AEC 4: Malaysia's MITI Presentation
Two days ago, South East Asia Network for Development (SEANET) and the
ASEAN People's Forum (APF) held a forum about the ASEAN Economic Community
in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. SEANET is a new regional free market think tank
based in Kuala Lumpur, and one of the projects of IDEAS. This is one of two
papers presented.
Ours is a huge region -- in population, GDP size, trade, investments and
tourism. Even the 28-nations European Union would be envious of its
population size and low or young average age.
It is fascinating how a region with a huge discrepancy in wealth among
members can ... more »

A Necessary Correction in the Oil Industry

to spend more on economic activities other than petrol and other
oil-related expenses. Historically, every time the oil price soared — such

Climate Change, the "Free Market" & the California Drought
*by Gaius Publius*
The current multi-year California drought is not on most people's radar
yet, but it's about to be. The video above, from KQED, is an excellent look
at the scope of the problem. If you have just a little time, watch the
first two minutes (I've set up the player to stop at that point, I hope).
As you do, you may want to pause and study three sets of images — the
before-and-after shots of Folsom Reservior (0:42), Lake Oroville (0:49),
and the snowpack regions from which reservoirs are filled (0:57). Here's
another image of the drought problem:

Please note that I was not saying the primary reason for revolution is to

The Collapsing American Empire at Work
If you are an English speaker it is best to turn the sound off and read the
subtitles. With two different voices going on it can get a bit
distracting.
But I think this is a very interesting interview that helps us again see
the bigger picture of US-NATO intentions in eastern Europe.
This German radio interview is with former German spy Rainer Wolfgang Rupp
also known under codenames Mosel and Topaz. He talks about American
strategy for development of a new version of NATO (even further under US-UK
control) and the role of Germany in it.

I'd feel sorry for Ed Miliband but he really does deserve every piss-take

And as for Ed Balls sitting next to him with that idiotic pretend shocked
expression on his face, how he has the nerve to look at himself in the
mirror after all that he's done to the UK economy, I just don't know.
When George Osborne can take the piss out of a Labour politician that

Destruction Of Historic Sites In Iraq Hides Looting Campaign By Islamic State
Since the Islamic State (IS) seized Mosul in June 2014 it has been
destroying historic sites throughout the area. In the summer of 2014 for

real purpose, which is to spread its propaganda while profiting in the

My Spring Break Reading
This week is spring break at Harvard, so I have time to catch up on some
pleasure reading. First up is a recent recommendation by a blog reader: The
Righteous Mind: Why Good People Are Divided by Politics and Religion by
Jonathan Haidt.
The book is a few years old, but I had not heard of it. It gives readers a
lens into the field of moral psychology, together with dashes of
philosophy, anthropology, behavioral genetics, political science, and even
some behavioral economics.
It is a great read. Highly recommended.
