Lies, Damned Lies and Statistics
There is a distinct value to integrity. Just ask disgraced former FBI Director Big Jim Comey. His book is all about how much integrity he has, and how much he had when it was helping to organize a coup. I wanted to start this blog post by pointing out the obvious. Governments lie. The Obama […] The post Lies, Damned Lies and Statistics appeared first on Virtual Mirage.
Checking the site meter
I have a meter on my blog. Each post gets usually 40-50 hits, since blogging isn't as popular as it once was. (I've been blogging since 2003, before Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) That doesn't mean the person necessarily reads it--keywords are used and a Google, Bing or Duck duck go search could just mean a search found it. The Google algorithms were changed a number of years ago to favor businesses and large news services and most people stop searching after the first 10-15 suggestions. I rarely check it, but did today because I was updating some labels. I noticed my memorial ... more »
Extending the pandemic damage
“We have not seen an application in weeks,” says Steve Anthony, CEO of the Anthony Timberlands sawmill in Arkansas. He’s offering jobs that pay $800/week. But in Arkansas, federal and state unemployment benefits reach $1,051/week. Anthony told my TV producer Maxim Lott, “If Congress elects to extend this $600 unemployment bonus, it will simply support a higher level of unemployment.” Lott also interviewed Otis Mitchell Jr., who quit his job transporting hospital patients once he learned about the increase in unemployment benefits. “My little girl is loving it,” said Mitchell, be... more »

After a year by himself, lonely fox living in garden finds love
A young fox’s private life was revealed to a woman when she kept tabs on what he got up to in her garden. The fox took up residence in Jen’s backyard last March, much to her delight. And this week, he appeared to have a new friend…a girlfriend. Jen lives in England and said the foxes like their garden probably because all the neighboring properties have dogs and cats. “Fortunately (or unfortunately as I want a cat!) we have neither,” said Jen. “Next door has three cats, and there are numerous huge dogs in neighboring gardens too! There’s a giant Rottweiler next door, two German sh... more »

Voter-Fraud crops up in Pennsylvania
In 2018, the state of Pennsylvania elected Tom Wolfe a Democrat as their governor 57.8% to 40.7% against a Republican. There are 67 counties yet according to a voters map only 17 counties went Democrat. Something very similar happened in Virginia. Pittsburgh is in Allegheny County and as you can see most of the largest city areas carried the voting to push the Democrats into position. But it is Democrats who are DEMANDING the entire country move to mail-in ballots. …... more »

Gerald Anderson, Stan Friedman and Winfred Buskirk - Plains of San Agustin Controversy
In an attempt to clean up some things, I was looking at the Gerald Anderson tale of seeing a crashed flying saucer on the Plains of San Agustin back in 1947. This became quite the controversy in 1991when Anderson identified the leader of the archaeologists seen there as Adrian Buskirk. Tom Carey, who has an advanced degree in anthropology, took on the task of locating Buskirk. While he didn’t find anyone named Adrian, he did find one man named Winfred Buskirk who had earned a Ph.D. in anthropology in 1949. Could this be the same man that Anderson had identified? Facebook Told My Followers I Was Spreading Misinformation About Government Surveillance
There is no silver bullet solution that will stop the spread of online misinformation without resulting in collateral damage and censorship of legitimate content and marginalized voices. Instead of calling for more aggressive moderation, we should address the problem at its root: Big Tech companies’ underlying business model of data harvesting, micro-targeting, and artificial algorithmic amplification maximized for engagement above all else. Organizing For Environmental Justice
Young people have been paramount to just about every successful social movement in this country, with the Climate Movement, and the revolt against oil and gas being no exceptions. No Governor DeSantis isn't hiding China virus data and no the woman wasn't fired for refusing to hide data
The #FakeNews media will tell any lie to attack Republicans like DeSantis, Governor of Florida, just as they'll tell any lie to protect Democrats like Governor Cuomo of New York. While they studiously ignore the fact that Cuomo forced nursing homes to take patients with the China, or European as Cuomo likes to call it, virus they're saying that DeSantis fired a female government worker because she wouldn't manipulate data. What really happened was that the woman in question, whose name I'm not going to mention because she's gone into hiding, made mistake and when told to correct it... more »
Another Global Warming/Climate Change Lie: No Climate Change isn't driving an increase in strong hurricanes
A new study, by government funded folks who depend on the climate crisis being real to keep getting paid, allegedly shows that climate change is causing a significant increase in strong hurricanes. It's totally wrong. The main data point in the new study is that when examining hurricanes in the period between 1979 and 2017 there probability that a tropical storm grew into a hurricane increased by 8%. That's a tiny variation and hardly likely to be significant as you can see by looking at a plot showing the number of tropical storms and hurricanes in each year from 1970 to 2019. Cl... more »
Obama spied on American Jews and members of Congress
If you for some reason think that it's unlikely that Obama's minions would misuse the Intelligence Community (IC) to spy on his political opponents let me take you back to 2015. Obama is desperate to make a deal with Iran; a country who he likes much more than he likes Israel. American Jews and members of Congress who support Israel, the only truly religiously tolerant and democratic country in the Middle East, were talking to people in Israel to get information about the situation. The Wall Street Journal reported that the NSA monitored those conversations. Even worse the Obama a... more »
Joe Biden shows he's not ready to run the country
It's sad but true that Joe Biden isn't mentally fit enough to be President. One or two verbal slips we could excuse but when he says he's going to beat himself in the Presidential race our only options are that he is saying that he's his own worst enemy or that he's not understanding the words he's saying. “I’m prepared to say that I have a record over 40 years, and that I’m going to beat Joe Biden” He is right though. During the Great Depression, power flowed from the provinces to the federal government in Ottawa. In the 1990's, Canada decentralized and power flowed back to the provinces. Robin Sears writes that, as a result of the pandemic, the flow of power is once again being reversed: In the next three to five years, as we clean up from the massive bloodshed — human and financial — of the pandemic, the new centre of power in Canada will be the federal government. Vertical Liberals Versus Horizontal Conservatives
The liberals think vertically; the conservatives think horizontally. Vertical thinking encourages the liberals to take a top-down approach for solving mankind’s problems, and they entrust the fate of their society into the hands of revolutionary leaders, experts, and technocrats who promise to obliterate the old systems and create a utopia where safety, happiness, and purposefulness are available to all. Horizontal thinking encourages the conservatives to take a bottom-up approach and look around themselves for solutions; their approach is pragmatic, in the sense that they desire so... more »
