“In this crowded starfield spanning some 3 degrees within the high flying constellation Cygnus, the eye is drawn to the Cocoon Nebula. *"Food Discoveries for Brain Fitness"* by Trevorponder "Eating a nutrient-dense breakfast has long been touted as a way to boost the brain’s memory and creativity. Now, Agricultural Research Service studies are showing that eating a healthful diet over a lifetime can improve the condition of the brain as people reach their twilight years. “Dementia” is a general term for a loss of memory and other mental abilities that is severe enough to interfere with daily life. It is caused by physical changes in the brain. While Alzheimer’s disease is the most common type of dementia, there a... more »

Many of us long to find a spiritual teacher or guru. "Do We Really Want War with Russia?"
*"Do We Really Want War with Russia?"* By Eric S. Margolis "War with Russia appears increasingly likely as the US and its NATO satraps continue their military provocations of Moscow. As dangers mount, our foolish politicians should all be forced to read, and then re-read, Prof. Christopher Clark’s magisterial book, ‘The Sleepwalkers: How Europe Went to War in 1914.’ What is past increasingly appears prologue. Prof. Clark carefully details how small cabals of anti-German senior officials in France, Britain and Russia engineered World War I, a dire conflict that was unnecessary, idio... more »

In June 2014, the Pentagon conducted a “table top” exercise– a sort of war game between Russia and NATO. The scenario was Russian pressure on NATO member Estonia and Latvia. Would NATO be able to defend those countries? “The results were dispiriting,” Julia Ioffe writes in "Foreign Policy." *"Polls: Trump ONE STATE From Being President”* By Ben Shapiro "There was a time when Hillary Clinton’s team believed she would win every swing state, many by double digits. That time has passed. According to today’s Washington Post, the Clinton team is now “pessimistic” about holding Iowa and Ohio, and they believe Florida and North Carolina will be close. Right now, the latest polls have Donald Trump ahead in all four states. If he were to win those four states, as well as Nevada, he would be one state away from winning the presidency. Waaaaah! Grifters Whine about "Prolife" Cheapskates
This is amusing. Fetus-freak grifters complain about anti-choice cheapskates. (Bold mine, italics in original.) The number of Americans who self-identify as pro-life is very high, and most of them are philanthropic. In fact, about sixty million adults who give to some sort of cause also share a pro-life worldview. However, only about *one in six* of those generous adults engage financially in efforts to end abortion. And among those who *do* support the cause monetarily, the estimated contribution per adult is *less than one hundred dollars per year* . More whinging: These ardent s... more »
Understanding Bell Curves at Age 11 - Math from D&D

Yesterday's Elections In Russia And Germany Seemed A Little Trumpy
There were no surprises out of the Russian parliamentary "elections" Sunday. They plan them that way. Putin's party, United Russia, won over half the seats in the Duma. If there was any news at all, it's that turnout was lighter than expected-- less than 40% (compared to around 60% in the last parliamentary election). Even the "opposition" parties vote with Putin when he tells them to. The Liberal Democratic Party came in second with 15.1%, the Communists third with 14.9% and Just Russia, a center-left party was fourth with 6.4%. Parties that actually do oppose Putin failed to get... more »

Momentum is Nothing Like Militant
Asked whether Momentum should be compared with Militant, the rapidly diminishing Owen Smith replied "Creating a big 'M' at the front of their name should give the game away." He went on to argue Momentum is a party within a party, an outfit organising around its priorities, personnel, and policies. *He could almost be talking about Progress*. Except, of course, Momentum doesn't publish its own magazine, nor is it an "unaccountable faction dominated by a secretive billionaire", as one of its leading lights described his organisation a year ago. Hillary’s Server Guy Admits He Was Told To Hide Evidence From FBI
A major discovery that has dismantled Hillary Clinton’s lies to the FBI regarding her use of a private email server has been made, proving the Clinton team broke the law – and most crucially, that they had “intent.” A researcher named Katica uncovered an archived Reddit thread started by Paul Combetta in 2014 who – at the time – was requesting technical advice on how to strip a “VIP (VERY VIP)” email address from archives stored on a server he had “full access to“. They show that secretive NSA kill-capture operations in the Middle East have been developed and initiated from inside the base’s heavily guarded perimeter wire.

He talked about 9/11 and, unusually for such an uncontroversial programme, used the opportunity to criticise George Dubya Bush for using the phrase 'war on terror'. It was, he said, "controversial...especially for many Muslims, which has also had great cost to diverse indivi... more »
Does The Democratic Party Still Stand For Working Families? That Depends How You Define "Democratic Party"
Many of us are watching the clock tick down to November 8, election day. But millions of American workers have their eyes set a few weeks further down the calendar to December 1 when a Department of Labor rule kicks in that will double the salary threshold-- from from $23,660 to $47,476-- at which workers get overtime pay for overtime work. Republicans, of course, are up in arms. But so is the Democratic wing of the Republicans Party. Four of the worst Blue Dogs, ringleader Kurt Schrader (OR) and fellow conservatives, Henry Cuellar (TX), Collin Peterson (MN) and Jim Cooper (TN), a... more »
The Gang That Couldn't Bomb Straight
I'm not talking about the mad bomber whose incendiary explosive devices have luckily killed nobody since he (or they) started planting them willy-nilly over the weekend in dumpsters and on fun-run routes and around tourist spots in the Greater Metropolitan Area. I'm talking about the inept bombers of the United States military establishment. Over the same weekend, American armed forces "mistakenly" killed and wounded at least a hundred Syrian and Afghan soldiers in two separate oopsies. But these bombers could not possibly be described as terrorists. They're the good guys. They have...more »
The benefits from geniuses
Other people—wherever they are—give us benefits even if we never meet them. Even if we don’t even know they exist. Even if they’re from the other side of the planet—or from centuries before we were born. It’s all part of the social cooperation of the market, in which we can all enjoy the many benefits of genius wherever *we* are. One of the many blessings of the division-of-labour society that the market makes possible is how it allows us all to benefit from the existence of these geniuses (genii?). “It makes it possible” explains economist George Reisman, “for geniuses to spe...more »

*Sarkozy sparks storm over claims man 'not sole cause' of climate change* Nicolas Sarkozy was accused of "dragging France 15 years backwards" on climate for insisting that man is not "the sole cause" of global warming. The 61-year-old ex-president is on the campaign trail ahead of primaries in November in his Republicans party, and opinion polls suggest he has closed the gap with the current favorite, Alain Juppé. On Wednesday night, in a speech at a business institute, Mr Sarkozy said: "We had a conference on climate (the historic COP 21 summit in Paris earlier in December in whi... more »

U.S. Treasury Wired Money To Iran Twice Undercutting President Obama's Claims That The U.S. Could Not Because Of U.S. Law
*Politico*:* U.S. wire payments to Iran undercut Obama* The United States made at least two separate payments to the Iranian government via wire transfer within the last 14 months, a Treasury Department spokesman confirmed Saturday, contradicting explanations from President Barack Obama that such payments were impossible. Responding to questions at an Aug. 4 press conference about a $400 million payment delivered in cash to the Iranian government, Obama said, “[T]he reason that we had to give them cash is precisely because we are so strict in maintaining sanctions and we do not ha...more »

German Chancellor Angela Merkel Admits That She Would Turn Back The Clock On Refugee Policy

Nick meets Jez
The 8.10 spot on this morning's *Today *was given over to a Nick Robinson report from a pro-Jeremy Corbyn rally at the weekend. Nick, who's on record as having agreed with the Corbynistas that the BBC *has *shown bias against their leader, gave the chanting 'Jez We Can' crowd at the rally a very generous hearing. He then had an informal interview with Jez himself, even allowing Mr Corbyn to be sarcastic (in his rather leaden way) at the BBC's expense. Kellyanne Conway rules Chuck Todd!
*MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 2016Sunday, bloody Sunday:* We knew Kellyanne Fitzpatrick the tiniest tad back in the 1990s. Today she's Kellyanne Conway. Yesterday, she massacred Chuck Todd on Meet the Press. Based on clips from other shows, it seems it was one of the bloodiest Sundays, journalism-wise, since the advent of the Sunday shows back at the dawn of time. But at any rate, when Kellyanne met Chuck, the result was unvarnished slaughter. We'll plan to discuss the encounter tomorrow. A generous person might want to say that our seven- and eight-figure corporate broadcasters have n... more »

Songs of Praise marks 9/11
And now for Songs of Praise on 11 September, which marked 9/11. Sally Magnussen's introduction ran as follows: 15 years ago today the world changed forever, the day we now call '9/11'. Terrorists flew planes in the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon. For all its shocking audacity 9/11 wasn't a one-off and its been followed by an increasing number of terrorist atrocities. But amid the horror there are stories of hope, and I'm in Central London to find them. Her narration later continued in the same vein: Terror attacks can effect anyone. That's what's so terrifying. The Syrian military says “armed terrorist groups” repeatedly violated the cease-fire that came into effect last week and used it to mobilize and arm, while attacking government-held areas. Terrorists in the U.S.: What does the FBI know and when did they know it?...
*and now reporting on "possible" terror cells.* I only have one thing to say about the recent terror attacks: Within hours of the New York/New Jersey attacks five people had been arrested and another one, Ahmad Khan Rahami, identified. Looking at this situation with "soft eyes" there is no doubt in my mind that these Muslims have been on the FBI radar for quite some time. Sorry if we unintentionally intimidated anyone
Chatting with an acquaintance the other day about a bunch of rogues known vaguely to both of us, he suddenly described one dubious character as ‘a Jewish lawyer’ . I’m used to hearing this kind of thing; for example a neighbour once described a prominent musician who’d been harshly critical of his child’s playing as ‘a Russian Jew.’ Not wishing to be either confrontational nor overly sensitive, I let such moments pass without ado. But later, without wishing to emulate Emily Thornberry, and heaven forfend, fling around desperate accusations of misogyny, or in this case antisemitis... more »

The Syrian War To Free Itself From The Evil US/Israel/NATO Criminal Cabal: The Ceasefire Is Over (It Never Began), And Other Updates From Syria
The "ceasefire" in Syria is "officially" over... As far as I am concerned and from what I see as a realist, it NEVER even began..... The entire premise of having this "ceasefire" in the first place was supposedly to save the civilians holed up in Aleppo from a "humanitarian disaster"... The reality is that the US bought and paid for mercenaries, aka "rebels" and "terrorists", were never ever to abide by the "ceasefire" demands... And of course the criminal and most evil US government was going to use any "ceasefire" respite as a means of rushing in new arms and supplies to their hol... more »

For that reason, our four-week series, Where the Test Scores Are, will be on hiatus until next Monday. Next week, we'll proceed with the third week in our series, "Where the Achievement Gaps Are." Today, we'll jump the gun on that topic a tad—and we'll explain what Bill Keller said. As we noted in last Friday's report... more »

NATO is set to deploy a “deterrent” and possible “fighting” force of 4,000 troops to the Baltic region by May 2017. The chief of the European Command said the alliance needs to approach Russia from a “position of strength.” Russia considers the new deployment of NATO troops as well as the increased number of military drills near Russian territory, the creation of anti-ballistic missile sites in Europe and other moves, as a threat to Russia’s national security. They may kill for money. But they die for their religions, their governments, their clans… and their ideas. What Comes To Mind When You Hear The Word "Unsuitable" These Days?
People are getting nervous that Trump can actually win. Blue America hasn't exactly been Hillary headquarters this election season, but yesterday we unveiled a new approach that goes beyond just #NeverTrump. Former Defense Secretary Robert Gates, who worked with Hillary in the Obama cabinet, is no fan of hers either, not by any stretch of the imagination. But in a *Wall Street Journal* OpEd over the weekend, he made the same point we did: it's time to get serious about this sociopath getting into the White House. When it comes to credibility problems, though, Donald Trump is in a... more »

TRUCKERS AND ASYLUM At last a tiny glimpse of sanity appeared on the horizon of the view from the loony bin that is England. The Government LOST the right to impose fines on lorry drivers found with asylum seekers stowing away in their vehicles (at a rate of £2000 per criminal caught). This is indeed a good thing because it highlights the utterly disgraceful policy of the State letting aliens onto our shores, then persecuting our own people who have unwittingly been used by the same. It is not the job of lorry drivers to protect our national borders, it is the job of the army. The ... more »

Anti-string crackpots being emulated by a critic of macroeconomics
While only a few thousand people in the world – about one part per million – have some decent idea about what string theory is, the term "string theory" has undoubtedly penetrated the mass culture. The technical name of the theory of everything is being used to promote concerts, "string theory" is used in the title of books about tennis, and visual arts have lots of "string theory" in them, too. But the penetration is so deep that even the self-evidently marginal figures such as the anti-string crackpots have inspired some followers in totally different parts of the human activity. ... more »

The Daily Caller reports: Speaking at a Trump campaign event in Little Haiti, Sansaricq explained that he became president of the Senate in 1994, a year during which the Clinton presidency attempted to oust the oppressive military regime in Haiti by threat of invasio... more »

Summing up the week
Another week has just come to an end, and it's time to sum up. One of the conclusions is that I have survived the first of the three crazy weeks :) *Right now* Right now I've just come out of the shower, am in my bed at a hotel in Kristiansand, and looking forward to talk to several hundred girls about *nuclear physics and research and stuff*, and why I think science is awesome, tomorrow. My talk isn't completely ready yet - that will probably happen tomorrow morning during an early breakfast <3 *Boost(s) of the week* When I had just finishing my talk on Bruges. When Stephan Obersted... more »
Northerntruthseeker Rant For Sunday, September 18th, 2016
[image: rant-jpeg-b] Sunday, and here we go with my weekly rant.... I honestly do not know how to reach the average American in regards to the reality about that heinous diabolical demonic psychotic creature known as Hillary "Killary" Clinton...EVERYTHING about this poor excuse for a woman shows that we are indeed dealing with pure evil, and yet we still find according to some "polls" that there are some 40% of the American electorate that will still consider casting their vote for this creature? Honestly, are Americans truly this brain dead? Lets face it right now.. In terms o... more »
"How It Really Is"
"What's the Real Unemployment Rate? That's the Wrong Question"
What If Trump Wins? Would You Hide A Latino Family Or Muslim Refugees In Your House Once The Deportations Begin?
In today's *NY Times* Nick Kristof asked his readers whether they would have hidden a Jew from the Nazis. In the 1970s I lived in Amsterdam for nearly 4 years and passed the Anne Frank Huis-- now a museum-- on the Prinsegracht a few times a week. It was vaguely, a little circuitously, between my apartment on the Overtoom and my job at the meditation center on Prins Hendrikkade. It was built in 1635. I thought about the question Kristof asked today very frequently back then. More recently though, I sometimes try to imagine what I would do if President Trumpf was having Latinos rou... more »

War and poverty has forced millions to turn toward Europe for a better future despite the continent suffering from its own financial and social problems. Tens of thousands of people took to the streets of central London on Saturday, demanding that the government do more to help mig... more »
For Whomever (remix and re-edit_
I count the lines on my hand and watch my footprints in the sand and all my schemes as yet unplanned as they float upon the breeze. they talk of me in tones now hushed with words that ramble and are rushed like toilet paper to be flushed as I crawl upon my knees. those humble servants of commerce who genuflect and promptly curse I wonder who is really worse the beggar or the thief? the lines are so clearly writ and in those lines, I have to sit my brain and soul can't benefit from this lack of self-belief. they tell me that the trouble is I'm far too old for this young man's biz I've ... more »
US Airstrike On Syrian Army Positions Was No Mistake -Assad Aide
A senior adviser to Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad said that the US airstrike on Syrian Army positions in Deir Ezzor was preplanned. President Assad’s Political and media adviser Dr. Bouthaina Shaaban told RT, “None of the facts on the ground show that what happened was a mistake or a coincidence.” US-led coalition jets bombed Syrian government forces’ positions near the eastern city of Deir ez-Zor, killing troops and “paving the way” for ISIS militants to launch their offensive, according to Syria’s official news agency Shaaban said: “The moment the American planes struck the ... more »

All politicians, like all human beings, shade the truth, use evidence selectively, recast the emphasis of events to cast themselves in a more favorable light. But what we are seeing here is a campaign that, with not one iota of moral conscience, has reached into the playbooks of Big Brother, Joseph Goebbels, and Soviet Russia and simply fabricated an entire false narrative. This is not a case of

*Nearly every one of these is routinely violated by Warmists* *Does the El Nino Cycle Reveal a Flaw in Man-Made Global Warming Theory?* *Increased humidity is NOT self-sustaining* Most people are unaware that the bulk of anthropogenic (man-made) global warming theory (AGW) is built on the concept of atmospheric water vapor feedback—not rising carbon dioxide (CO2) levels. Plenty of climate critics have questioned the soundness of this assumption, however, and evidence of its flaws may be more obvious than we realize. Here’s the essence of AGW theory: CO2 is something of a lim... more »
