If you don't know about the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), it's high time that you learn and pass on your knowledge to others. World peace, an end to poverty, and less garbage
Day after Christmas at Las Penitas beach Were it up to me to pick a project for Central America, it might be garbage. In countries with per-capita GDPs somewhere around $4,000, sub-standard education systems and virtually zero social services, I admit that garbage is not the most pressing problem. But it's the kind of project that is wide open to all ages and classes, in urban and rural areas alike. It provides instant gratification, and possibly economic stimulus as well if you pay attention to which types of garbage have value and setting up side projects along the way. ... more »

In Nunavut civil matters cross examination may occur before affidavits served
Marion v KIA 2015 NUCJ 6: 1. The plaintiff urges the Court to impose a general rule that all affidavits must be filed prior to cross-examinations and seeks to place the onus on the party seeking to vary from this process to make a case pursuant to Rule 381(6). In my view this is not the correct approach. In my view the correct approach is to maintain the general right to cross-examine and to impose terms or conditions only if necessary.

Deflategate: a view from Central Europe
Between 1972 and 1974, America was excited about Watergate. Similarly, the most important event that decides about the future of the United States in 2015 is the so-called Deflategate. In fact, Bill Nye the Science Guy has changed his occupation and began to give lectures about Deflategate rather than climate change, his previous favorite scandal that is – as he equally pointed out – approximately equally fatal as Deflategate. During a semifinal game in a competition ("NFL") revolving around an esoteric sport named "football" although it is in no way "football" in the conventional... more »

SELMA ON OUR MINDS: In conclusion, three final points!

The Origins Of Mankind and Evolution’s ‘Missing Link’
[image: Image Source] This is a really good work up of the ground first opened by Sitzchen thirty years ago. My pleasent surprise is that the crustal shift was the declared cause for Noah's Flood by his quoted informants. That bit of data was there all along and i had to piece it together from the data instead. At least we all ended up in the same place. There is excellent reason to think that we were engineered into existence from long established lineages some 200,000 years ago. There is additional reason to think we were additionally improved prior to resettlement after th... more »
Monsanto Earnings Fall 34% As Farmers Reject GMO Crops
So far this is at best a blip. Blow back has hardly begun and will not take off until every industrial farmer is rethinking his protocols. It is never that easy and the type of changes needed are radical and neither learned overnight nor implemented that way. More likely expect to see test fields operated for several years allowing equipment acquisition and modification. It is only then that a full phase in can safely be undertaken. Yet i do think this is taking place with young farmers in particular who have likely buried fathers from cancer. Yet the information is all ou... more »
Islam's 'Protestant Reformation'
This reminds us of something important. The protestant reformation was driven by a direct, even naive, reading of the scriptures of Christianity that then confronted a tradition of compromise. This led to fanaticism and disasterous results. Centuries of maturation has ended all that but the lesson remains. Islam is doing the exact same thing but with a text that is actually promoting the worse instincts of humanity. Thus we have this modern flare up of Islamic violence that promises to be beyond compromise. At least this provides us a clear historical analogy that works to fu... more »
What Science Is Telling Us About The Heart’s Intuitive Intelligence
The take home we are heading for is that the heart likely centers the second center of information processing in our abdomen. That it drives a EM field out to seven feet is itself a powerful indicator and makes sense out of a lot of folk lore we have all imbibed. We are often reminded that first assumptions however hoary with age and general acceptance are not necessarily correct. Here we go again. The Heart is a powerful engine generating a strong field that can be felt at significant distance. Information is also embedded and we do not know just what. This also leads to ... more »

What caused the concrete to fuse around the floor studs at Ground Zero?
Evidence of temperatures hot enough to melt concrete and steel are everywhere you look in this video footage, yet there also places where you would expect maximum damage, that look like nothing happened. The Coca Cola truck sitting by the skeleton of Tower 2 looks normal, while in other places there are cars and trucks with melted engine blocks and missing glass that are blocks away from the ruins of the buildings. This appears to be the end part of a floor truss with part of the floor pan and the end of the zig zag bar that re-enforces it. There was 4 inches of concrete poured o... more »

What is Noah thinking? Part 2
Noah Smith has replied to my recent post criticizing his use of median household income to measure middle class living standards. He raises some interesting questions, but some of them still leave me scratching my head. Smith writes: I don't understand the idea that "households have had to" compensate for lower weekly wages (also the choice of weekly over hourly wages continues to mystify me, since long workweeks suck, but OK). Of course, no one literally had to compensate for the fact that their wages were falling, but people do prefer to maintain (if not improve!) their current l... more »
Greece may be first head-on challenge to Eurozone austerity

Did you hear the one about the novelist and the PM? [updated]
Does everyone just feel obliged to speak up when a Booker Prize-winning novelist disparages a PM, or when a PM answers back? Aren’t they both entitled to talk? Did any of the commentariat really have something to say? Or did they just feel the need to open their mouth -- and had no other target, or targets, on which to lash their tongue? So those opposed to the PM targeted the prize-winner. And those in his favour targeted her. And no-one in the end was any the wiser about anything much at all, least of all about any of the subjects raised by the prize-winner, or in the PM’s re... more »
