Aussies Hoping for a Repeat of 1979 Truckie Blockade when the Government Backed Down to Truckers’ Demands
The stakes are much higher this time, but Aussies are hoping that a planned trucker blockade that is beginning Monday, August 30th, demanding "a guarantee from federal and state governments that there will be no mandated vaccine, and that no person, company or business can force anyone to get a vaccine to work, or go about their daily life in general,” will be as successful as the 1979 Truckie Blockade where truckers demanded an end to high road taxes. In the end, the government backed down and met all the truckers' demands. They became a legend in Australia for standing up agains... read more

Is the Kel-Tec P17 the Best Budget .22LR Pistol on the Market?
*Richard Douglas* *Guns, Americas* A fun little .22 that covers all the bases of a fun range toy. It’s super affordable, works like a charm, and feels pretty good in the hands. Gun owners are no strangers to Kel-Tec firearms. They have some wild weapons out there and not all of them are good. We know their arsenal is a mixed bag, but the P17 might be a winner. Read on to find out why. Like many other gun enthusiasts, I was extremely disappointed by Glock’s .22 outing. As a result, I’ve been on the lookout for something to fill that void. The Kel-Tec P17 popped on my radar as more... read more

"These words are no less true about indoor plumbing as they are about space travel."
*“The luxury of today is the necessity of tomorrow.... "[O]ne must first of all realise that the concept of luxury is an altogether relative one. Luxury consists in a way of living that stands in sharp contrast to that of the great mass of one’s contemporaries. The conception of luxury is, therefore, essentially historical. Many things that seem to us necessities today were once considered as luxuries. When, in the Middle Ages, an aristocratic Byzantine lady who had married a Venetian *doge * made use of a golden implement, which could be called the forerunner of the fork as ... read more
Iran’s Huge Submarine Fleet Can Seriously Hurt the U.S. Navy
*Mark Episkopos* *Iran, Middle East* Whereas Iran’s combined output of operational corvettes, frigates, and destroyers hardly exceeds 10, it currently fields a whopping 34 submarines. *Here's What You Need To Remember: *Iran’s submarine force is by far the most numerous and technically capable arm of its navy and slated to remain so for the foreseeable future given Tehran's geopolitical investment in the Gulf region. Tensions *continue to mount* between Washington and Iran, with every week bringing forth a new round of diplomatic threats and accusations. Most recently, Revolutio... read more
This North Korean Submarine Almost Sparked World War III from the Grave
*Sebastien Roblin* *Submarine, Asia* Before departing, the crew of the submarine had sworn an oath not to return home without completing their mission: to spy on the South Korean military bases around the area of Gangneung, ninety miles south of the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) separating the two countries. *Here's What You Need to Know*: The incident at Gangneung demonstrated how deeply the North Korean regime has indoctrinated its troops, to the point that they would commit murder and suicide rather than face capture. Indeed, they likely did not expect mercy from their own governme... read more
There's a Reason the Gotland-Class Submarines Are the Pride of the Swedish Navy
*Caleb Larson* *Submarines, * Sweden’s silent submarines are getting even quieter. *Here's What You Need to Know*: In the mid-2000s, the U.S. Navy leased the HMS Gotland for one year, in order to improve the Navy’s anti-submarine warfare. The Navy chose the *Gotland* due to its advanced AIP technology, which was leveraged to improve American anti-submarine techniques. The Gotland-class of submarines are the pride of the Swedish Navy. They’re really quiet—and are getting even quieter. *Gotland-class* The Gotland-class has a number of features that are optimized for a minimal aco... read more
Russia’s Anchar-Class Submarine Unbelievably Fast—And Earsplittingly Loud
*Sebastien Roblin* *Submarines, * The noise was almost intolerable for the crew. *Here's What You Need to Remember: *Sometimes speed is desirable simply to get a submarine where it needs to be to engage a fast-moving enemy. Such was the thinking behind the Soviet’s Project 661 submarine* Anchar* that was conceived in 1959: a speedy submarine that could race forth to intercept American carrier task forces cruising at 33 knots, blast them with long-range cruise missiles fired from underwater, and then get the hell out of Dodge. Speed has often held a mixed appeal in submarine war... read more

“You Can’t Do It Just Because of Money:”40,000 Acre Farm Silences the Doubters By Going Organic
The world of organic farming is a complicated one in large part because many of the traditional ways have been lost. While traditional soil-focused natural farming has been the way the world has fed itself for generations, the post-World War II era of pesticides and GMOs has led to an era of farming where many are afraid to take risks. That gap has been filled by companies like Monsanto and Bayer, who have taken things way too far by polluting the soil, killing bees and butterflies en masse, and even changing the very genetic structure of our food with new genetically engineered... read more

"A Look to the Heavens"
"Have you ever seen the Pleiades star cluster? Even if you have, you probably have never seen it as large and clear as this. Perhaps the most famous star cluster on the sky, the bright stars of the Pleiades can be seen without binoculars from even the depths of a light-polluted city. With a long exposure from a dark location, though, the dust cloud surrounding the Pleiades star cluster becomes very evident. The featured exposure covers a sky area several times the size of the full moon. Also known as the Seven Sisters and M45, the Pleiades lies about 400 light years away toward the c... read more
"At Last..."
“At last, the answer why. The lesson that had been so hard to find, so difficult to learn, came quick and clear and simple. The reason for problems is to overcome them. Why, that’s the very nature of man, I thought, to press past limits, to prove his freedom. It isn’t the challenge that faces us, that determines who we are and what we are becoming, but the way we meet the challenge, whether we toss a match at the wreck or work our way through it, step by step, to freedom.” - Richard Bach, “Nothing by Chance” read more

Another Death in the Family
Some absences are just more painful than others. I've been MIA these past 72 hours or more and the reason is simple. There's been another death in the family. I'd already lost my father to COVID-19 and this time, Mrs. JP lost her older sister. We don't think it was COVID-related but at this point, it doesn't matter much. It was still abrupt and untimely. Her sister Susan should have had many more good years ahead of her but they were cruelly denied her. This is the second nuclear family member that Barb's lost since moving up here in 2009. Some of you who've stuck a... read more
