Quote of the Day: The confusion of the anti-globalist
*"The great age of foreign investment came to an inglorious end when the 20th century's doctrinaires were no longer prepared to see any difference between the devastation of a country by military action and the investment of foreign capital for the construction of factories and transportation facilities. Each of these two entirely different procedures is called conquest and imperialism."* ~ Ludwig Von Mises, writing in 1966 on 'The Outlook for Saving & Investment' . The Tide Pod Generation Is Suddenly Bestowed With Great Wisdom
*DT-* It was only a few short weeks ago when the dangerous craze of teens eating Tide detergent pods and posting the videos on social media had gotten so out of control that YouTube and others removed the videos so as to not encourage them. But in less than a month, the Tide Pod Generation has gone from being a great American shame to being our current leaders in the “debate” on how to run the country. All that it took was one school shooting, a well-funded and highly-coordinated anti-Second Amendment movement, a crooked cable television network falsely presenting itself as a legi... more »

The Navy Has One Nuclear Spy Submarine So Secret We Know Almost Nothing About It

Murdoch's Right
If you had any doubts about Donald Trump's exploding insanity, yesterday should have put them to rest -- because yesterday he floated his solution to school shootings. Amanda Holpuch and Paul Owen report in *The Guardian * that: The US president on Wednesday held a listening session at the White House with survivors of last week’s Florida school shooting and others affected by gun violence, telling them “teachers and coaches” who were “very adept at using firearms” could be armed. “If you had a teacher who was adept at firearms, they could very well end the attack very quickly,” h... more »

Questionable value of inequalities in physics
Bill Zajc brought my attention to a very good talk that Raphael Bousso gave about his recent and older work. Inequalities play a very important role in his work. I am much willing to appreciate the value of an inequality than what I was when I was a kid or a teenager. But much of that sentiment has survived: I don't really believe that a typical inequality tells us too much about the laws of physics. First, my initial realization is that inequalities incorporate much less information than identities. Imagine that you're asked how much is \(8+9\). Many of you will be able to answer\[... more »

The moral evil of gun-grabbers
Yes, I'm saying that many (perhaps most) of those seeking to destroy the Second Amendment and confiscate firearms are morally evil. Why? Because they're deliberately propagating lies, and promoting an agenda that cannot possibly prevent evil acts such as the Parkland school shooting, while inflicting a different evil on other innocent people. I've covered the basic arguments before, so I won't waste time doing that again. Please read the article at that link for more details. Not only do the anti-gunners refuse to address those points, they actively *avoid* doing so. They know... more »

Time For A Late Night Spy Mystery? When Will Mueller Nail Kushner-in-Law?
I don't think it would surprise anyone to hear that Paul Manafort-- Trump's original campaign manager and the likely Putin connection-- is going to prison. But Mueller seems to be ramping up the pressure on him, probably to turn on other, higher up Trump associates. Reporter Jason Leopold broke another piece of the story Monday night. It starts with $40 million in "suspicious" financial transactions (likely looted from Ukraine). "The vast web of transactions," wrote Leopold, "was unraveled mainly in 2014 and 2015 during an FBI operation to fight international kleptocracy that ultim... more »

The intelligence relationship arguably provides stability and reassurance that Washington’s national security apparatus remains on watch against transnational threats such as cyber insecurity and a resurgent Russia, despite... more »

America Needs to Think About the Next War—Before It's Too Late

Time to End America's Foreign Policy Losing Streak
*Daniel L. Davis* *Security, Americas* The United States has expended enormous resources and sacrificed many of its service members to a mission that has resulted in a net loss to America. While the goal of defending American citizens and interests from the Islamic State has always been entirely valid, the way Washington has pursued that objective has diminish... more »
