A ‘duty of candour’ must extend to the policing of protests
Last week’s condemnation of proposed government restrictions on protests in the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill as “oppressive and wrong” by the Joint Committee on Human Rights (JCHR) has somewhat overshadowed its call for greater openness and transparency over the way the police impose restrictions on protests. read more

*James Holmes* *Iran, Middle East* Answer: just maybe, if it pulls off the right moves. *Here's What You Need To Remember: *Whether the Iranian military could defeat U.S. or allied task forces is an open question. It is beyond question that Tehran can impose heavy opportunity costs on Washington. It’s already doing so. That chronic pain gnawing at officialdom’s guts is bipartisan. Why Republicans Really Hate the Biden Defense Budget
*Kris Osborn* *Defense Budget, Americas* Republicans are worried that an inadequate budget might send a demoralizing message to troops. There is a long way to go before any proposed defense budget becomes law, given that a host of congressional committees need to “mark up” the budget, analyze programs, propose alternatives and then ultimately reconcile competing views in a collaborative “conference” process. There have, over the years, been many instances wherein programs are massively cut by certain committees only to then have the funds restored later in the deliberative pr... read more

Yes, employees can be terminated for refusing to vaccinate, unless they fall within a legal exception. My father discovered it in March: Imunor is a Covid miracle drug
Only a small fraction of mankind has belonged to the Covid risk groups. My father (*March 1948) was surely among them, however. His immunity system has a major defect (a whole line of white blood cells or something else is completely absent, probably the whole transfer factor) and he has seriously struggled with flus many times in his life. My dad contracted Covid-19 during the most likely recent week (the latest peak week), on March 7th, almost certainly from a dude who was 25. Two days later, before any symptoms, he got his first Covid jab (which probably didn't hurt), and symptom... read more

Ten journals denied 2020 Impact Factors because of excessive self-citation or “citation stacking”
Clarivate, the company behind the Impact Factor, a closely watched — and controversial — metric, is calling out more than 20 journals for unusual citation patterns. The 21 journals — 10 of which were suppressed, meaning they will not receive an Impact Factor in 2020, and 11 of which received an expression of concern — … Continue reading Ten journals denied 2020 Impact Factors because of excessive self-citation or “citation stacking” read more
Kamala Harris Identifies a Primary Root Cause of Illegal Immigration to the USA and Fertilizes the Root
Kamala Harris has made a big deal of her task to identify and address the root causes of illegal immigration into the USA. She has identified a primary root cause: the illegal immigrants leave their home countries because they are very corrupt and gang violence is unbearable. The violent gangs make huge sums of money selling drugs, dealing in sex trafficing, selling contraband arms, and guiding illegal aliens into the USA. They infiltrate the USA with their gang members and extract post-immigration services from the illegal aliens they shepard into the USA as payment for their s... read more

USING HYPERTHERMIA FOR TREATING CANCER
Hyperthermia is a less-known but effective treatment against stubborn cancer tumors. It essentially replicates a localized, regional, or whole-body fever to kill cancer cells. Let us delve deeper into what this cancer treatment is all... The post USING HYPERTHERMIA FOR TREATING CANCER appeared first on Healing Oracle. read more
J-10 Fighter: This Chinese Jet Should Not Be Underestimated
*Charlie Gao* *Technology, Asia* China's J-10 is aging, but still holds up well. *Here is What You Need to Remember: *While the constant redesign of the J-10’s intake and fuselage belies the fact that at the core the aerodynamic design is less mature, these drawbacks would not prove to be as much of a problem if the aircraft remains at range and slings missiles. In the 1990s, China introduced its answer to the MiG-29 and F-16. The J-10 was a light single-seat multirole aircraft meant to replace older J-7 and J-8 aircraft as the bulk of forces a possible adversary would meet. Wh... read more
Want to Be a Good Strategist? Read Some Fiction
*James Holmes* *War Studies, Global* There is useful insight to be drawn from fictional scenarios. *Here's What You Need To Remember:* Fiction cannot predict the future any more than social science can. Setting intellectual ferment in motion is the point. Sometimes academics say the darndest things. To wit: I recently got in an exchange with a colleague about the upsides and downsides of applying fiction as a catalyst for strategic thought. My interlocutor dismissed the idea out of hand, insisting this represents an unserious endeavor for any serious scholar or think tank analys... read more

This Weird Tank Was Part of an Even Weirder Soviet Experiment
*Charlie Gao* *Security, Europe* The IT-1 Dragon was another Cold War dead-end. *Here's What You Need to Know*: Only 220 IT-1s were manufactured during its serial production run, and the vehicles were withdrawn from service between 1972 and 1973. The IT-1 Dragon is an interesting dead end in the history of Soviet tank development. Developed at a time where the capabilities and limitations of anti-tank Guided Missiles (ATGMs) had not yet fully been fleshed out, the IT-1 was a tank designed to use ATGMs as its primary weapon. While relatively unsuccessful in service, the developm... read more
There Is Still No Strategic Theory about Using Air Power—and Thats a Problem
*James Holmes* *U.S. Military, United States* Will the Corbett of air power please step forward? *Here's What You Need To Remember: * century into the air age, few would dispute the importance of aviation to military operations. And yet at the Naval War College our main text on air power remains the Italian general Giulio Douhet’s *Command of the Air*. Students and practitioners of air power desperately need a theorist with the stature of a Carl von Clausewitz, Julian S. Corbett, or Mao Zedong—masters of ground, sea, and irregular warfare, respectively. Aviators need a common vo... read more
Doubt and Failure Are the Key to Success in Military Innovation
*James Holmes* *U.S. Military, Americas* Failure is ultimately enlightening. *Here's What You Need to Know*: It's time to make dreaming up offbeat ideas fun and rewarding again. Strategy is about forming good habits, and so is innovation. If we want our services to innovate as a matter of course, we need to foster an institutional culture that makes doubt and failure fun. Innovation lies downstream of organizational culture. Shape how people view the strategic environment and our profession, as culture does, and you shape debates about strategy, operations, and force design. If ... read more
Plane Shot Down? The GAU-5A Says "Don't Worry"
*Charlie Gao* *Security, Americas* The compact rifle is the Air Force's new weapon for pilots who make unexpected landings. *Here’s What You Need to Remember: *One of the reasons the GAU-5A was chosen was for its compactness. While most pilots like to think of themselves as fairly detached from the brutality of warfare on the ground, they all face the very real possibility of being shot down and forced to defend themselves on the ground. For most of the twentieth century, shot-down pilots could be expected to be captured and interned as prisoners of war, so they were generally... read more
