AdS/CFT as the swampland/bootstrap duality

Luboš Motl at The Reference Frame - 17 hours ago
Last June, I discussed machine learning approaches to the search for realistic vacua. Computers may do a lot of work and lots of assumptions that some tasks may be "impossibly hard" may be shown incorrect with some help of computers that think and look for patterns. Today, a new paper was published on that issue, Deep learning in the heterotic orbifold landscape. Mütter, Parr, and Vaudrevange use "autoencoder neural networks" as their brain supplements. *The basic idea of the bootstrap program in physics.* But I want to mention another preprint, Putting the Boot into the Swampla... more »

California fires

arclein at Terra Forming Terra - 21 hours ago
This pretty well spells out that California chose to not spend on fire prevention. That it was handled at the State level is concerning as well. Dry land fire maintenance needs to be managed locally. In fact property taxes need to reflect real fire risk, just as we do in flood zones by now allowing building in the first place. Trying to dump all the costs up to the federal level is nonsensical and it is obviously killing people. It does not address the big problem and that is building there in the first place. I recall visiting a chap down in Denver who had a home perched on to... more »

What we discover here once again is that you cannot make cheese without using casein. Yet they lie about it all and call the stuff vegan. There is no such thing. Or if there is, it is obscure and not exactly on your local grocery shelf. I do think that Vegan is a fad that mostly misses the science involved. A high vegetable diet is known to be beneficial but not exclusively so. Our digestive system has three groups of intestinal flora one of which deals with meats. Our real problem is eating them to excess which is much harder with grains and vegetable. This debate will o... more »

Much of this is happening through the United Nations. For instance, the notion that carbon dioxide is pollution is a brilliant scam —if you want a totalitarian world government that can control every aspect of everyone's life.

New Studies Reveal Neurological Damage from Fluoridated Water – Dangers Hid from the Public

AdminM at Health Impact News - 1 day ago
New studies published this year revealed neurological damage as well as skeletal and tooth issues among those who consume fluoridated water. They’re added to several previous studies that have made those same connections. The studies reveal even expectant mothers who drink fluoridated water adversely affect their newborns’ nervous systems. Fluorides go through the placenta with ease. Feeding newborns with formulas containing fluoride or mixed in fluoridated water exacerbate the damage. Yet there are many who support water fluoridation despite the evidence, especially within the den...more »

Deep State Plot: Billy Idol Just Became a US Citizen. Do You Know What This Means?

Diogenes Sarcastica™ at Diogenes' Middle Finger - 1 day ago
We Will Now Be Inundated With Holiday Music From Hell: Billy Idol sings ‘White Christmas’ Doc Marten meets Dean Martin in Billy Idol’s plodding version of 'White Christmas,' which has all the appeal of a Christmas stocking full of steaming reindeer crap. The musicians backing him sound like a German wedding band after an afternoon of knocking back steins of Hefeweizen at the local beer garden. It don’t mean a thing if ain't got that swing, and these cats couldn't swing if they were hanging from a lamp post in a hurricane. It is enough to make Santa slit his wrists with a rusty razor... more »

Flanders on Jewish anti-Communism

Social-Nationalist Anti-Nazi at Social-Nationalist Anti-Nazi - 1 day ago
*by Flanders* JEWISH “ANTI-COMMUNISM” By George Pinckney – 1956 --- Note from Flanders Americans have had difficulty in recognizing communists who pretend to be anti-communist, while they are at the same time advancing communism. Americans had been taught that communism was only an ideology. Communism went deeper than ideology. Communism went to blood. Many jews have actively taken part in a campaign to hide from the American people the major role that jewry has played in communism. That campaign has included portraying communism as being a "plain Jane" generic communism, and p... more »

"What Is Social Darwinism?"

noreply@blogger.com (Coyote Prime) at Running 'Cause I Can't Fly - 1 day ago
“Social Darwinism is a belief, popular in the late Victorian era in England, America, and elsewhere, which states that the strongest or fittest should survive and flourish in society, while the weak and unfit should be allowed to die. The theory was chiefly expounded by Herbert Spencer, whose ethical philosophies always held an elitist view and received a boost from the application of Darwinian ideas such as adaptation and natural selection. Herbert Spencer, the father of Social Darwinism as an ethical theory, was thinking in terms of elitist, "might makes right" sorts of views long... more »

"I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It's when you know you're licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do." ~ Harper Lee, "To Kill a Mockingbird" ○ Freely download "To Kill a Mockingbird", by Harper Lee, here: - http://cleveracademy.vn/

"A Message From The Ministry Of Homeland Security, And H.L. Mencken"

"Liberty and democracy are eternal enemies, and every one knows it who has ever given any sober reflection to the matter. A democratic state may profess to venerate the name, and even pass laws making it officially sacred, but it simply cannot tolerate the thing. In order to keep any coherence in the governmental process, to prevent the wildest anarchy in thought and act, the government must put limits upon the free play of opinion. In part, it can reach that end by mere propaganda, by the bald force of its authority - that is, by making certain doctrines officially infamous. But i... more »

Machine Learning For Jet Physics: New, Or Just Cool, Ideas

Tommaso Dorigo at Science 2.0 - Physical Sciences - 1 day ago
As I mentioned in yesterday's post, there is a workshop going on this week at Fermilab, where 110 attendees - mostly particle physicists, but some computer scientists are also present - discuss how to push for more effective use of machine learning tools in the extraction of information on particle collisions. Also one goal is to understand what new ideas from the world of machine learning could find ideal applications in the typical use cases of research in fundamental physics. Here I wish to mention a few interesting things that I heard at the workshop so far, in random order. I ... more »
