By The Time McConnell Drops Dead Or Is Defeated For Reelection, Will Prescription Drugs Cost Any Less?

DownWithTyranny at DownWithTyranny! - 53 seconds ago
*Drug prices are too high for many reasons, but there is just one person blocking a fix: MoscowMitch* I have to admit that Pelosi’s plan to lower drug costs is more progressive than I-- or anyone else-- expected. It certainly isn't the Lloyd Doggett plan she's kept bottled up in committee, but it's a lot closer than anyone thought she would go. If passed-- McConnell will kill it and anything like it-- it would permit Medicare to negotiate with drug makers for reasonable prices on 250 commonly-used and over-priced medicines. The price they come up with isn't just for Medicare users, ... more »

On Wars and Civilization

The major wars are events in which nations test the strength of their politics, culture, and economy. In the last 2500 years, there has not been a single generation (I take a generation as 60 years) in any nation that has not experienced one or more wars. The wars result in massive death and destruction and no sane person would want them, but the question is—could modern civilization have evolved if humanity had not been engaged in an endless series of wars? I think the wars have a natural role to play in human history—their purpose is to destroy the ineffective regimes and free hum... more »

"If you were not cast into the abyss, you would have never groped, reached as far as you could reach, to grasp for anything that you could possibly touch, anything that you could possibly feel brushing against your fingertips! Funny how in the darkness, we come to find the things that we never saw before all the lights departed! It's like someone needed to turn the lights out, to make us find all the things that we never looked for when the lights were on! And it's in that blackness that we wake up to the true light! My friends, curse not the darkness! It has given you many things!... more »
