America signs a peace treaty with coal
*Some mixed feelings about the happy death of the Clean Power Plan* Donald Trump isn't the first president of the U.S. Some younger readers probably no longer know the name but Trump's predecessor was called Mr Barack Obama and he has done some mad things to please America's extreme left-wingers. One of them was the adoption of the "Clean Power Plan" that was basically killing coal as the source of energy in the U.S. – while using the pseudoscientific excuse that there was something wrong about the CO2 emitted when the coal burns. *The impact of acid rains which have nothing to do... more »
What the BBC chooses to report and what it chooses not to report
'... peaceful demonstration in London yesterday, which had attracted a crowd in the tens of thousands - some have suggested as many as 70,000. It was an anti-extremism march organised by a group calling itself the Football Lads Alliance. Shamefullly, there has not been a word about the march from the corporation (or indeed from any other part of the mainstream media). In fact, the Football Lads Alliance is not mentioned on the BBC website at all. Yet the BBC is quite happy to report a protest by 150 people demanding changes to disability benefits and a protest by "hundreds" about... more »

“Psych Ward”
*“Psych Ward”* by John Davis “It started at the end of the fifteenth century. A cohort of brutal, sociopathic Europeans, fresh from the torture rooms of the Spanish Inquisition, and later from duty in the religious wars, arrived on American shores to kick butt. By 1610, they and their successors, by steel sword, axe, knife, and pike, biological pathogens and very occasionally by blunderbuss, had killed fifty million largely stone-age indigenous people. In the northern temperate zone of this vast continent, some of those mass murderers became the founding patients of the Psych Ward... more »

What Most Americans Don't Know about Extreme Poverty
What has been poorly understood is that extreme poverty is collapsing and is the leading change agent in terms of the global economy. The general trend line was established long ago and always moved well ahead of the increase in population. That China is now essentially resolved is fantastic news. The next twenty years will clean up India as well. All of which strongly suggests that extreme poverty will be extinct by 2050 without any particular interventions. I would add that interventions are unlikely to speed it up much at all and will more likely delay. As posted before,... more »
Why did Alexander the Great decide to turn back after he conquered Northern India?
This actually spells out his direct reason for actually entering India. It was to secure the Persian Empire itself to its fullest extent. When he arrived, he did just that and actually no more. What he learned though was that any further extension of his power was completely unrealistic and simply foolhardy. Recall that the geographical extent of India matches that of Europe to the Urals. It took the British several generations to do exactly this... Thus he needed to consolidate Persia. Had he been able to create a unified Greek led empire, then further expansion may h... more »
The Cathars & Their Modern Day Revival
Rather useful piece here and what comes from it is that the historical record was terribly compromised and obviously their scriptures were lost. My own work has pretty well placed the Kolbrin bible far outside this particular movement, although Cathaism may well be derivative. The dark, ugly side of Taiwanese life
In Taiwan there are many illegal factories, gravel mining operations, and stone quarries. Midnight Meme Of The Day!

Call this a meme of the day or a clip of the day. It doesn't matter. What's important is the conveyed message. U.S. Defense Secretary Mattis Has Told Senior Military Leaders To Start Talking To The Press
