"God Grant Me The Courage..."
"The way in which a man accepts his fate and all the suffering it entails, the way in which he takes up his cross, gives him ample opportunity — even under the most difficult circumstances — to add a deeper meaning to his life. It may remain brave, dignified and unselfish. Or in the bitter fight for self-preservation he may forget his human dignity and become no more than an animal. Here lies the chance for a man either to make use of or to forgo the opportunities of attaining the moral values that a difficult situation may afford him. And this decides whether he is worthy of his s... more »

*"Washington Has Declared Hegemony Or War"* by Paul Craig Roberts "I agree with Stephen Lendman (below) that the Russian government’s efforts to deal with the West on the basis of evidence and law are futile. There is only one Western foreign policy and it is Washington’s. Washington’s “diplomacy” consists only of lies and force. “Integrity?”
As of this weekend, there’s a new oxymoron to add to 'Australian culture': Australian integrity. And a lesson to be drawn about owning up. The position of Australian cricket captain in the country’s pecking order is just one down, or even one up, from Australian PM. It bears with it all the virtues and values the Australian likes to think are embodied by those from the broad brown land: courage, fortitude, tenacity, a relentless drive to succeed, integrity. Look however at this press conference over the weekend with the most recent Australian cricket captain to wear that mantle, j... more »

Or are you like leading Stop the War activist Yvonne Ridley who, in the Facebook thread below the now infamous image, couldn't see anything wrong with it? Wikimedia *National Interest:* *In 2030, These 5 Nations Will Have the World's Most Powerful Armies on the Planet* In the end, the answers to “how do we build a powerful army” remain painfully simple. States that have access to enthusiastic populations with high human capital, that can cull the most innovative technologies from robust, modern economies, and that can structure their civil-military relations with just-enough-but-not-too-much independence will tend to do very well. Experience doesn’t hurt, either. The simplicity of the answers does not imply that the prescriptions ar... more »
