Do Russians See Themselves As Exceptional?
*Gregory Carleton, The Conversation*: *Why Russia thinks it’s exceptional* Destiny calls upon Russia once more to face the West – or so Russians might believe. America is not alone in projecting itself as an exceptional power and indispensable force for good in the world. Russia makes the same claim. That sentiment is built upon centuries of defeating invaders, as I explore in “Russia: The Story of War.” And it plays a key role in how Russia sees itself in its increasingly tense relationship with NATO and the West. *Read more* .... *WNU Editor*: Many Russians see themselves and R... more »

Would You Vote For Someone Who Claims She's Been On An Extraterrestrial Spaceship? What If She Was Also A Republican Connected To Mike Pence?
The other day, a friend of mine was on vacation in Colorado. He stocked up on so much marijuana that he decided it was too risky to fly back to the East Coast, so he took a train instead. I'd be a lot younger if he was half my age but he asked me if I had ever done acid. "Dude," I said, "my nickname used to be 'Tripmaster.' Why?" He wanted to take some LSD on the long train ride home. The Battle Of Kirkuk - All About Oil?
The United States has spent tens of billions of dollars training the Iraqi army over the past 14 years. It's also spent close to a billion dollars training the Kurdish Peshmerga fighters in northern Iraq. Now, with the independence referendum passing in Iraqi Kurdistan and the resulting crackdown by Baghdad, we have the US-backed Iraqi army confronting the US-backed Kurdish Peshmerga fighters. Who's happy? The weapons dealers! This is the folly of an interventionist foreign policy laid bare. What's next? Tune in to today's Liberty Report:

Does China Really Pose a Threat to Taiwan?
*Richard A. Bitzinger* *Security, Asia* China-Taiwan tensions seem almost quaint in comparison to the modern troubles in Asia. A colleague of mine loves to point out that I am constantly saying, “Back in the Nineties…” In other words, I am always commenting on current events by referencing incidents and aftereffects that took place more than 20 years ago. I guess that is just the occupational hazard of growing older. On the other hand, memory and experience help to put modern happenings into perspective. And lately, we seem to be revisiting an Asian security problem that many p... more »

Documenting India: Food, Development and Agriculture
Readers might like to read my document about 'India, Development and Agriculture'. It was intended as a draft for a book and was with a publisher; however, it contains 670 embedded links that needed to be removed and added as properly formatted footnotes. I had neither the time nor inclination to do that. So, as a book, it remains a non-starter, especially as certain events are now overtaking some of the information contained in the text. Bear in mind that, as it stands, it is a raw draft that has not been proofread or edited to remove any repetition of information. You can downloa... more »

The REAL Russian Colluders

The piece centers on what happened before then-President Barack “*approved a controversial deal in 2010 giving Moscow control of a large swath of American uranium*.” Apparently, FBI agents obtained “*substantial evidence that Russian nuclear industry officials were engaged in bribery, kickbacks, extortion and money laundering designed to grow Vladimir Putin’s atomic energy business... more »

America's Options on North Korea Are Bleak

With the exception of farther-north-than-normal B-1B bomber flights, it appears to be business-as-usual in these unusual times.
