We Don’t Have To Choose Between Our Health And The Economy
The United States is at a critical moment in the COVID-crisis. This week, the nation is likely to surpass 100,000 deaths and new hotspots in the south and midwest are developing. Forty-two states have either started “reopening” their economies or imminently plan to do so without putting in place essential public health measures to prevent the spread of the virus. As of May 7, more than half of the states that had either reopened or planned to do so (30 at the time) have seen an increase in case counts or positive tests. Public health experts are predicting another round of mass il... more »

Could Covid-1984 "Be Less Dangerous Then We Thought?" You Mean We Didn't Know?
*Interesting that the word used is thought? * *"Thought" is an idea or opinion produced by thinking or occurring in the mind.* *It's equivalent to belief, perception, idea, impression, musing, opinion etc.,* * However "thought" is not accurate knowledge. It's not hard science. It's not data. It's not corroborated information. All those people claiming there has been hard science behind the Covidmania (new meme) are wrong. That hasn't been the case at all. * *There has been, however.... thoughts. All kinds of thoughts about it all.* *Eric Hoskins is a medical doctor, public healt... more »

American churches today are businesses, mostly non-profit small businesses. Hence, they are corporations setup just like other American businesses, requiring licenses and subj... more »

I stumbled across a quote of a 19th century French economic philosopher by the name of Frédéric Bastiat, and I dug up some tidbits of his I thought you might find edifying, especially these days. Because here's the stone-cold simple fact I find galling: future generations of the unborn of having their financial future mortgaged so that the rich people of today can stay rich (and get richer), thanks to the endles... more »

They voice their belief, noisily or subtly, that their difficulties represent a unique kind of affliction that should not be and that has somehow been especially visited upon them, or else upon their families, their tribe, their class, their nation, their race or even their species, and not upon others. "Consumer Spending Will Not Rebound - Here's Why"
*"Consumer Spending Will Not Rebound - Here's Why"* by Charles Hugh Smith "There are two structural reasons why consumer spending will not rebound, no matter how "open" the economy may be. Virtually everyone who glances at headlines knows the global economy is lurching into either a deep recession or a full-blown depression, depending on the definitions one is using. Everyone also knows the stock market has roared back as if nothing has happened. While most financial pundits have accepted that a V-shaped recovery is not possible, few (if any) observers have discussed two factors th... more »

Washington Governor Jay Inslee’s Conscription of Restaurants to Surveil Diners
[image: undefined] Isn’t lifting the prohibition on reopening businesses that were required to close in the coronavirus crackdown supposed to provide greater respect for individual rights? Inslee announced on Monday that some restaurants will be permitted to reopen for in-restaurant dining at 50 percent capacity. That is not great, but at least it is a start. But, here’s a catch: Inslee mandated that restaurants record the phone numbers, email addresses, and arrival times of all diners... more »
