Emergency potable water supplies - an update

Peter at Bayou Renaissance Man - 17 hours ago
Some years ago, I wrote about the importance of water storage and purification as part of one's emergency preparations. It's a very important, but often neglected topic. All I had to say in that article remains valid. Over the years, I've noticed that storing water long-term in most plastic containers has an added problem. The water takes on a sort of "plastic taste" that I find unpleasant. It's not dangerous to one's health (provided one uses containers made of food-safe plastic), but it's strong enough to taint the taste of food, and can discourage drinking enough to stay pr... more »

Are you a hardcore theorist who sometimes loves to play the game that he (or she, Ann and Anna) is a game-changing inventor dealing with the practical life issues and construction, nevertheless? I am and I do. ;-) Electric cars with batteries suck because 1 kg of a battery only stores 2% of what 1 kg of petrol does. Recharging is slow and some of these parameters won't get much better. But why don't we add wires to all our highways and switch to personal trolleybuses everywhere? The electric cars could have batteries just for a few miles of being off the grid. Freedom of Choice is What Sets Capitalism Apart — Not Competition

arclein at Terra Forming Terra - 20 hours ago
[image: choice.JPG] I am not so sure that this is true. The existence of money allows the choice to preserve in time the opportunity to enter an exchange. This process then allows the possibility of lending money in exchange for interest. The advent of fiat banking then allows all this to fund a capitalistic expansion. Capitalism empowers greater levels of choice, but this was already built in to the system. No economy can function without choice. The real constraint on economic expansion has always been access to sufficient capital to allow the maximum number wealth creato... more »
