A glimpse of the chicken moat (currently ducks only). Conditions are very
droughty, so we are doing the summer routine of carrying a bucket of water
from changing out the duck pools to each fruit tree -- labor intensive, but
the water does not pump well when full of duck "snortle" and we just can't
pass it up. In summer we run comfrey and weeds through a blender (not used
for food) and add the green slurry to a tubful of "duck water" to give the
trees and gardens a boost.

walmart increases wages: workers united are winning, and the struggle must continue
Workers in the US have won a significant victory in their struggle for
dignity and a living wage.
This week Walmart announced that within one year, all current Walmart
employees will be paid at least $10/hour, and that newly-hired workers will
start at $9.00/hour, with a real opportunity to earn $10/hour with six
months.
While still far below a basic living wage of $15/hour, the increase does
represent a recognizable improvement over the poverty-level $7.25/hour (the

India signs pact for fighter jet trainer's support systems

than 100 Hawk aircraft, India has entered into an agreement with European
Defence major BAE Systems for a comprehensive package of support systems
for the advanced jet trainers.
The five-year contract will cost India's military aviation giant Hindustan
Aeronautics Limited (HAL) 28.5 million dollar, which is producing the
aircraft under transfer of technology.
Under the pact, BAE will provide a comprehensive package comprising Ground

of our readers complain that we at Ripped-off Britons are always being
negative. It's not true! We once wrote a piece explaining why we should

This time we speak positively of Church of England bishops and their
letter for the General Election 2015.
Taking a sideways glance at data can be revealing. A
200,000 expected as airshow salutes the Anzac centenary
Panzer tanks, light horsemen, vintage warbirds and the latest military
hardware will combine in a pyrotechnic extravaganza to celebrate the Anzac
centenary and Australia’s aviation heroes in the Australian International
Airshow at Victoria’s Avalon Airport next week.
More than 200,000 people are expected to attend a packed six-day program

Britain at risk as our air defences are slashed

for five weeks after returning from the Middle East. It is the only one in
the RAF fleet, although two more are on order.
The news comes after a new Ministry of Defence report laid bear the size of
defence cuts for both the RAF and Royal Navy. In 2000, according to the
report, the UK
had 17 fighter squadrons and three maritime patrol aircraft. Today it has
just seven squadrons and no patrol aircraft to monitor Russian incursions
into UK airspace and coastal waters.

The BBC is using its news website this morning to advertise a couple of
upcoming radio plays. Two forgotten Harold Pinter screenplays are soon to
be broadcast on BBC Radio 4.
Among them is an adaptation of Joseph Conrad's *Victory.*

Malmstrom implements changes; MANG adjusts to C-130s

Falls are both facing changes with the shadow of continued budget
uncertainty under sequestration.
The 120th Airlift Wing of the Montana Air National Guard is continuing its
conversion to C-130s cargo-carrying aircraft from fighter jets and is
scheduled to reach full operational capacity in 2016.
Construction on a new hangar is underway and once that is finished, an
existing hangar will be renovated to accommodate the C-130, which are
significantly larger than the F-15s previously flown by the unit.

We’ve just given Malta a naval ship, instead of selling it

recently-decommissioned LÉ AOIFE to Malta to help the Mediterranean country
deal with the ongoing refugee crisis in the region.
The vessel was decommissioned from the Naval Service in Waterford in at the
end of last month, after 36 years in service.
The Department of Defence had initially planned to sell the ship, as it did
with the decommissioned LÉ Emer in 2013 (it reached €320,000 at an auction
in Cork).

Navy frigate HMAS Sydney to make final stop in Geelong ahead of decommissioning

homecoming this weekend as the HMAS Sydney sails into Geelong.
He and fellow Navy personnel will welcome members of the public aboard the
35-year-old guided-missile frigate in its final visit to port before it is
decommissioned later this year.
It will dock at Cunningham Pier from Friday to Tuesday, with an open day
planned for Sunday from 10am-4pm.

The official BBC view?
There's a very interesting article in the *Mail on Sunday *by the BBC's
official historian, Jean Seaton, concerning Mrs Thatcher's feelings towards
the BBC.
In Professor Seaton's account, Mrs Thatcher regarded the corporation as
"vulgar, leftist and treacherous", especially disliking its coverage of the
Falklands War and the IRA. (As did many others).
The curious thing about the article is that it paints Margaret Thatcher as
being wholly unreasonable and wrong in her criticisms of the BBC whilst
portraying the BBC as being almost entirely innocent of the charges against

Before saying why he thinks it's got so bad, he offers an overview of the
