Gluten Free Banana Bread
One of the things I knew I wanted to master in the realm of gluten free cooking was banana bread. There is nothing more comforting than a big loaf of delicious banana bread and finding the perfect gluten free recipe and flour blends to use is something I have spent quite a while doing. This recipe is so good my kids don't even know it is gluten free! That's an atypical finding, although it's worth mentioning that while only 30% of Republicans admitted their party is out of touch, fully 44% of Democrats felt the Democratic Party is out of touch. Teaching, Selling or Consuming Cinco de Mayo
It is that time of year: it is either time to teach, sell or consume Cinco de Mayo. If one decides to teach it, then people come to learn of a great anti-imperialist struggle (1861-67) fought by poor peoples, and a day that memorializes a heroic battle in Puebla on May 5, 1862, that eventually culminated with the kicking out of the French from Mexico in 1867. If one decides to sell it or consume it, then one becomes part of that capitalistic practice of debasing anything sacred and turning it into a tragicomic holiday where drinking and white sales become the norm. Inequality is getting worse, but fewer people than ever are aware of it

A snapshot of inequality in South Africa. Johnny Miller / Unequal Scenes, CC BY-SA Inequality in America is on the rise. Income gains since the 1980s have been concentrated at the top. The top 10 percent today take home 30 percent of all income, and control over three-quarters of all wealth. We have returned to the level of income inequality that marked the Great Depression of the 1920s and 1930s. Who gets what in America continues to be impacted by a person’s race, gender and family resources. What’s striking, however, is how little people seem to notice. Evidence from the Inter... more »

Theresa May and Tory Decadence
The leak of what took place across the Downing Street dinner table when Theresa May sat down with Jean-Claude Juncker last week was, and is, deeply troubling. In an excruciating, embarrassing account, we learn that not only is the UK government ill-prepared for the Brexit negotiations, but that the Prime Minister is clueless, incompetent and delusional. "Living in another galaxy" is how the president of the European Commission put it. A far cry from the image and slogans the Conservative press operation is feeding our most quiescent media. Is evidence of May's wibbling and wobbling... more »
