The night will give you a horizon further than you can see. You must learn one thing: the world was made to be free in. Give up all the other worlds except the one to which you belong. "Who Says You Have To?"
"Who Says You Have To?" by Ali "Something I’ve become very aware of recently is how often I say or think “I have to” or “I need to” when, actually, I don’t. You probably do this too. Almost everyone does. I’m thinking of things like: I have to clean the kitchen this weekend. I need to phone my mother. I have to try a bit of that cake. I need to lose weight. In almost every case, it’s just not an accurate way to describe the situation. It can be used tactically, as part of explicit military or geopolitical conflict; or strategically, as a way to reduce, neutralize, and defeat a civilization, state, or organization. Done well, it limits or even eliminates the need for armed force to achieve political and military aims. *“Far from being simply a U.S. or U.K. phenomeno... more »

California State Senate Passes Medicare-For-All-- Conservatives Vow To Kill It In The Assembly
Thursday, the California state Senate passed Ricardo Lara's and Toni Atkins' Healthy California Act (S.B. 562), which, if it passes the Assembly and is signed by Governor Brown, will establish a state "Medicare For All" system of single-payer universal health coverage. It passed 23-14, corrupt conservative Democrats Ben Hueso (Chula Vista), Richard Roth (Riverside) and Richard Pan (Sacramento) refusing to vote for it and, worst of all, Steve Glazer (Orinda) voting with the GOP, as he often does. The bill now goes to the Assembly which will add taxes to pay for it and that means it ... more »

Archaeologists Have Uncovered Oldest Maya Calendar
In the last known largely unexcavated Maya megacity, archaeologists have uncovered the only known mural adorning an ancient Maya house, a new study says—and it's not just any mural. In addition to a still vibrant scene of a king and his retinue, the walls are rife with calculations that helped ancient scribes track vast amounts of time. Contrary to the idea the Maya predicted the end of the world in 2012, the markings suggest dates thousands of years in the future. Perhaps most important, the otherwise humble chamber offers a rare glimpse into the inner workings of Maya society. "... more »

Fukushima Food Presents "No Immediate Problem": UN Food and Agricultural Organization Director General
The other day I read a headline at The Asahi Shimbun that made me pause and read the entire article carefully. Please note that the headline states that the Director General of the UN FAO is "convinced" that Fukushima food is safe to eat. However, if you read his actual words, as quoted in the article, you will see that he is not in fact arguing that Fukushima food is safe to eat. Rather, what he is saying is at this "moment" the agency sees "no immediate problem": Yukie Yamao. (2017). U.N. food agency ‘convinced’ that Fukushima food is safe to eat. Finally got to the bottom of who was "unmasking" all of those names in the intelligence about the Russian meddling. It was the Republican led House.
Courtesy of WaPo: *The Republican-controlled House Intelligence Committee asked U.S. spy agencies late last year to reveal the names of U.S. individuals or organizations contained in classified intelligence on Russia’s meddling in the 2016 election, engaging in the same practice that President Trump has accused the Obama administration of abusing, current and former officials said. * *The chairman of the committee, Rep. The Corporate Mega-Death Machine is Killing Everything
This morning Mary Beth came running down the stairs telling us all to go look at our crab apple tree in the front yard which was full of Cedar Waxwings. I can't ever recall hearing of a Cedar Waxwing - I've likely seen them but don't have any memory of it. But this morning dozens of the beautiful birds were flitting around the crab apple and picking off caterpillars that are presently feasting on the tree leaves. They must have worked that tree for at least an hour before taking off. Later on I went out and looked for evidence of caterpillars on the tree but only saw one. So h... more »

There are still questions that haven’t been answered and I hope to get those answers soon. They will spawn a new posting when that inf... more »

Bill Maher’s Use of Racial Slur on HBO Show Draws Criticism
The "Real Time with Bill Maher" host was describing himself during a television segment.
"Beware..."
"Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword. It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind. And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind has closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry. Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded by patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto the leader and gladly so. How do I know? For this is what I have done. And I am Caesar." - Julius ... more »
