Wall St Journal Gives Misleading Spin To Iraq’s Continuing Struggle To Deal With Money Laundering

A Wealth Tax is Constitutional
Calvin H. Johnson The Constitution, Article I, section 9, clause 4, requires that a “direct tax” must be apportioned among the states by population. Elizabeth Warren has proposed an annual wealth tax, reaching the rate of 3% of wealth for those who have more than a $1 billion of wealth. Warren’s wealth tax would be constitutional. The defining characteristic of a “direct tax,” according to the Founders, is that it is the kind of tax in which apportionment among the states by population would be appropriate and reasonable. If software and sensors designed to prevent crashes actually increased the risk of catastrophe, then the Boeing accidents are another reminder that safety policies can have unintended fatal consequences. *UK: Cambridge opens up extra places for "disadvantaged" students who perform better than expected in their A-levels* *"Disadvantaged" here seems to be code for "black". Last year, 63.4 per cent of Cambridge’s undergraduate intake came from state schools so whites would seem to be doing well already. It is clearly no longer the preserve of "toffs" and products of private schooling* Cambridge University is opening up extra places for disadvantaged students who perform better than expected in their A-levels, in a bid to improve diversity. This summer the university will give out... more »
U.S. cyber attack on Venezuela?

*Air pollution is BAD for you* *One imagines that it is. But how bad? The article below purports to tell us. And their conclusions are a reasonable commentary on their results. An equally reasonable conclusion would be that the effects of air pollution on health are totally trivial. The raw numbers tell it best. After using all sorts of clever statistics to get the numbers up, they found that 8.79 deaths per MILLION could be attributed to air pollution. Is that significant or trivial? I will leave it for readers to judge. Suffice it to say that if we wanted to work o... more »

Why the FTC’s Case Against Qualcomm Protects American Consumers
The future of American semiconductor innovation—and the price of future smartphones—may hinge on what is happening in a San Jose courtroom. In the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, companies including Apple, Blackberry, Ericsson, Intel, LG, MediaTek, Huawei and Samsung have testified on behalf of the Federal Trade Commission’s application of traditional antitrust concepts to rein in practices by Qualcomm that harm consumers, competition, and innovation. And the case has the potential to unleash the full force of competition in the market for 5G technolog... more »

Democrats Can Pile On About What A Nightmare Trump's Budget Is-- But Can't Come Up With One Of Their Own?
If the budget is a statement of values, the Democrats' presumed inability to unite behind one, speaks volumes about a party whose tent is too big to be functional. Trump's DOA budget will never get a vote but his intention of a high increase for the Pentagon and paying for his vanity wall by cutting Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid is all anyone needs to know about his values and his party's values. Trump's obscene $4.7 trillion budget would cut $845 billion from Medicare-- didn't he say he was the only Republican who would never cut that?-- $241 billion from Medicaid and sla... more »

Corbett Report: Green Reaper Demands You Sacrifice The Children To the Cult
*Wow! * *James Corbett's latest video is a demonstration of the insanity inherent in the vile carbon cult.* *The two women on BBC are either incredible actors, insane or are totally mind controlled.* *As a person who spends lots and lots and lots of times outdoors the abundance on our planet is apparent. The yearly renewal brought to us every spring. Thanks to all the carbon available for the plants to grow, green and flourish. Including my vegetable garden. Those same trees and plants then sustain all that lives, including us. Andour children.* *There is something extremely sick in... more »
This makes me feel like a technological dinosaur
As regular readers will be aware, I served in South Africa's armed forces during the 1970's and 1980's, initially full-time and then in reserve status. I traveled in a number of then-current armored vehicles, and was reasonably familiar with their systems. However, the state of the art has advanced so much since then that I don't think I could even begin to take advantage of it. Here's Israeli company Rafael's Suite for Armored Fighting Vehicles. I suppose, to the video game generation, such electronic wizardry in an armored fighting vehicle is not a new concept; but to thos... more »
