On the road again
Miss D. and I are on the road again, to attend the LTUE convention (Life,
the Universe and Everything) in Utah. Blogging will be lighter than usual
for a few days. I'll try to post when I can, but that may not be too often.
I'll be grateful if those of you so inclined will please say a prayer or
two for traveling mercies. I've not had much exposure to snow, ice, etc.,
and I suspect there's a lot more of that in Utah than there is in Texas!
We'll see how my gimpy back and leg, and rubber-tipped walking stick,
handle it.

I just returned from a day-long conference called "New Teaching Methods in
Mathematics?" that was primarily dedicated to an explosive phenomenon in
the Czech basic schools, the so-called Hejný's method to teach mathematics (TRF
texts on Hejný).
Most people believe that the method is named after Prof Milan Hejný who was
recently celebrating his 80th birthday – as he reminded us several times –

President Trump has delivered his military budget request for 2019 that
increases spending by 12 percent over 2017 spending. Designed to fully fund
a "depleted" military, even Defense Secretary Mattis was surprised at the
figures. Many more warships, many more F-22s (even though they don't work).
Half a billion more dollars to continue the US "regime change" operation in
Syria. There's something in it for everybody...except the American people.
