First Thoughts on Pulp Cthulhu
*Pulp Chtulhu* was originally announced for "summer 2002" and was to have supported both d20 and BRP *Call of Cthulhu*, this supplement for *Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition* is at last available, at least in electronic form. With a Mythos game appearing as a likelihood this autumn, I've been flipping through its electronic pages. I'm not yet ready to give it a full review, but I've had enough time to get some basic impressions. As a supplement, *Pulp Cthulhu* provides a number of dials to decide just how pulpy one wants his or her game to be. Off the top of my head, the big difference... more »

Isn’t a mental disorder, after all, an impairment or a distortion in thought or perception? This is what we tend to think, and for most of modern psychology's history, the experts have agreed; realistic perceptions have been considered essential to good mental health. More recently, however, research has arisen that challenges this common-sense notion. In 1988, psychologists Shelly Ta... more »

Note that both these are rigorously time independent. However, we are not trying to give you a headache. What this means is that life was initiated by spirit forms who themselves were... more »

*Whom to believe?* *Some interesting excerpts below from a long article that spends a lot of time looking at old philosophical questions. The author does make the point that decisions on some matters of alleged truth are easier to arrive at than others. And I think global warming is an example of that. Whenever we find a fixed point to attach and to fasten ourselves, it shifts and leaves us; and if we follow it, it eludes our grasp, slips past us, and vanishes for ever. Nothing stays for us. This is our natural condition, most contrary to our inclination; we burn with desires to find solid ground and an ultima... more »
"The Legend of the Starfish"
*"The Legend of the Starfish"* Author Unknown "A vacationing businessman was walking along a beach when he saw a young boy. Along the shore were many starfish that had been washed up by the tide and were sure to die before the tide returned. The boy was walking slowly along the shore and occasionally reached down and tossed the beached starfish back into the ocean. The businessman, hoping to teach the boy a little lesson in common sense, walked up to the boy and said, “I have been watching what you are doing, son. You have a good heart, and I know you mean well, but do you realize ...more »
"Compassion and Enabling"
"Compassion and Enabling" by admin "Sometimes there is a very blurry line between feeling and expressing compassion, and enabling someone. Showing compassion is giving someone space and understanding so they can work through their predicament whilst remaining at a healthy emotional distance. This healthy emotional distance can be hard to judge in close knit relationships such as marriage and families. For should one fall over the edge of compassion and into the field of pity, neither party will benefit. Pity serves no one in relation to creating the desired changes within relations... more »

Click to enlarge or look for large image on the link. Each of the three books of Dante's "Divine Comedy" ends with the same words: "the stars." The Inferno concludes with distant stars glimpsed through the narrow exit of hell. "We emerged," says the poet, "and saw the stars." The Poet: Maya Angelou, "When Great Trees Fall"
*"When Great Trees Fall"* "When great trees fall, rocks on distant hills shudder, lions hunker down in tall grasses, and even elephants lumber after safety. When great trees fall in forests, small things recoil into silence, their senses eroded beyond fear. When great souls die, the air around us becomes light, rare, sterile. We breathe, briefly. Our eyes, briefly, see with a hurtful clarity. Our memory, suddenly sharpened, examines, gnaws on kind words unsaid, promised walks never taken. Great souls die and our reality, bound to them, takes leave of us. Our souls, dependent upon their... more »

Exploding Batteries or a Secret Copy of the Necronomicon?
Sure Samsung claims the batteries are overheating and causing their phones to melt... But isn't it just as likely that some cultist burned a copy of the *Necronomicon *into all Galaxy Note 7 phones? I've been getting my brain back into a Cthulhu state of mind (I guess one can do that by failing a SAN check). One of our possible games is a 21st century Delta Green game, dealing with a top secret organization dedicated to fighting the Cthulhu Mythos. One interesting exercise when dealing with a modern take on the Mythos is finding a conspiracy explanation for news stories. As I rece... more »

When it comes to Hillary, Paul Waldman notes, a special standard applies as to what "raises questions"
*You can find the piece to which Paul's directing us here.* *"If you as a journalist are going to say that something 'raises questions,' and if you know the answer to those questions, you have to say that, too. So in this case, the question the Band email raises is, 'Did an aide to Bill Clinton get a diplomatic passport from Hillary Clinton's staff when she was Secretary of State, something he was not entitled to?' The answer is — and pay attention to make sure you grasp this answer in all its complexity — No."* *-- Paul Waldman, in a WaPo post today,* "Here’s a tale of two scandal... more »
Tonight's Movie Is 'Go Tell The Spartans'
*From **Wikipedia:* Go Tell the Spartans is a 1978 American war film directed by Ted Post, starring Burt Lancaster, and based on Daniel Ford's 1967 novel Incident at Muc Wa,[1] about U.S. Army military advisors during the early part of the Vietnam War in 1964, a time when Ford was a correspondent in Vietnam for The Nation. The film's title is from Simonides's epitaph to the three hundred soldiers who died fighting Persian invaders at Thermopylae, Greece: "Go tell the Spartans, stranger passing by, that here, obedient to their laws, we lie." Clinton Had Cell Phones Smashed With Hammers To Destroy Evidence
The Federal Bureau of Investigation was unable to access any of the cell phones Hillary Clinton used while she was Secretary of State and now we know why – she had her staff smash them with a hammer. According to newly released FBI documents, the investigation into Clinton’s use of a personal email server was unable to obtain potentially important evidence from the eight cell phones she used while Secretary of State. Justin Cooper, a Department of State aide, recalled at least two occasions when he “destroyed” the secretary of state’s old Blackberry cell phones, according to FBI doc...more »

*Change! Change!! Change!!! By Rufus (Deputy Editor, NF News)* Have a look at the above picture. Is this one of Barack Hussein Obama’s campaign posters? Maybe it belongs to Bill Clinton, who also pledged to bring about Change when standing for election. No, this image belongs not to an American shyster, but to a British one. Wilthsire Swastika Crop Circle ‘Not Nazi Symbol’
A crop circle in the shape of a huge ‘Nazi’ swastika appeared in a farmer’s field this week in Wilthsire, England. Experts say the crop circle is not a Nazi symbol but an ancient sign of peace given to earthlings by extraterrestrial beings. The BBC reports: When the 180 ft wide formation was spotted in a field in Beckhampton earlier this week, the farmer was reported to have concerns about its potentially sinister connections. Now the International Raelian Movement, which believes humans were created by extraterrestrial beings, has dispelled that idea. Raelian guide Thomas Kaenzig s... more »
Clinton Calls For A Renewal Of Iran Sanctions Act
Hillary Clinton has called for US Congress to renew the Iran Sanctions Act, without adding additional measures to it. Originally passed in 1996, The Iran Sanctions Act (ISA) is set to expire in December. Clinton spokesman Jesse Lehrich told The Hill newspaper on Thursday that “Hillary Clinton supports a clean reauthorization of the Iran Sanctions Act and believes Congress should get this done in short order when they return from recess.” Press TV reports: “She has always made clear that while the historic deal passed last year represents a crucial step forward toward preventing Ira... more »
Trump And Ford
Canadians may like to believe that Americans would never elect Donald Trump. But Mitchell Anderson reminds his readers that Canada has already had its Trump. His name was Rob Ford: The success of Trump and Ford are similar in that they rely on an ongoing media circus, incomparable name recognition and an alienated electorate. Both tout business expertise over political experience — Ford was no billionaire but publically played on his part ownership of the family label business. And both politicians enable their supporters by making it respectable to indulge in our ugliest instinct... more »
The Corrupted Democratic Party Follows The Republican Party Further And Further To The Right
This morning, we quoted GOP billionaire Mike Fernandez, from his OpEd endorsing Hillary Clinton, that party loyalty should never come before cores values and principles: "No longer can we hide behind the excuse that party loyalty is paramount, and that a bad candidate of our own is always better than any candidate of theirs. Blind loyalty in this case is the ultimate definition of disloyalty to our beliefs." Gauis mentioned to me that any #BernieOrBust true believer could have written the same thing.
