Rum And The Royal Navy
*Gizmodo:* *A Beginner's Guide to Navy-Strength Rum* *The Royal Navy's successful invasion of Jamaica in 1655 had a lot of terribly negative outcomes. The commanders ended up in the Tower of London. Many of the English sailors fell sick or starved. A lot of Spanish settlers died. But there was one undeniably positive outcome: rum.* *After that fated invasion, the Royal Navy started giving its sailors daily rations of domestically produced rum instead of the French brandy they'd been receiving. ("Domestically produced" meaning produced on the captured island of Jamaica, of course.)... more »

Do Electoral Considerations Sometimes Trump Party Ideology? They Sure Did In Yesterday's Paid Sick Leave Vote
Johnson found something else to stick to his guns over The Senate has been debating the 2016 budget for the last few days. Actually, what they've been doing is voting on amendments. Yesterday, for example, the rejected Bernie Sanders' amendment that would have raised the minimum wage. It failed 48-52, every single Democrat voting YES and all but two Republicans-- Susan Collins (ME) and Rob Portman (OH)-- voting NO. I guess Republicans figure their voters don't care about the minimum wage. Almost all the Democratic-sponsored amendments were defeated. Almost. Patty Murray introduced on...more »

In his Kodachrome documentary, Adam Dew interviews a man (and since his name is well known, I see no point in repeating it here) who was in Roswell in 1947 who said that the body in the slides resembled that he had seen in Roswell. Dew doesn’t give the name (though we all know it now) and said that he had been a lieutenant. The Yearbook produced by Walter Haut in 1947 has a picture of the man and shows that he was only a PFC, a low-ranking enlisted man. Here’s what the records tell us. This is the way he began: NORDLAND (3/25/15): *Islamic State militants in Iraq on Tuesday publicly stoned a man and woman to death on charges of adultery,* parading the victims in a public square in the northern city of Mosul, according to witnesses and an Iraqi military official. *Later... more »

Why Do Washington-London-Brussells Hate RT?
Media wars have reached a whole new level. Secretary of State John Kerry, members of the EU and NATO all have singled out the television station - RT - as some kind of security threat. They are trying to Putin-ize the network and make the global public afraid to listen to the what they have to say. On my way to the store this morning in the car I was listening to right-wing talk radio shock-jock Glenn Beck. He was lauding the new 'film' by Fox News screamer Bill O'Reilly called "Killing Jesus". Seems a real disconnect that mean-spirited O'Reilly is channeling Jesus - but then ag... more »

Memphis Waking Up to Corporate Welfare Takeover of Schools
Thanks to Memphis Police Association president, Mike Williams, for giving the teachers of South Side Middle School an opportunity last evening on "Wake Up Memphis" to share with the public some information related to the attempted shutdown of South South Middle School to benefit the incompetent misleaders of the Achievement School District. Friday Beavers - They're Back! What'd you call me?
Beavers are back from their winter hiatus. They don't seem too happy since it was such a warm winter and the world didn't get any better since. Think of all the derogatory names there are. You could fill a volume with them all. And it's not just in the last 50 years or so that they have been used. Take paddy wagon for example. It got it's name by police when the Irish left Ireland and flooded New York. Paddy referring to Patrick an Irish name. And let's face facts just about every country has their digs into somebody else. Muzzie and Vic are two slang and hateful terms in the UK. ... more »

Rumble in jungle
Bias? I suppose we ought to mention the rumble in the jungle. I disagree with whoever it was that declared Paxo the winner. I thought he was hopeless. The aggressive approach that’s suppose to ruffle feathers and stimulate passion only creates defensiveness and a kind of special politician’s brand of inhibition. Instead of drawing out potential, it kills it off. Hell yes. So after all that evasiveness and defensiveness, we’re none the wiser. Kay Burley got a thorough pasting on the interweb. What today’s college activism is all about; And the revolt against the empire
Jon Rappoport *“Major pysops often contain the element of diversion. That is, the agents and propagandists are taking attention away from something they want to fall down the memory hole. This is particularly true when the thing-to-be forgotten was once a huge threat to the establishment. That thing must fade into oblivion. It must never surface again. So the people who could make it surface again are led into multiple distractions: substitutes for the real thing.”*(The Underground, Jon Rappoport) In the 1960s, there was a fearful and terrible thing called college activism. Madness Coming To Gold Market: “There Are Thirty to Fifty Owners For Each Ounce of Gold That’s Out There”
Mac Slavo Though the price of gold has seen a significant drop over the last two years from its all*-*time highs of about $1900 per ounce, many experts and analysts believe that Western central banks and their colleagues at major financial institutions have been manipulating the price. The rampant manipulation is believed to stem, in part, from the formerly Rothschild-owned London Gold Fix, an organization made up of five large banks that make a daily determination of what the price of gold should be. It is this unilateral control by Western banks that recently prompted the Chine... more »

'Type 093T' sub design breaks cover

Oligarchs, biofuel, and conflicts of interest
I am not among those who would believe that rich people shouldn't be allowed to do politics. In fact, they may even do some of these activities at the same time. But I am shocked by many people's selective inability to see the risks (and actual wrongdoings), especially in the case when the politicians are very rich entrepreneurs. Non-invasive Alzheimer's Treatment Restores Memory Using Ultrasound
[image: Researchers at the University of Queensland have claimed an effective new, non-invasive me...] Let us get this right. This is a huge breakthrough and extraordinarily welcome. It is completely creditable that ultrasound will disturb plaque. This will naturally lead to signalling that triggers the activity of the appropriate cells to clean up the plaque itself. In fact this methodology needs to be applied generally to wound healing in order to initially stimulate any and all debris. I suspect what has happened is that bilogical debris will simply accum...more »
McDonald's in Global Profit Free Fall
It is likely rather premature to read much into this sudden aberration. Hopefully it is not a book keeping maneuver. Yet it does make one thing crystal clear. The drum beat of food activism is changing consumer preferences however slowly and that ultimately means demanding true attention to food quality and real disclosure. All that means that industrial food loses market share as this change settles in. The movement itself is pervasive and ultimately boils down to a demand that growers master organic methods. I still expect this to demand decades of re-education, yet mjomen... more »
How Much Do We Really Know About the Universe?
Actually my own work has produced an effective theory of everything, although much of it is not yet fleshed out. That takes a massive investment in man hours to say nothing of all our available computer power. My 2010 paper critically expands the foundations of mathematics and importantly it provides order greater than two metrics all allowing both a foundational concept for physics as well as the natural protocol for tackling the n body problem as has never existed. As expected such a theory develops its own complexities all of which are profoundly interesting but also cap... more »

Why Ukraine Is Divided
*Amanda Taub, VOX*:* The real roots of the war in eastern Ukraine* *We tend to talk about the conflict in eastern Ukraine as a tale of Russian aggression. That's not inaccurate — but it isn't the full story, either.* *It's true Russia took advantage of Ukraine's weakness after massive protests forced former President Viktor Yanukovych out of office a year ago, first by invading and occupying Crimea, and then by backing a violent separatist movement in eastern Ukraine. Israel Keeps Exposing That They Are Not Our Friend, And The U.S. Congress Keeps Exposing That They Work For Israel
First it started with the Republicans violating The Logan Act by asking Netanyahu to speak in front of congress without consulting the president. The only heroes during that were the Democratic Black Caucus who banned attending it. Don't forget what Netanyahu's speech was about: dragging us into another war for Israel with U.S. taxpayer money. When it comes to U.S. taxpayer money for wars for Israel, there's no talk about "AUSTERITY", "FISCAL CLIFF", or the "DEFICIT". US-Saudi Blitz in Yemen: Naked Aggression, Absolute Desperation
*March 27, 2015* (Tony Cartalucci - NEO) - The "proxy war" model the US has been employing throughout the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and even in parts of Asia appears to have failed yet again, this time in the Persian Gulf state of Yemen. Overcoming the US-Saudi backed regime in Yemen, and a coalition of sectarian extremists including Al Qaeda and its rebrand, the "Islamic State," pro-Iranian Yemeni Houthi militias have turned the tide against American "soft power" and has necessitated a more direct military intervention. While US military forces themselves are not involved alle... more »
