Not Every Trump Voter Is A Freeloader-- But The Most Economically Productive Areas All Voted Against Him
According to a Nov. 10th poll conducted by Pollfish, 23% of Trump supporters would have voted for Democratic hopeful, Bernie Sanders, based on his commitment to fight for the middle class and against large corporations. The same poll shows some regret already. 32% of Trump voters thought he wouldn't actually win and now 11% say if they had it to do over again, they wouldn't vote for him! When asked to describe the reason they chose to cast a vote for so flawed a candidate, "better of two evil," "America needs change" and "I voted against Hillary" were some of the most popular sent... more »
Erdogan pleads Guilty to Illegal Syrian Aggression: Is this a Plea Bargain with Russia????

Turkey To Assassinate Assad – World Prepares For World War 3
Recep Tayyip Erdogan has authorised troops in Syria to assassinate President Bashar Assad, which experts have warned will spark a war between Turkey and Russia. “We entered [Syria] to end the rule of the tyrant al-Assad who terrorizes with state terror. [We didn’t enter] for any other reason,” Erdogan announced at the first Inter-Parliamentary Jerusalem Platform Symposium in Istanbul. Russia has previously warned that any nation attempting to remove Assad will be met by the full force of the Russian military. With Turkey being a full member of NATO, the organisation is bound by A... more »
There would be some question in my mind about NATO being bound to aid Turkish aggression - though it might well choose to do so. Erdogan is not just being nuts. The Kurdish question caused No Fly Zones in Iraq before Desert Storm, the Kurds being a sizable population in Turkey as well as an quasi independent country these days. PKK terrorists/freedom fighters/insurrectionists fighting against empire for Kurdish independence have been a destabilizing force inside Turkey for decades...part of why Saddam Hussein was originally put in power in Iraq : to keep the peace by keeping the Kurds down.
Isn't life odd. Do you believe in coincidence ?
In one of the most chilling UFO-related incidents of the year, a series of ominous lights have been seen by numerous witnesses in Turkey Sunday night, fuelling fears that a possible extraterrestrial attack might soon be taking place. The mysterious objects, which were very similar in appearance to the famous Phoenix Lights incident back in 1997, have been sighted by witnesses all over the Middle Eastern country, resulting in the hashtag #ufoattacktoturkey immediately trending on Twitter. What was particularly disturbing, however, was the fact that Twitter immediately started removing photos and tweets related to the incident hours after the hashtag trended.
Despite the apparent Twitter censorship, however, the incident has captured the attention and interest of the whole world, with thousands of netizens reposting and sharing images and videos on social media. UFO analysts have weighed in on the mass sighting, with many expressing apprehension due to the content of some videos that were uploaded by witnesses online. While some of the accounts from Turkey simply describe a conventional, harmless UFO sighting, others seemed to suggest that something far more ominous was taking place.

Online Porn Banned In UK As Digital Economy Bill Passes

The Orwellian new rules will prohibit most sex acts from being depicted in videos and pictures online, and any other type of sex will require strict age verification before they are shown to the user. The Digital Economy Bill has been criticized as making the internet in the UK more restricted than China. This is becoming like shooting fish in a barrel and in the last episode they provided so many set ups that I couldn’t resist just one more commentary on the show. But first, I missed a bet with the week three show entitled, “Treasure Found.” This was a lie since they found no treasure. Oh, sure, they were shown a silver bar that seemed to have been created by the Jesuits, but there was nothing to prove that it had a thing to do with the Treasure of the Trinity. Then they paid the black market guy a thousand bucks to tell them where it came from and he pointed them to Argentina. Je... more »

India’s currency chaos
[image: India-Currency] So what’s going on with the Indian government’s crackdown on cash? Their sudden decision to demonetise 87% of the country’s currency (notes of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 all in people’s personal possession) is as historic a decision as it is destructive --- messing up the country’s financial system; denying wages to the millions of day labourers paid in cash; destroying the perishable stocks of farmers and vendors suddenly unable to sell fresh produce – not to mention that close to 50 deaths have been attributed to the sudden demonetisation. This has affected ... more »
Corrupt Conservative Giveaway For Drug Corporations Coming Down The Pike

In any case, we would naturally prefer to do without it, especially the extreme forms of it. We can derive much toward answering the question from a basic knowledge of the evolution of life. LOSERS: For starters, a bit of comic relief!
*TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 29, 2016Part 2—Rachel keeps selling the car(s):* We liberals just lost a presidential election to the craziest person who ever sought the office. How did we get to be such losers? Just to establish a bit of a framework, consider Paul Krugman's most recent column. Yesterday morning, Krugman penned a valuable piece about the phenomenon known as "self-dealing." Focusing on education nominee Betsy DeVos, he discussed the types of grifters being selected for service under Trump. He described the "self-dealing" in which they, like their boss, will likely engage. As h... more »
“What It Feels Like To Be Homeless For The Holidays In America”
*“What It Feels Like To Be Homeless For The Holidays In America”* By Michael Snyder “Could you imagine spending the holidays in a homeless shelter, in a tent city surrounded by drug addicts and prostitutes, or in a sleeping bag on the cold, hard streets of an urban jungle? Unfortunately, that is what real life looks like for an increasing number of Americans. Most of the time when we think of “homeless people”, the image that comes into our minds is one of a grizzled old man asking for some spare change, but the truth is that vast numbers of women and children in our country do not ... more »

fidel castro, 1926-2016
More than any ruler I can think of, Fidel Castro defies our insistence on seeing leaders as solely either good or evil. As this excellent assessment in Social Worker (UK) puts it, "History must judge him both as the freedom fighter whose defiance humiliated US imperialism and as the ruler of a repressive, unequal society." Castro was an inspiration to freedom fighters the world over, including Nelson Mandela. Mandela, we should remember, was formerly branded as a communist terrorist, and later lionized as a cuddly hero, without having changed his tactics or beliefs. I'm told that c... more »

Playing The Victim
The present crop of conservatives are a strange lot. They are, Scott Reid writes, nothing like their predecessors: Conservatives used to campaign on rugged individualism and the projection of strength. Those of the modern breed are a whimpering litter of easily wounded weaklings. And they just can’t shut up about it. Exhibit A is the President-Elect of the United States: Almost daily, Donald Trump takes to Twitter to complain about the slights and insults inflicted upon him and, by extension, his millions of supporters. I was heartened to discover through RNZ podcasts that Frederic Bastiat’s Broken Window Fallacy made an appearance back on the 17th. Shamabeel Eaqub was there to begin a regular appearance on the afternoon programme talking economics, and for his first visit he talked about the fallacy of disaster economics: *The idea there is an upside to natural disasters – that they are good for the economy - is ‘a figment of our imagination’, economist Shamubeel Eaqub says. We shouldn’t celebrate natural disasters or war or things that are destructive because ultimately what we find i... more »
No new parliamentary building for MPs, says NOT PC: Make room downtown instead
[image: Parliament-560x317] Some years ago back when Rodney Hide was busting perks rather than enjoying them, he busted the government’s plans for a new parliamentary building that was going to cost taxpayers millions. (This may be the only service he ever performed for the country.) The plan to give hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to Wellington builders and interior designers didn’t disappear like his morals, however, it just slumbered. And with the lease on Bowen House soon to expire, Sleeping Beauty has been dusted off – this time with the boast that it will cost ... more »
A Russian Reset?
U.S. President-elect Donald Trump (L) and Russian President Vladimir Putin © Reuters *Michael Crowley, Politico:* *A Russia reset? Maybe not yet.* As Moscow talks up a possible Putin-Trump meeting, officials in Congress and the Pentagon are ready to block any attempt to appease the Russian president. After a phone call between Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin days after the U.S. election, Russian media buzzed that Putin might host Trump this winter to kick off what the Kremlin described as their joint effort to "normalize ties” between the U.S. and Russia. Which Campaign Promises Will Trump Keep?
Many Trump voters have 2-digit IQs and lack the ability to think abstractly. That's the way it goes. But plenty of Trump voters were as intelligent, more or less, as anyone else. As they cast their ballots for him (and, in some cases, against Hillary) they knew Trump is a predator, pillager and plunderer. They are so consumed with hatred for the establishment that when they voted for him, they didn't imagine they and their families might be the victims of his and his cronies' pillaging and plundering. Some may have been chanting "lock her up" as a fun game-- but a helluva lot were... more »

"What surrounds the florid Rosette nebula? To better picture this area of the sky, the famous flowery emission nebula on the far right has been captured recently in a deep and dramatic wide field image that features several other sky highlights. Designated NGC 2237, the center of the Rosette nebula is populated by the bright blue stars of open cluster NGC 2244, whose winds and energetic light are evacuating the nebula's center. Below the famous flower, a symbol of Valentine's Day, is a column of dust and gas that appears like a rose's stem but extends hundreds of light years. *Click... more »

*Reuters:* *Iranian vessel made 'unsafe' action against U.S. helicopter: officials* An Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard vessel pointed its weapon at a U.S. military helicopter in the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, two U.S. defense officials told Reuters on Monday, an action they described as "unsafe and unprofessional." The incident is the latest in a series of similar actions by Iranian vessels this year, but the first reported since Donald Trump won the U.S. presidential election earlier this month. A note from the writer: Google has screwed up the Commenting Function. *sigh*
[image: misc_DSC03397] Dear readers, Google has once again "updated" one of its products. As always with a Google update, Blogger is now uglier, less functional, has a less useful and more crowded interface, and requires more clicks to get anything done. The result for you is this: in old Blogger, when I opened up the page for my blog, unpublished comments were right there for me to moderate. Now when I open Blogger, I have to make additional clicks to get to the unpublished comments. This means I might forget I should even be looking for comments. I am quite absent-minded and keep ... more »
Despite cashing all the chips on the F35 a major collatrall damage blind spot revealed
The Chinese and Russians are cheating at air war. They have 20 ft long hypersonic cannons that work beyond visual range and we have 12 ft ethical weapons meant to be used in an old world dogfight. Shooting down anything that moves. The Soviets and the Chinese are all up and the USA has nothing on the table. It seems that silo vision has no spending limit. In plain speak, collateral damage in the air is so much less than on the ground, except for the Hindenburg effect, which seems to cripple Hydrogen even as we speak of the need to find alternative energy that is practical.

Even Moneyball players find Math is Hard
Its very clear that Moneyball was a great movie but despite all the math these guys are barbies and they are pulling on the wrong string. I have been cold and cold on Westworld, it deals with ideas dead as the Terminator, mowing grass well clipped. However in this bionic age I can only hope it stirs some non connected thought in the Yutes of today. I still stay fuck robots will make most women extinct. I am so glad I was never a gladiator in the future world.

Could Hillary Clinton Still Become President?
Russian media examines whether there is still a chance of a Hillary Clinton White House. US Electoral College voters are set to elect the US president and vice president on December 19. The meeting of electors could find President-elect Donald Trump unfit for office, opening a path for Hillary Clinton to the White House. Sputnik reports: The November 8 presidential election in the US was not, in fact, the final point of the election process of the US head of state. Back in the 18th century, the Founding Fathers of the US prudently excluded any chances for unfit people to become th... more »
Indonesia: Woman Caned In Public For Being In Close Proximity To Man
In Indonesia men and women are being flogged in public for breaking strict Islamic laws. A 34-year-old woman screamed in agony Monday as she was caned in Indonesia’s Aceh province, where punishment for breaking Islamic Sharia law is severe. The woman was flogged in front of a cheering crowd for spending time in close proximity with a man that was not her husband. Is There a Climate Science Consensus?
Is there any level on which a climate consensus can be said to exist? Only at the most obvious level, which is that everyone agrees that the climate changes. The realists know that the climate has always changed, drastically over millions of years of alternating Ice Ages and Warm Periods and within a narrower range over the warm last 12,000 years, with such periods as the Minoan Warm Period, the Roman Warming, the Medieval Warm Period, and the present warm period. The catastrophic man-made global warming alarmists claim that the climate was very stable prior to the Industrial Age... more »
Paul Nuttall and Working Class Voters
Who's that knight on a white charger? Why, it's none other than Paul Nuttall, Eddie Hitler look-a-like and the latest leader of our purple friends in the United Kingdom Independence Party. His election by a landslide suggests a desire on the part of the party's much-reduced membership (of which, 15,500 out of 33k cast a ballot) to put the recent period of fracas and farce behind it. But more significantly, and unlike the hapless Diane James, Tory-in-exile Suzanne Evans, and homosexual donkey anecdote man, Nuttall is the man with a plan. Some trends are more equal than others
As already noted by some of you, my ('oh, when will I ever learn?') hopes that BBC Trending would be nice and impartial and actually report the very-much-trending #forallhisflaws and #trudeaueulogies hashtags that swept across Twitter over the weekend, mocking Jeremy Corbyn and Justin Trudeau's statements on the death of El Comandante, were (inevitably) dashed. BBC Trending has simply ignored them. Goff dreaming up new ways to pick your pocket
I can’t help thinking Phil Goof’s focus as mayor is somewhat the same as his predecessor’s: picking your pocket for more millions on his pet projects. Yesterday’s brainfart: dunning tourists while pledging to “peg” rate rises to only 2.5 percent a year. Len Brown pledged the same thing with rates–even the same number—and we saw how well that peg worked, didn’t we. Given the way rates and debt both exploded under Pants-Down’s round, any pledge to “keep rate increases below inflation” now is like a strangler promising only to suffocate you more slowly. And that’s even if the pol... more »
Ayn Rand predicted an American slide toward fascism
*Are fascism and socialism opposites? No, observed Ayn Rand, in practice they “are only superficial variations of the same monstrous theme,” with as little difference to those under their boot as there was between Castro and Batista. The two systems differ only in one technical respect, making socialism “in this respect [only] the more honest of the two.” Contrary to many conservative commentators during the 1960s, Rand maintained that America was drifting toward fascism, not socialism, and that this slippery slope was virtually inevitable in a mixed economy. In this g... more »

When I wrote in that last post... Read in full the statement seems reasonable and morally coherent, doesn't it? The BBC News website, however (at least to my eyes), made it sound as if Donald Trump was being 'Donnie Darkmouth' again, talking ill of the dead - and a very elderly man to boot! - so soon after the event. ...I was referring back to Mark Mardell's coining of the phrase 'Donnie Darkmouth' (referencing 'Donnie Darko') to describe Donald Trump in campaign mode. The Democrats' 2016 Strategic Failure-- Closeup: Texas And Pennsylvania
The world's worst electoral strategist famously said, not very long ago, "For every blue-collar Democrat we lose in western Pennsylvania, we will pick up two moderate Republicans in the suburbs in Philadelphia, and you can repeat that in Ohio and Illinois and Wisconsin." Unfortunately that was the overall Clinton campaign strategy: let Trump have the white working class deplorables while we harvest votes from rich, white suburbanites who have tended to vote Republican in the past. It worked out badly because many Republicans in Pennsylvania (as well as Ohio and Wisconsin; God only ... more »

Understanding KIPP Model Charter Schools: Part 14
Below is Part 14 from my book, *Work Hard, Be Hard: Journeys through "Excuses" Teaching*. Earlier parts can be found at this blog by searching on the title of the blog entry, followed by the part number. *Chapter 14* *A Model Whose Time Has Past* Since its beginning in 1994, the KIPP Model has focused on getting economically disadvantaged students to and through college. As the first KIPP schools were grades 5-8, the long-term goal of college makes some sense as a motivator, even though higher education means high school for most fifth graders, KIPP or no KIPP. Most often colle... more »
Nov. 28: Castro and our contemptible news media.
Today's irvinig press has a striking example of propaganda presented as news. ( That's actually quite common in our news services.) This one is a story about Cuban exiles in Miami celebrating the death of Castro. It's about how the exiles long for a return to a Cuba that is free and democratic, etc. That seems natural? Well, it would. but.... The Cuban exiles in Miami are people who lived happily in a Cuba that was ruled by a dictator who murdered and tortured. How come they didn't leave then? Answer - they had no quarrel with a dictator who murdered and tortured. Many of them... more »

Russia Unveils Nuke Train To Terrify NATO
Russia has tested a new high speed stealth nuke train that is designed to be a ‘nightmare’ for NATO. The trains carry powerful nuclear weapons and a launcher in the belly of one of their standard looking carriages and are constantly hurtling around Russia mingling with regular trains running on standard rail gauge. Daily Star reports: The trains can be stopped at a moments notice and deploy massive nuclear missile launchers as seen in this chilling test footage. Sounding like something out of a James Bond film – the nuke trains have taken a step into reality with a successful test... more »
