Midnight Meme Of The Day!

*by Noah* Lots of people say *Saturday Night Live* isn't as good as it once was. You know..."people are saying." They may be right. They may be wrong, but I did hear that the last episode of the season had Eddie Murphy for the first time in 35 years and was very good and got "great ratings." The only negative comments I heard of supposedly came from republicans and Bill Cosby (Now there's a pairing). Apparently that stemmed from Cosby calling Murphy a "Hollywood slave" and some Repugs jumped on it. You know they have a fixation with Hollywood. Anyway, I'm happy for *SNL* and Eddi... more »

Raw Terror

Willis Eschenbach at Skating Under The Ice - 21 hours ago
Folks sometimes accuse me of being “Islamophobic”. A “phobia” is a baseless fear of something harmless. I don’t have that. What I have is a historically justified, fact-based fear of Islam. It’s not just Christianity in funny hats. It is a warriors religion and the stated goal is to establish a “Caliphate”, an Islamic government…

*Kyle Mizokami* *Security, * The SR22 is a well balanced rimfire pistol that can do a little bit of everything, from target shooting at the range to light hunting and even home defense. *Key point: *Lightweight and inexpensive to shoot, it is an excellent training handgun for first time shooters. The field of rimfire pistols is a crowded one, with a large variety of pistols to choose from. The Ruger SR22 pistol manages to stand out by combining a modern look with versatility to match the user, from the ability to customize the pistol’s ergonomics to the installation of threaded... more »

America's Next Super Weapon: 'Electromagnetic' Artillery Shells?

Michael Peck at The National Interest - 22 hours ago
*Michael Peck* *Security, * It could paralyze enemy cities. *Key point: *Conventional weapons, such as bombs and missiles, can also generate EMP bursts. If the U.S. Army has its way, America’s next secret weapon may be an electromagnetic pulse artillery shell that paralyzes an enemy city. These special shells won’t carry high explosive. Instead they will emit EMP bursts, or some other non-kinetic technology, to disrupt the computers, radio communications, Internet links and other ties that bind modern societies. And do so without creating any physical damage. This is sort of a ... more »

The Army's Next-Generation 50mm Cannon Is Ready To Destroy

Kris Osborn at The National Interest - 22 hours ago
*Kris Osborn* *Security, * The blast effect, weapons developers explain, is precisely the intent for the Army’s new 50mm weapon – to bring a longer-range, more-lethal measure of firepower to medium caliber armored vehicle attack. (*Kingman, Ariz.*) As a small ball of fire shot out of the end of a new 50mm cannon, a cloud of smoke filled the air and, in what seemed like less than one second, an explosion of smoke and fire destroyed a mock enemy target from hundreds of yards away -- on the other side of an Arizona desert valley. The explosion was precise, burning and shattering a ... more »

Meet The Army's 'Suicide Squad' That Was Meant To Take Down Russia's Special Forces

Michael Peck at The National Interest - 22 hours ago
*Michael Peck* *History, Europe* Luckily they weren't needed. *Key point:* It was a desperate plan to slow the Soviet advance through postwar Germany. Had the Cold War turned hot, there would have been no escape for the U.S. garrison in West Berlin. Marooned in a city more than 100 miles inside Communist East Germany, the U.S. Berlin Brigade—and the British and French garrisons as well—would certainly have been overwhelmed by Soviet and East German troops. Their presence helped keep half of Berlin free from Communist rule. But it was no secret that theirs was a suicide mission. ... more »

Russia's APS Spetsnaz Rifle Can Fire Underwater, But How Good Is It?

Kyle Mizokami at The National Interest - 1 day ago
*Kyle Mizokami* *Security, Europe* We take a look. *Key point: *The APS is so specialized for underwater use it is not a very good land weapon. The widespread use of combat divers, more commonly known as frogmen, led to the inevitable question: how do frogmen from opposing sides kill each other when they meet underwater? In response, during the 1970s the Soviet Union developed an underwater assault rifle, the APS, that is still used by Russia today. The unusual-looking weapon is so uniquely suited to fighting under the surface of the waves it rapidly degrades if used on land. T... more »

How 335,000,000 People Could Die in a Nuclear War in 3 Days

Kyle Mizokami at The National Interest - 1 day ago
*Kyle Mizokami* *Security, * While the threat of nuclear war between the United States and Soviet Union has ended, the United States now faces the prospect of a similar war with Russia or China. *Key point: *It's even worse today than during the Cold War. It is no exaggeration to say that for those who grew up during the Cold War, all-out nuclear war was “the ultimate nightmare.” The prospect of an ordinary day interrupted by air-raid sirens, klaxons and the searing heat of a thermonuclear explosion was a very real, albeit remote, possibility. Television shows such as *The Day A... more »

For Sale! Russia Is Showing Off Its Su-35 Stealth Fighter

Mark Episkopos at The National Interest - 1 day ago
*Mark Episkopos* *Security, * Russia wants money. *Key point: *While prolonged aerial refueling footage is hardly exciting from a military hardware viewpoint, a series of videos demonstrating the Su-57 as a viable, near-finished product can prove useful as part of a larger Russian campaign to woo prospective investors. Footage recently released by the Russian Ministry of Defense shows Russia's flagship fifth-generation stealth fighter, the Su-57, being aerially refueled by an Il-78 tanker. Before this, the Su-57 can be seen imitating a refueling formation behind an An-12 transpo... more »
