Yes Virginia, They Really Are Pathetic And Have No Shame
If there’s one thing we know about the left, it they love nothing more than to exploit real-world horror and tragedy in pursuit of their goals. If they can dance on a few graves and bend tragedy to their extant agenda, they will. With the coronavirus, we’re seeing them do it pre-emptively. Everywhere you look, the media is almost giddy over the idea that we could be witnessing a pandemic, the stock market will collapse, public opinion will turn against Trump, and they’ll have something to weaponize against a so-far bulletproof president. They seem to think that, where conspiracies... more »

Bernie Sanders's intellectual sleight-of-hand
I have indicated quite a few times since 2016 my distaste for Bernie Sanders's purported self-identification as a "revolutionary," given his absolute unwillingness to address in any way the extent to which it is the Constitution of 1787 that most truly "rigs" the constitutional order in favor of the status quo. The only two explanation for that refusal is either abject ignorance (and commitment to a simplistic Marxism that looks at any and all formal institutions as mere epiphenomena when compared with the one things that is really important, i.e., class structure) or political cup... more »

How Do High Expectations Change A Classroom
Teachers know that expectations matter. They know that having high expectations in a classroom can both support (“I know you can do this”) and spur (“I’m not going to accept your bare minimum effort”) students. The power of teacher expectations is part of every college’s Teacher 101. But modern education reform has weaponized the term. “The soft bigotry of low expectations,” coined by Michael Gerson for use by Bush II, was a powerful phrase that combined a couple of ugly ideas. It suggested that it wasn’t poverty or underfunded crumbling school buildings or a lack of resources that w... more »

Chang'E-4 Probes 120 Feet Into The Dark Side Of The Moon
The Chang'E-4 mission (CE-4) landed on the eastern floor of the Van Kármán crater, near the Moon's south pole, on Jan. 3, 2019. It deployed its Yutu-2 rover, which uses Lunar Penetrating Radar (LPR) to investigate the underground it roams and found that the subsurface at the CE-4 landing site is much more transparent to radio waves. Due to that, radio signals reached a depth of 40 meters using a 500 MHz frequency - more than three times the depth previously reached by CE-3. This data allowed the researchers to develop an approximate image of the subsurface stratigraphy. read more
