DFA Moves Quickly To Make Sure Howard Dean Can't Disgrace The Group
Long before he sold out and became a Big Pharma lobbyist, Howard Dean started DFA-- then Dean for America, now Democracy for America, and run by Howard's brother Jim Dean. No One Is Winning The Syrian Civil War

His country is devastated.* Seven years ago, when Syrian protesters called for “a day of rage” against Bashar al-Assad, there were few signs that they would have an impact. Three years later, as the protests transformed into a civil war, one that would eventually draw in the region’s powers, it seemed a matter of when, not if, Assad would go the way of his fellow strongmen in Tunisia and Egypt. MY THEORY ABOUT TRUMP AND HIS FAVORITE TV STARS DIDN'T HOLD UP
Last weekend I read about President Trump's dinner with Fox News commentators Jesse Waters and Sebastian Gorka, and I also read that he was planning to make a lot of personnel changes -- but it didn't seem as if he was planning to raid Fox News to fill the vacancies he intended to create. I had a theory about that: The reason Trump doesn't just hire Fox pundits for the White House is that he thinks of Fox as *the outside world.* He doesn't see it as a sycophantic media operation that's essentially a part of the GOP -- he sees it as *America.* It's the voice of the people. Why Colleges Must Fight the Wage Gap
The saying goes, “You should never wake a sleeping baby.” Today, the average wage gap between women and men is almost 80 cents to the dollar. While it took more than 130 years for the United States to give women the right to vote, the country is going on 230 years without fair pay for women.
Writers of Color Tackle Human Rights
At first glance, making the argument that human rights are important seems unnecessary. Particularly in America — whose founding document proclaims the “unalienable Rights” of all individuals — it would be difficult to find anyone willing to admit that human rights aren’t valuable.

The Red Lake Tribal Council to remove oil pipelines from its land
“We just want them to move their lines and clean up the pollution and the damages they've done the past 70 years,” Seki said. The Red Lake Tribal Council voted Tuesday to remove Enbridge-owned oil pipelines from its land. The unanimous vote came two months after the council agreed to rescind a resolution accepting a land swap agreement with the Canadian energy company. That Jan. 9 vote paved the way for Tuesday’s action, according to Red Lake Representative Robert Smith. The pipelines in question are located on a 24-acre parcel of land about 30 miles northwest of Bemidji. They we... more »

He’s calling for a $1.5 trillion boost in infrastructure spending – but he’s proposing just $200 billion in federal funding. So where does the rest come from? Tax hikes on the middle-class and poor, and from private investors. 1.* State and local governments, already starved for cash, would have to raise taxes. * 2. *Private investors, for their part, won’t pitch in unless they’re guaranteed a good return on their investment, most likely in ... more »

It's About Space
*Sudden Impact* China’s Tiangong-1 spacecraft has been flying above Earth, completely out of control, since September 2016. Since then, agencies around the world have been monitoring the vehicle, trying to project where it will crash -- on or about April 3. Many experts have predicted that it might hit Detroit. Of all the places the 8 ton space hulk, filled with toxic chemicals, could hit, a Detroit impact would cause the least damage, and might even help restore the place if it wiped out the city's leadership and their minions. Sifting out debris from the toxic Chinese space stati... more »

Is Grocery Delivery Just Another Way to Isolate Us?...
*just thinking out loud.* You may find an odd discussion for someone who purchases numerous items from Amazon, but an article at The Blaze today, *Walmart announces expanded grocery delivery in attempt to compete with Amazon, *set me to pondering this again. Yesterday, after history club and a haircut, I made a quick stop at Costco for a few items, and then headed off to Lowe's to purchase a threshold and wood for a baseboard. While at Costco I had a long discussion with a nice demo person and several shoppers. At Lowe's, after finding what I needed, I popped into the garden depa... more »

*Sebastien Roblin* *Security, * The Su-35S has a powerful Irbis-E passive electronically scanned array radar with a range of up to 400 kilometers; it is also effective against ground targets. *In general, the United States has tended to make expensive aircraft with long service lives. The Soviet Union and later Russia has tended to make affordable aircraft with short service lives and higher maintenance requirements. Some Russian fighters, such as the earlier Su-30 Flanker, have also suffered from significant reliability issues.* *The Su-35 appears to narrow the gap in this rega... more »
Why Truman Dropped the Atomic Bomb on Japan (He Had No Other Choice)
*Tom Nichols* *Security, * The actual decision to drop the bomb was not nearly as casual as “a simple yes.” *The actual decision to drop the bomb was not nearly as casual as “a simple yes.” Critics of the decision to use the “special bomb” in 1945 are judging men born in the 19th century by the standards of the 21st. Had Truman and his commanders shrunk from doing everything possible to force the war to its end, the American people would never have forgiven them. This judgment no doubt mattered more to these leaders than the disapproval of academic historians a half century late... more »

March 15, 2011 Remembered
March 15, 2011 was the day that Fukushima unit 3's reactor blew in the largest of the explosions that rocked the plant in March of 2011. Unit 3's MOX fuel contained plutonium, a very toxic as well as radioactive element (e.g., see here). Nuclear engineer Arnie Gundersen of Fairewinds has hypothesized that unit 3 experienced a "prompt criticality" in the spent fuel pool. Although Gundersen's account has been disputed, there has been no compelling evidence (in my opinion) to rule out his interpretation and, more importantly, reactor fuel from Fukushima's explosions was detected worl... more »
Not the art of now
The Art of Now. Radio 4 this morning. Not so much ‘art’ and not so much ‘now’ - more an undiluted half-hour of low-level but unashamedly emotive stigmatisation of Israel. Of all the wars zones in all the countries in all the world, the BBC has to walk into - - you probably know what I mean, and it isn’t Casablanca. It’s all very well featuring art in dangerous places, but most of the 28 minutes of this programme were devoted to art during “wars” in which Israel was singled out as the villain. And, rather than ‘now” they had to go back to 2006 to feature Beirut. Why shoehorn *“C... more »
