*Patrick Wintour, The Guardian*:* Syria will see US price for chemical attack as worth paying* Whether Trump opts for single retaliatory act or wider response, Assad will think he is winning Donald Trump’s Twitter warning that a big, albeit unspecified, price will be paid for Bashar al-Assad’s alleged use of chemical weapons on innocent civilians in Douma points to some form of punitive military strike being launched by western forces. The tweet is all the more remarkable for containing some of Trump’s first direct criticism of Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, and his role ... more »
Oh, The Insanity! “'Condom Snorting Challenge' Is The Latest Dangerous Trend”
*“'Condom Snorting Challenge' Is The Latest Dangerous Trend”* by Chris Anderson “The internet has seen the "Tide Pod challenge" and the "cinnamon challenge," but the most recent online challenge is dangerous, and perhaps, the most disturbing of them all. Videos posted on social media show people unwrapping a condom from the packaging, snorting it up one nostril, and then attempting to pull it through the pharynx and out of the mouth. The challenge has been around for several years, but it is becoming popular again as people, mainly younger adults and teens, search for stupid trends ... more »
"Believe in Yourself!"
*"Believe in Yourself!"* by Jill Badonsky “What you are is a question only you can answer.” — Lois McMaster Bujold "We tend to be attracted to confident, bold, defiant people in the world. Many times audacity can go further than even talent. The talented person who does not show belief and confidence can flounder, when someone less talented but with assertive belief can flourish. Being convinced in the merit of ourselves is an attractive energy that sells and magnetizes attention as much for the product as for the belief itself. "Life, eh?"
"We said together, wistfully, 'Life, eh?' It says everything without having to say anything: that we all experience moments of joyful or painful reflection, sometimes alone, sometimes sharing laughs and tears with others; that we all know and appreciate that however wonderful and precious life is, it can equally be a terribly confusing and mysterious beast. 'Life, eh?" - Miranda Hart

If there are some who still wonder what Ronald Reagan meant by the words "evil empire" they may find satisfaction in this prescient, impressively complete, explication by William Hazlitt, published in 1817, apt for all time though perhaps a century before the greatest need.” -Leif *“What Is 'the People'?" March 7, 1818* by William Hazlitt (1778-1830) “And who are you that ask the question? One of the people. And yet you would be something! Then you would not have the People-nothing. A well-deserved triumph for Viktor Orbán
In recent years, Viktor Orbán became much more than just a reliable leader of Hungary. He became an important representative of the European people – and an important defender of the Old Continent and the European civilization who isn't just a symbol or a talking head. He has dealt with nontrivial tasks and had to do lots of nontrivial things that have earned a lot of sympathy for him in other European countries besides Hungary, too. I didn't have the slightest doubt that his Fidesz would win the today's parliamentary elections. Well, I did find it more likely that he would improv... more »

Commentaries And Analysis On The U.S. - China Trade War
*Milton Ezrati, National Interest*: *Trump's Trade Wars Could Get Very Ugly* Both sides stand ready to inflict considerable pain on the other—even as they talk about talking. President Trump has started a dangerous game with these tariffs. Rather than use more quiet means to move China from less-than-fair trade practices, he has chosen to play an all or nothing game—or what looks like one. It may yet yield positive results. But China’s leadership is no less afraid of risk than Trump. While willing to talk, it has countered the American tariffs with some of its own. Now both countr... more »

It's all about Donald Trump (at least in his funhouse mirror worldview), yet it isn't.
