Learning To Let Go Of The Need To Be Perfect And Be Authentic
There could be a few reasons for you to feel the need to be perfect. Growing up, you felt the need to get your parents’ attention as you thought you were never good enough. The things you did, didn’t get you the recognition you wanted, and when you did do something right, they never acknowledged it. It could be all about acknowledgment, attention, and confusing perfection for love. Growing up, you got sucked into thinking you have to be perfect to avoid pain, rejection, shame, and judgment. Growing up, you felt the need to be perfect, as mainstream culture teaches and encourages ... more »
Two-Thirds Of Americans Want Vote By Mail-- Texas GOP Wants To See More Voters Infected Instead
Texas has a crackpot extremist as its Attorney General, Ken Paxton, a very far right and very partisan Republican. He somehow thinks preventing Democrats from voting is part of his job description. On Friday he sent a letter to all Texas county judges and election officials asserting that fear of contracting the coronavirus was an "emotional condition" and not a sufficient reason to request an absentee ballot." Paxton: "[A] reasonable fear of contracting the virus is a normal emotional reaction to the current pandemic and does not, by itself, amount to a 'sickness,' much less the... more »

Want Fast 5G Internet? Here Is Where You Need to Be To Get It.
*Stephen Silver* *Technology, * Of course, it depends on who your carrier is and what they have rolled out so far. There's a lot of news out there about 5G these days, whether it's the saga of whether the first iPhone with 5G capability will arrive on time, the rollout of other smartphones equipped with the technology, or the nonsense conspiracy theory that says 5G is tied to the spread of the coronavirus, which has led to the destruction of 5G towers in multiple countries. Question: Will 5G Replace Wi-Fi or Broadband?
*Stephen Silver* *Technology, * With 5G Internet much faster than its predecessors, some have asked whether it will ever replace Wi-Fi or other forms of in-home broadband technology. This question has been raised from time to time, and most experts say the answer is either no, or not yet. After years of buildup, 5G is finally here. Its networks are being built up around the U.S. and the world, 5G-capable smartphones are beginning to roll out, and the rise of the technology has even birthed a bizarre (and debunked) conspiracy theory that 5G is responsible for the spread of corona... more »
Too Big, Too Heavy, Too Expensive: While Not Everyone Loves the iPhone 11 Pro Max

Last September, Apple unveiled its latest generation of iPhones, which consisted of three devices: The iPhone 11, the Phone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. The latter two phones were the first time Apple has ever used the word "Pro" in the name of an iPhone, as it had previously been reserved for MacBooks and iPads. The iPhone 11 Pro Max was, of the three devices, the largest, heaviest and most expensive. It started at a base price of $1,09... more »
The Coronavirus Is Changing How the War in Afghanistan Is Being Waged
*Sabera Azizi* *Security, Middle East* [image: Reuters] The pandemic has caused the Taliban to shift its tactic from mainly targeting densely populated cities to attacking rural areas. This shift in strategy is likely due to the Taliban strategizing to avoid exposure to the virus by steering away from the cities that have been hit the hardest by it. How to Respond to Racial Microaggressions When They Occur
Over the last decade, there has been a significant rise in awareness among educators and the public about racial microaggressions. Coined by Chester Pierce in the 1970’s, racial microaggressions are the subtle forms of racism that are communicated to people of color through messages that degrade and demean them. The BBC reports on a strange placebo effect in the world of sports that even the scientist investigating it can't explain. The Pico Simón Bolívar is one of the highest mountains in Colombia. Near the top, there is only half as much oxygen as at sea level, a dizzying 5,500m (18,000 feet) below. The air up there makes it hard to walk and causes fatigue and headaches, so the body tries to adapt: breathing rate increases, the heart beats faster and blood vessels expand to get more oxygen to tissues. As you might expect, giving someone an oxygen tank to breathe from will reverse these ... more »

Politicians Have Destroyed Markets and Ignored Human Rights with Alarming Enthusiasm
[image: undefined] An economic cataclysm has been unleashed upon the world by Western politicians and bureaucrats. Unbelievably, economic activity in the West has slowed to a creep, as entire populations have been confined to their homes for weeks, if not months. As a result, millions have had their lives turned upside down. Most entrepreneurs and self-employed persons have had their livelihoods jeopardized. The EU economy may shrink by 5 percent according to the European Central Bank (ECB), and similar figures have been forecast for the US. The economic devastation wrecked upon We... more »
Technofascism: Digital Book Burning in a Totalitarian Age
[image: undefined] We are fast becoming a nation—nay, a world—of book burners. While on paper, we are technically free to speak—at least according to the US Constitution—in reality, however, we are only as free to speak as the government and its corporate partners such as Facebook, Google or YouTube may allow. That’s not a whole lot of freedom. Especially if you’re inclined to voice opinions that may be construed as conspiratorial or dangerous. Take David Icke, for example. Icke, a popular commentator and author often labeled a conspiracy theorist by his detractors, recently had h... more »

Big global pandemics, fatality rate
The current Wuhan or China virus has killed .25 million people and 70,000 Americans as of yesterday, representing 0.02% of total US population, indicating this seems to be a mild virus. The Spanish flu more than a century ago remains the most virulent virus in the past and present century. We often read that there were 50M to 100M people who died in the Spanish flu. This seems exagerrated so I searched for some scientific papers, I found one below. The three author scientists estimate there were only about 17.41M global deaths. *“Reassessing the Global Mortality Burden of the 1918 ... more »

Behind the scenes of the meat shortage
The Washington Examiner takes a hard look at some of the factors causing the current meat shortage in the USA. As usual, they can be summed up in a single phrase: the government got involved. Dig a little deeper, and the situation gets even more dire. We could soon see farmers unable to keep their farms afloat, livestock killed in mass with no means to be sold, and hungry families. For those unfamiliar with agriculture policy, this scenario seems unimaginable. But according to those who’ve spent their years toiling in the amber waves of grain, the problem was merely exasperated b... more »
