The tech juggernauts are investing in security technology, lobbying efforts
and good old-fashioned PR to thwart U.S. government snooping of their data
systems, often without their cooperation or knowledge.

The wheels are turning and the Jews are about to become the usual bulls-eye.
Long before DNA the Jews breed their people in a mixture designed to be

there is one fact about the Jews you must understand. On a best practices
scale they have moved us to the future way out of proportion to any other

Reported Security Incidents Across Southern Iraq In 2013
MUSINGS ON IRAQ - 20 hours ago
Southern Iraq has witnessed plenty of violence in 2013, but it pails in
comparison to central and northern Iraq. While a province like Baghdad
might have five to ten attacks per day, some provinces in the south have
that many in a year. Different governorates have also gone through
different experiences. In Babil for example there has been a relentless
wave of attacks mostly aimed at average citizens. Basra has seen a mix of
Al Qaeda in Iraq bombings, and religious, political, and sectarian
violence. Karbala and Najaf have gone through repeated attempts to stir
sectarian tensions... more »

Harry and the Common Core
A couple of nights ago I was at a small gathering where Harry's mom was
responding to comments about how much Harry, now "five and a half" as he is

Oh, he's doing great, says Harry's mom, except for a bit of a dexterity

And how do we know of this problem? It has been pointed out by Harry's
kindergarten teacher when he does his practice tests by clicking with the
mouse pointer. (Unlike most of Tennessee's schools, Harry's Germantown

Hurricane forecasts are worthless
I don't know the methods that folks in NOAA are using to forecast the
number of Atlantic hurricanes and I am not interested in these methods
because they clearly don't work. Pages such as this one (with different
years in the URL) show you tables with the predicted and actual number of
named storms, hurricanes, and major hurricanes for the relevant year.
Let us look at years 2001-2013 and focus on the actual numbers from NOAA in
May. Note that the hurricane season includes months between June and
November and the 2013 season has officially ended last Saturday.

Read Stuff, You Should
Happy Birthday to Damon Berryhill, 50. I mentioned Jamie Moyer recently.
Moyer is a big deal for my larger cohort; Berryhill was a big deal, for
roughly the same reasons, for me personally. Hey, you could do worse. I
mean, if you have to pick a player who you want to have a long, long, long,
career, you could do worse than a professional backup catcher who
switch-hits. Alas, despite a very respectable 1997 season, he didn't get
another shot.

THE ECONOMY IN 2014
Gold has been hit hard by a strengthening US economy.
On 2 December 2013, Gold stood at $1,218 a troy ounce.
Jim O’Neill, former chairman of Goldman Sachs Asset Management, thinks that
the world economy will grow at a faster rate in the next decade than it did
in the last one.
He says that the economic crisis around 2008 was essentially about the USA
consuming too much and saving nothing, while China consumed very little and
saved too much.
He says the USA is now far more competitive and multinationals are now
moving back to the USA.
However, some economists think that the US ... more »
