Pelosi: 'I Think Russia Had a Hand' in Ukraine Scandal
*Chris White* *Politics, Americas* [image: U.S. Capitol in Washington, U.S., September 24, 2019. REUTERS/Kevin Lamarque] Who else will she blame? House Speaker Nancy Pelosi speculated Friday morning that Russia played a significant role in President Donald Trump’s decision to encourage Ukraine to look into former Vice President Joe Biden’s son. Trump’s decision to suggest Ukraine should investigate Biden’s actions in the Eastern European country is an example of the president’s use of a foreign country to intervene in American elections, Pelosi told MSNBC host Joe Scarborough. "A Look to the Heavens"
“Why does the Sombrero Galaxy look like a hat? Reasons include the Sombrero's unusually large and extended central bulge of stars, and dark prominent dust lanes that appear in a disk that we see nearly edge-on. Billions of old stars cause the diffuse glow of the extended central bulge. *Click image for larger size.* Close inspection of the bulge in the above photograph shows many points of light that are actually globular clusters. M104's spectacular dust rings harbor many younger and brighter stars, and show intricate details astronomers don't yet fully understand. The very center o... more »

Chet Raymo, "To Each His Own"
*"To Each His Own"* by Chet Raymo "Since I wrote about Elizabeth Mayer's book "Extraordinary Knowing" a few weeks ago I've been engaged in several discussions about the possibility, or even likelihood, that so-called paranormal phenomena might be real - ESP, remote viewing, communication with the dead, astrology, divinely answered prayers, miracles, and so on, all of which I have in one place or the other dismissed as- ah, bunk. Isn't it presumptuous of science to diss what it doesn't understand? say my critics. Elizabeth Mayer says as much in her book when she quotes Shakespeare's... more »

Now, a new law passed in the State of New York may reveal just how prevalent this problem is within New York state. The Child Victims Act is a new law passed earlier this year that allows survivors of sexual abuse to file civil suits regardless of the statute of limi... more »

*NPR:* *Hong Kong Braces For Massive Weekend Protests* Hong Kong is bracing for more rallies and unrest this weekend as two important anniversaries loom, sparking fears that anti-government protests might once again boil over into violence on the streets. Saturday marks five years since the start of the pro-democracy Umbrella Movement that unsuccessfully sought free and open elections in Hong Kong, a former British colony that reverted to Chinese control in 1997. The movement got its name after activists used umbrellas to protect themselves from police who fired tear gas and peppe... more »
Greta Thunberg and Big-Biz' Climate Charade
*September 28, 2019* (Tony Cartalucci - NEO) - A 16 year old girl is obviously not behind a "global movement" demanding "climate action" from governments. The massive corporate Western media is. And anything the corporate media is behind certainly cannot be described as "grassroots." It is the Western media's daily promotion of this 16 year old that has created "her" movement for her. Her family background of entertainers and performers is particularly interesting in this regard - Greta Thunberg being the daughter of entertainer Malena Ernman and actor Svante Thunberg, and grandda... more »
'No Other Discipline To Impose..."
“Life has no other discipline to impose, if we would but realize it, than to accept life unquestioningly. Everything we shut our eyes to, everything we run away from, everything we deny, denigrate, or despise, serves to defeat us in the end. What seems nasty, painful, evil, can become a source of beauty, joy, and strength, if faced with an open mind. Every moment is a golden one for those who have the vision to recognize it as such.” - Henry Miller

What does the US want from China?
China has the world’s largest economy, bigger than the US economy. Yet I rarely hear stories of the Chinese telling the US to privatize Amtrak, or reform Social Security, or abolish the Ex-Im Bank. In contrast, the US government frequently tells the Chinese how to run their economy, in all sort of ways that go […] The post What does the US want from China? appeared first on Econlib.
