*"A Message from the Hopi Elders"* "You have been telling the people that this is the Eleventh Hour. Now you must go back and tell the people that this is The Hour. Here are the things that must be considered: Where are you living? What are you doing? What are your relationships? Are you in right relation? Where is your water? It is time to speak your Truth. "Why Is There So Much Pain and Suffering?"

noreply@blogger.com (Coyote Prime) at Running 'Cause I Can't Fly - 25 minutes ago
"Why Is There So Much Pain and Suffering?" By Fred Pauser "Mother Teresa said, “Suffering is a gift of God.” Well, it may be true that suffering tends to build character, but it also sometimes builds bitterness and criminals. In any case, we would naturally prefer to do without it, especially the extreme forms of it. We can derive much toward answering the question from a basic knowledge of the evolution of life. Ernst Mayr succinctly summed up the process of natural selection: “Natural selection is a two-step process: (1) variations produced, and (2) variations sorted, with the e... more »

MAJOR RIGHT-WING MEDIA OUTLETS CAN'T KEEP UP WITH THE RACISM OF THEIR AUDIENCES

Steve M. at No More Mister Nice Blog - 30 minutes ago
The firing of Roseanne Barr appears to be one of the rare moments when even the conservative press acknowledges obvious racism. When was the last time this happened? The Dylann Roof massacre? On Fox, the hosts of *The Five* were critical of Barr: The hosts of Fox News’ *The Five* opened with a segment blasting Roseanne Barr for the racist tweet that got her show cancelled. Russia's Navy is Deadly (But Why Doesn’t It Have Lots of Aircraft Carriers?)

Robert Farley at The National Interest - 35 minutes ago
*Robert Farley* *Security, Europe* Here is the answer. *Russian defense planners often announce projects as a means of gaining resources and prestige, rather than as part of a plan to build anything in particular. At one point, President Dmitri Medvedev suggested that Russia would build and operate six aircraft carriers by 2025; obviously, that’s not going to happen. But there is an existing plan for the Project 23000E Shtorm carrier, a 100,000-ton nuclear-powered supercarrier employing EMALS catapults and a variety of other modern technologies. The carrier would presumably fly... more »

The Navy's Greatest Fear? Russia Wanted to Build a Super Aircraft Carrier

Paul Richard Huard at The National Interest - 35 minutes ago
*Paul Richard Huard* *Security, * The story of a dream denied. *Currently, Russia has only one carrier—the significantly smaller Admiral Kuznetsov—launched in 1985. Multiple mechanical problems have plagued the ship ever since, and she doesn’t go anywhere without an accompanying tug vessel. But there was a logic behind the Ulyanovsk. James Holmes, a professor of strategy at the U.S. Naval War College, explained that the Soviets wanted to create a defensive “blue belt” in their offshore waters.* Had she ever sailed, the Soviet supercarrier *Ulyanovsk* would have been a naval be... more »

Death Match: Russia's 'Stealth' Su-57 vs. Su-35S Flanker-E (Who Wins?)

Dave Majumdar at The National Interest - 35 minutes ago
*Dave Majumdar* *Security, * Which plane is better? The Sukhoi Su-35S Flanker-E, an advanced derivative of the original Soviet-era Su-27, is the most capable fighter Moscow has ever fielded. While the Su-35 is primarily designed to be an air superiority fighter, it also has a potent air to ground strike ability. The Su-35S program has its origins in the Soviet Air Force’s program to develop a modernized Flanker derivative that was to be called the Su-27M. However, with the 1991 collapse of the Soviet Union and the subsequent economic meltdown and chaos in a newly independent Ru... more »

The Unionist Politics of Abortion

In response to pressure from the welcome result of last week's referendum, and facing Labour's calls to extend the law on the mainland to the province, all she can do is mumble that it's a devolved matter. This is nothing more than an excuse for inaction; the North doesn't have a government, power sharing has collapsed and direct rule from Westminster is the order of the day. Notre Dame Graduation 2017 and 2009

Norma at Collecting My Thoughts - 8 hours ago
A few dozen students walked out on Vice President Pence at the Notre Dame Graduation in 2017. It's their right to leave history in the making. Obama also created an historic moment in May 2009 and used a Notre Dame graduation to slam the Catholic Church by announcing embryonic stem cell research would continue on our tax dollar, undoing Bush's executive order (and no one sued him). He was too late; the research had moved so quickly during the Bush years we no longer needed that death trap. Despite its availability (was never illegal or banned) embryonic stem cell research had never ... more »
