Jeremy Corbyn and John McDonnell - "slippery characters"

Not a sheep at Not a sheep - 14 minutes ago
Whilst I don't agree with all of the characterisation of Jeremy Corbyn and John McDonnell in this video, there is much that is true and rather damning. The refusal of Jeremy Corbyn to condemn the IRA from 4:30 and John McDonnell's best of our movement remarks near the end of the video should be enough to chill the hearts of any democrats. https://youtu.be/bVvca2SEvqo Video extracts that the institutionally pro Labour Party BBC will do their best not to show in the run-up to the general election.

Is Theresa May trying to not win the election with a large majority?

Not a sheep at Not a sheep - 1 hour ago
Theresa May's tactics during this general election seem odd. Alienating pensioners seems to be an especially odd tactic as they are more likely to vote than other age groups, and more likely to vote Conservative. So the various policies in the Conservative Party manifesto that are detrimental to many seems odd. Unless that is if Theresa May really is a Remainer and wants to be re-elected Prime Minister with a reduced majority or even at the head of a weak coalition government. That way Brexit could be derailed. It's not beyond the realms of possibility and might also explain her... more »

Fact: America's Military Might Peaked in the 1990s (And Its Not Coming Back)

Robert Farley at The National Interest - 6 hours ago
*Robert Farley* *Security, * And the reasons are simple. *A wise man once pointed out that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view. Relative to the 1970s and 1980s, the United States is almost incomparably powerful and secure, enjoying presumptive military advantage over any opponent or plausible coalition of opponents. We sometimes forget, for example, that there is some history to the idea of Russian troops freely operating in Ukraine.* *And the point is not that the United States deserves some kind of comeuppance for its arrogance. It Might Not Be Iron Man or Halo, but Lockheed Martin Is Slowly Making Exoskeletons a Reality

Soldiers wearing exoskeletons have long been the purview of science fiction, but in recent years, the technology has slowly started to move from the realm of videogames to reality. Taiwan, after participating for eight straight years in the annual World Health Assembly (WHA) in Geneva, has suddenly been left out this year with no invitation to attend. Is The World More Stable Than The News Suggest?

War News Updates Editor at War News Updates - 10 hours ago
*(Click on Image to Enlarge)* *The Economist:** The world is more stable than the news suggests* *But fragility increased in some unexpected places last year according to a new index* 2016 was a dismal year for liberal internationalism. Britain voted to leave the European Union; Donald Trump was elected as America’s president and the grip of authoritarians tightened in China, Russia and Turkey. Despite all efforts to dissuade it, North Korea continued its march towards nuclear-power status; bloody wars continued in South Sudan, Syria and Yemen. It might seem obvious, then, that it... more »

A Liberal Democrat government would scrap all benefit sanctions, end the benefit cap and reverse the controversial personal independence payment (PIP) “20-metre rule” that has led to tens of thousands of disabled people losing their Motability vehicles. Although the three policies are not included in the party’s manifesto, which was published yesterday (Wednesday), the Liberal [...]

Will MSNBC Implode Before The 2018 Midterms? I Bet The GOP Would Love That!

DownWithTyranny at DownWithTyranny! - 10 hours ago
My go-to place for TV news and political commentary is Chris Hayes' MSNBC show. He's smart, insightful and careful to present a news show well beyond the standards of today's garbage cable news programming. Out here in L.A., we watch Hayes' show at 5 PM. I often keep the TV on for Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O'Donnell afterwards. They're not as good but better than what you will find on CNN or anyone else pretending to offer mainstream news. But MSNBC has been scaring me off lately by bringing on a lot of right-wing hosts and contributors. As if Chris Matthews and Joe Scarborough we... more »

Syria's Final Fight for Survival as a Nation - is a warning to ALL, small, vulnerable nations (like Canada)

greencrow at Greencrow As The Crow Flies - 11 hours ago
*US Jets Flying Over Syria* Syria is, at this very moment, fighting for its life as a nation. If it cannot send it's soldiers anywhere in its sovereign territory, it is no longer a nation--but merely a piece of geographic meat...to be cut up and divided amongst competing carnivores. What insouciant citizens of Canada and other small, vulnerable Western nations don't or won't accept is that--a threat to Syria is a threat to Canada. Period. Small, militarily vulnerable countries don't count on nukes for self-preservation, like North Korea, Russia, US, China and Israel...we count ... more »

Everything You Need to Know about North Korea's Nuclear and Missile Programs

Todd Crowell at The National Interest - 12 hours ago
*Todd Crowell* *Security, Asia* Here’s an overview of North Korea’s atomic archipelago. If the United States ever seriously considered a pre-emptive strike against North Korea’s nuclear center and missile bases, it would have plenty of targets to choose from. Maybe too many. Times have changed since former president Bill Clinton contemplated a strike against the Yongbyon nuclear complex to put the reactor out of commission. At the time it was Pyongyang’s only source for plutonium. That might have crippled the nuclear program, but now the North has nearly a dozen nuclear weapon/b... more »

Keeping a close eye on the border with China. (Reuters/Aly Song) *Steve Mollman, Quartz:* *It’s time to start considering what a North Korean refugee crisis would look like* There’s an undeveloped strip of land on the Korean peninsula where nature thrives, but wild animals occasionally explode. Walking across it would be a bad idea. Known as the demilitarized zone (DMZ), it divides South Korea and North Korea, nations that technically have been at war since the 1950s. Running 240 km (150 miles) across the Korean peninsula, and measuring about 4 km (2.5 miles) wide, it is heavily g... more »

Crow can't stop looking at its reflection in shop window

White Wolf at White Wolf - 12 hours ago
This crow clearly liked what he saw - spending fifteen minutes preening himself to perfection in a mirrored shop window. The self-obsessed bird was oblivious to the amused reactions of passers-by as it ensured there wasn't a feather out of place by grooming itself roadside in Shinjuku, Tokyo. The hilarious pictures were taken by London photographer Paul Brown while the 51-year-old was on holiday. He said: 'The streets of Shinjuku in Tokyo were vibrant with the sights and sounds of the city. 'It was the last place I expected to see a crow perched on a window ledge ignoring the pe... more »

ABC Faces Backlash for Cancelling Conservative Family Comedy Despite Its Good Ratings

[image: abc-faces-backlash-for-cancelling-conservative-family-comedy-despite-its-good-ratings] It goes without saying that most television networks are interested in making money. That is why television shows that do not garner enough viewership are cancelled. Presumably then, if a television show did, in fact, achieve good ratings, it would be considered an asset by the network and renewed season after season. Such was not the case with Tim Allen’s television sitcom *Last Man Standing*, a show that features a conservative, Christian father with traditional family values who has no ... more »
