More Doctors Speak Out AGAINST Face Masks – If No Health Benefit, What is the Real Reason They are Mandated?
Ironically, as coronavirus deaths continue to decline in the US and as more states are "opening up," there appears to be an increase in mask wearing. Are the face masks going to prevent the spread of the virus? Will they protect people from the virus? Or may they actually cause harm to some people? Or...even: are they a new form of "virtue signaling," a show of submission to the "authorities"? Could mandatory face mask requirements be the prelude to mandatory vaccines and other measures in the near future? "The Biggest Economic Threat Today"
*"The Biggest Economic Threat Today"* by Brian Maher "Kind heaven, no! A fresh economic scourge is upon the land. Announces CNN: “New Threat to the Economy: Americans Are Saving Like It's the 1980s.” Is a higher evil possible? Thus we are informed: "Americans are slashing their spending, hoarding cash and shrinking their credit card debt as they fear their jobs could disappear during the coronavirus pandemic. Wall Street Will Likely Be the Only Winners in the Pandemic Housing Crisis

Trump Wins! Completing Obama’s Asian Pivot And Confrontation With China
The Trump administration is determined to “put China in its place,” a white supremacist mindset that will inevitably lead to monumental errors of judgment. The new bipartisan, ruling class consensus that more aggressive measures were needed to contain China was captured in the now-infamous “pivot to Asia” announced by Barack Obama in 2011. Today the growing ruling class consensus that has given new life to Trump’s anti-China campaign is reflected in the positions that say economic integration with China did not result in any transformation of China into a “regular” capitalist n... more »
The Established Order Has Never Been Weaker
All around the globe, governments are starting to move forward with reopening plans that lift some degree of COVID-19 social distancing. With that comes talk of recovery and rebuilding. While some of the attention is on green stimulus and a range of progressive demands for just and equitable recoveries, the only way we can win any such advances is through movements that are prepared to take on the fight. Before the COVID-19 crisis began, the world was — by and large — governed by a neoliberal common sense with its roots in Reagan- and Thatcher-era politics. The same leaders who up... more »
COVID-19 Deaths Among Nurses: US 91, Canada 0. Why?
There’s a yawning gap between the number of U.S. nurses the viral pandemic has killed so far in the U.S. and the number of Canadian nurses killed. The count as of May 11: U.S. 91, Canada, 0. That prompted National Nurses United President Zunei Cortez, RN, of California and her Canadian counterpart, Linda Silas, RN, to meet each other via Zoom on May 11, with hundreds of nurses from both nations listening in, to discuss why. And it all comes down to the fact, both agreed, that Canada’s nationalized health system, despite a large hole involving nursing homes, puts people – patients... more »
COVID-19 Strike Wave Enters Third Month
Workers at 50 locations across Florida struck McDonald’s, Starbucks, and other fast-food restaurants on May 6. What united them was the failure of these multibillion-dollar enterprises to correct hazardous working conditions that put workers at risk of contracting COVID-19. Some of these McDonald’s workers are also part of a statewide class-action lawsuit over widespread sexual harassment. Starbucks and McDonald’s both made billions in profits last year by paying low wages, yet they refuse to spend the funds needed to keep workers safe. A Starbucks worker in Orlando described a co... more »
Corporate Media Don’t Think Americans Paid To Invade Venezuela Count Are Mercenaries
When an attempted invasion of Venezuela launched from the shores of Colombia was foiled on May 3, after armed commandos were intercepted at Venezuela’s coastline of La Guira, it seemed undeniable that the heavily armed men, possessing satellite phones and uniforms with the US flag emblazoned on them, had been paid to take part in a coup attempt to overthrow the Venezuelan government (People’s Dispatch, 5/6/20). In recent reports regarding the Bay of Pigs–style invasion, however, the term “mercenary” was accompanied by scare quotes, as if these men could only be seen that way from ... more »
Private Prison Sues State For Not Having Enough Prisoners
A private prison in Arizona recently sued the state for having a lack of prisoners. For the sake of saving over $16 million in back pay, the state settled by paying the private prison $3 million. Arizona essentially payed a company $3 million because not enough people are committing crimes. To be fair, it’s a bit more complex than that. In July, 2010 three violent inmates escaped from an Arizona private prison, which prompted officials to stop sending new inmates to the facility. I say good job to the officials for demanding better performance from Management & Training Corp., the... more »
The COVID-19 Risks – Know Them – Avoid Them
It seems many people are breathing some relief, and I’m not sure why. An epidemic curve has a relatively predictable upslope and once the peak is reached, the back slope can also be predicted. We have robust data from the outbreaks in China and Italy, that shows the backside of the mortality curve declines slowly, with deaths persisting for months. Assuming we have just crested in deaths at 70k, it is possible that we lose another 70,000 people over the next 6 weeks as we come off that peak. That's what's going to happen with a lockdown. As states reopen, and we give the virus mor... more »
‘We Need To Unite All The New And Old Insurgencies’
Argentina is immersed in a deep economic crisis inherited from the previous government of Macri that handed the country over to transnationals and strengthened the idea of emptying it by massive capital flight abroad. But to be honest, the foreign debt that today the government of Alberto Fernandez is renegotiating downward to end up paying less, is not only a product of the Macri but also from much earlier. It comes from the time when the military dictatorship was in power and since then no government in those 37 years chose not to pay it, and by doing so it always went against t... more »

"This is the Big One" Video of "This is the Big One" Helga expanded on her discussion of why she is insisting that the present crisis is “The Big One”, and not a prelude to a bigger crisis to come. The problem, she said, is that people focus on aspects of the crisis, such as the pandemic, the financial crisis, global famine, the war danger, but miss the overall cause—that we are in a breakdown crisis fifty years in the making. There is no solution to the individual crises without addressing all crises at once. This is possible today, because of the work done by Lyndon L... more »

Envisioning the New Normal After the Coronavirus Prison Crisis
*Marc Levin* *Security, Americas* [image: Reuters] America must preserve many of the innovations adopted under the duress of the pandemic, which were long overdue. Indeed, as of April 22, two of the top five locations in the United States for coronavirus infections were prisons in Ohio. Even if a prison never admitted or released anyone, staff and contractors come in and out every day. Moreover, because of the crowded spaces and often poor air circulation an... more »

Revisiting the ammo stash question
Following my recent three article series on the personal defensive rifle, I had a lengthy exchange with someone who (strongly) disagrees with me about how much ammunition one should keep in reserve, for when the proverbial brown substance hits the rotary air impeller.
