Shouldn't Senators Who Took Big Contributions From Trump Nominees Recuse Themselves From Confirmation Hearings?
*Oh, look who led us astray... again* California Senator Kamala Harris could set a good example for Republican senators-- maybe even shame them-- by recusing herself from voting on Trump's Treasury Secretary nominee, Steven Mnuchin. Mnuchin, who 2016 saw giving $10,000 pops to a very specific group of state Republican parties-- Mississippi, West Virginia, Louisiana, Tennessee, Virginia, South Carolina and Arkansas-- as well as over $300,000 to the RNC, only donated directly to one U.S, Senate candidate, corporate Democrat Kamala Harris ($2,000 on February 10, 2016). On Thomas Paine's Common Sense
Thomas Paine published his famous pamphlet *Common Sense* on January 9, 1776. In context of the 18th century, *Common Sense* was the superb articulation of liberty oriented ideas of the Age of Enlightenment. In just 48-pages, Paine made a “commonsensical” political argument for liberty; he proposed that people have the right to choose their own government, and to revolt against it. The pamphlet was widely read and galvanized support for armed rebellion against the monarchy. Here’s a quote from the pamphlet: “*O ye that love mankind! Ye that dare oppose, not only the tyranny, but ... more »
The U.S. Intelligence Community Is Predicting More 'Donald Trumps' Coming To Power Around The World
MIKE SEGAR / REUTERS *Kimberley Dozier, Daily Beast*: *U.S. Spies See a World of Trumps Ahead* The popular rage that propelled Donald Trump to the White House is only getting started, American intelligence analysts say. Rising need, fewer resources, fewer jobs—and more campaigns like Donald Trump’s. That’s the world ahead, according to America’s intelligence agencies. Analysts from U.S. spy services predict a darker world to come over the next five years, with rising populations, falling incomes, and ever more technology to spread anger at the speed of a tweet—all trends that help... more »
KMTers still distancing themselves from the KMT
Newly opened office of a KMT politician in Fengyuan. But... where is the familiar KMT logo? Yup. Buried at the bottom of the sign. GREENWALD: THE EXTREMELY EVIL DEEP STATE IS ALL-POWERFUL AND, SIMULTANEOUSLY, INCOMPETENT
Glenn Greenwald warns us that the greatest force for evil on the planet has been unleashed, thanks to the folly of the mainstream media and liberals: IN JANUARY, 1961, Dwight Eisenhower delivered his farewell address after serving two terms as U.S. president; the five-star general chose to warn Americans of this specific threat to democracy: “In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. Did Ludwig von Mises create today's cronyism?

The Perverse Ingenuity, and Routine Lawlessness, of Law Enforcers
Enforcers of drug prohibition can be perversely ingenious in devising methods to subvert due process guarantees. One tactic widely employed by police officers looking for a way to circumvent the Fourth Amendment is to intimidate a subject into giving the officers permission to invade the rights of others – such as residents of an apartment building, or passengers in an automobile. That ruse has been rebuffed in two recent state Supreme Court rulings. The Final Wave of Souls is Here & It's Going to Change Everything
I do find conforming evidence to support an ongoing soul based advent taking place. It is both possible and also plausible as our global culture matures over the next thirty or so years. This happens to be a pretty spooky concept to get your mind around. For example, look at the massive compression brought on by the Second world War. A whole wave of souls got the opportunity to jump back in and to work shoulder to shoulder to accelerate modernity. Was that what it really was all about? How about Israel emerging just after millions died as per prophetic expectations? You se... more »

*Reuters:* *U.S. says might not shoot down North Korean ICBM, eying intel* The U.S. military might monitor a North Korean intercontinental ballistic missile test and gather intelligence rather than destroy it, as long as the launch did not pose a threat, Defense Secretary Ash Carter said on Tuesday. BBC iPlayer will aim to be 'number one' online TV service per BBC News
Leaving aside why the BBC should aim to be the world's number one online TV service, there was one key declaration of intent in this BBC report http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-38579168 '... the BBC will put a stronger emphasis on "slow news" - meaning more in-depth analysis of topics and issues to run alongside the "fast" breaking news and day to day events.' So that's even more propaganda for the BBC's pet causes and against those with whom the BBC takes issue.

3 Realities You Aren't Being Told About Afghanistan
*January 11, 2017* (Ulson Gunnar - NEO) - US commander of US Forces Afghanistan (USFOR-A) General John Nicholson's December 2016 briefing was paradoxical and perhaps indicative of the bankrupted foreign policy that defines America's occupation in Afghanistan. The US Department of Defense published General Nicholson's full briefing titled, "Department of Defense Press Briefing by General Nicholson in the Pentagon Briefing Room." In it, three truths in particular emerged. *1. "Stronger Afghan Military" Still Requires Years More of US Hand-Holding* The briefing paradoxically claimed t... more »

Four key times presidential nominees failed to gain Senate confirmation
Sarah Snyder, Associate Professor, American University School of International Service at Politics + Society – The Conversation - 1 day ago
Republicans are rushing to begin confirmation hearings for Cabinet appointments even before the FBI has finished its background checks. For President-elect Donald Trump’s opponents, this makes uncovering flaws in his nominees all the more challenging. As a scholar of U.S. history, I have studied the many cases in which presidential nominees, particularly judges, have failed to gain Senate confirmation. However, according to the Senate Historical Office, there were four cases since 1970 in which a Senate controlled by the president’s party did not confirm the president’s nominees. ... more »

Self-Proclaimed Iran Expert Continues to Get Iran Election Predictions Wrong
Meir Javedanfar (Image: RT) There's an apocryphal saying, sometimes attributed to Mark Twain, that goes, "It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. How Foreign Leaders-- Like, Say China-- Think They Can Use Trump's Greed and Stupidity To Take Advantage Of America
I'm pretty certain Elizabeth Warren's bill to force Trump to avoid conflicts of interest isn't going anywhere. The bill would force Trump (and Pence)-- and their spouses and dependent children-- to divest any financial assets that pose a conflict of interest and place the money into a blind trust. If it were to pass and be signed into law, it would make Trump immediately impeachable, defining his stance on his conflicts as a "high crime or misdemeanor." The Roll-on, Roll-off (RoRo) boat system of transporting trucks, buses, and cars from one island to another is among the best inventions for archipelagic countries like the Philippines. Market failure vs. Government failure, Part 6
An article today in BWorld says, *"A market failure, in the parlance of economics, means a situation in which free markets produce wasteful outcomes."* The above statement is wrong on 2 counts: (1) Market failure is literal, demand is there but supply is low or zero, or vice versa. Nature is not naturally benevolent. We have to work to make it so, for us. The point of human production – the reason we get up in the morning and go to work, if we can – is to make our lives better. So when you see dozens killed by Europe's coldest weather in years you may realise that cold weather kills – kills vastly more than warmer weather does – and that human production that makes the human environment warmer may not be a totally bad thing.
