Tech giants are fighting back

Obi-Wan Kabuki at AMERICAN KABUKI - 1 minute ago
*Tech giants are fighting back* By Jon Swartz, @jswartz, USA TODAYPosted 1d 20h ago *SAN FRANCISCO — Google, Facebook, Microsoft and Twitter are engaged in a costly tech arms race, with their businesses and cultures at stake. Not against one another, mind you, but a common foe: the National Security Agency.* The tech juggernauts are investing in security technology, lobbying efforts and good old-fashioned PR to thwart U.S. government snooping of their data systems, often without their cooperation or knowledge. For months, the narrative has focused on data breaches and spying as t... more »

Christmas Tree Pine Cones

Debra Hawkins at Housewife Eclectic - 19 hours ago
As the snow falls outside, we pull out the kids crafts inside. I love to craft with my 4-year-old, especially crafts where she can make most of the craft by herself, with some supervision. These darling Pine Cone Christmas Trees were perfect! You will need: - Small pearl type beads - Mod Podge - Twine - Glitter - Plastic Snowflakes (I cut mine from a garland) - Hot Glue - Foam Brush - Pine Cones - Glue Add Mod Podge to the edges of of the pine cone with a foam brush. I supervised while my daughter spread the Mod Podge, and she did pretty good all by ... more »

Constructive Dismissal

Hynes v. Qulliq 2013 NUCJ 25: To reach the conclusion that an employee has been constructively dismissed, the court must therefore determine whether the unilateral changes imposed by the employer substantially altered the essential terms of the employee's contract of employment. For this purpose, the judge must ask whether, at the time the offer was made, a reasonable person in the same situation as the employee would have felt that the essential terms of the employment contract were being substantially changed. Reported Security Incidents Across Southern Iraq In 2013

MUSINGS ON IRAQ - 20 hours ago
Southern Iraq has witnessed plenty of violence in 2013, but it pails in comparison to central and northern Iraq. While a province like Baghdad might have five to ten attacks per day, some provinces in the south have that many in a year. Different governorates have also gone through different experiences. In Babil for example there has been a relentless wave of attacks mostly aimed at average citizens. Basra has seen a mix of Al Qaeda in Iraq bombings, and religious, political, and sectarian violence. Karbala and Najaf have gone through repeated attempts to stir sectarian tensions... more »
