Trump calls for more drilling & more spilling
Last week, the Trump administration released a plan to open up nearly all U.S. water to oil and gas - Two policies make drilling in water an extra bad idea. One is the GW Bush / Cheney rebate of depletion tax on deepwater drilling deposits - something technology cannot make without risk, and not just because of gas crystals exploding in the bore. Potential for pressure differential is equal to weight of water in the column. Another is the insane use of Corexit 9500 - or any dispersant - on crude leakage, making it permanently unstable and toxic to rotifers
at the base of the marine food chain at the rate of 52x toxicity of crude alone. Plus it kills microbes which would normally digest crude. This goes from being a poor choice to a ruinous protocol.
