Inside Bloomberg's Very Republican Campaign
I had a great afternoon on Sunday. I heard two inspiring congressional candidates speak at a fundraiser on Bunker Hill, Mike Siegel (TX-10) and Cenk Uygur (CA-25), one of Mike's supporters and a co-host of the event. Both were uplifting and inspiring, as were the other speakers. When I got home the phone was ringing. When I picked it up, it was a very calm, professional voice-- too calm and too professional-- attached to someone who wanted to ask me a few questions about the primary. I quickly realized it was a Bloomberg push poll. Those are very expensive and no other candidates ... more »

Why Pirates Are Broke: These 5 Navies Dominate The 7 Seas
*Kyle Mizokami* *Security, World* Anyone sailing must follow their rules. *Key point: *In wartime, a navy projects naval power in order to deny the enemy the ability to do the same. It’s a universal truth handed down since antiquity: a country with a coastline has a navy. Big or small, navies worldwide have the same basic mission—to project military might into neighboring waters and beyond. The peacetime role of navies has been more or less the same for thousands of years. Navies protect the homeland, keep shipping routes and lines of communication open, show the flag and deter ... more »

The idiocy of politics as horserace
We are being told right now that Bernie Sanders has "won" New Hampshire with approximately 26% of the popular vote. Yes, he is coming in first (apparently), by 2% over Pete Budtigieg. But surely it is at least as significant that 74% of Sanders's New Hampshire neighbors voted against him. And, I say with some regret, given my own support for Elizabeth Warren, that the total vote for Sanders and Warren, the ostensible "progressive" candidates is less than 40%. My own view, for what it is worth, is that Amy Klobachar is the big winner of the primary inasmuch as she should clearly ... more »

Roger Stone's sentence is insane

Why the U.S. Navy Needs At Least 355 Ships
*Thomas Spoehr* *Security, * In future years, however, America must make the hard choices to put the Navy on a solid footing towards achieving the force structure our nation needs. We have done it before, after all. And let’s not forget the stakes: If the U.S. Navy can no longer ensure a free and open global maritime commons, our nation will be less safe. It’s good news, obviously, that Defense Secretary Mark Esper says he is “fully committed” to getting the U.S. Navy up to 355 ships. That number has been in decline for decades. In 1987, the Navy had 594 ships. Today that number... more »

Breastfeeding Alone can Help Prevent Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) in Over 60% of Cases, Study Finds
SIDs or sudden infant death syndrome is a devastating tragedy in the family: a perfectly healthy baby dying unexpectedly; and no scientist has so far being able to find a reason why. There are many theories that are being discussed, immunizations and their associated toxins being one of them, but no conclusive answer has been discovered so far. While the scientific community is looking for answers, SIDs continues to be the leading cause of deaths of children below the age of one; and every year, about 2,000 babies in the U.S. die from SIDS. “A Public Health Disaster” – Notoriously Deadly Arthritis Drug Could Be Back on the Market Again Some Day

Some cases do more damage than the others. The arthritis, anti-inflammatory drug Vioxx by Merck was one of the cases that shook the medical field, raising a lot of questions about drug safety, exposing drug makers’ lies, and highlighting the FDA’s failure to protect consumers.
