Sunday morning music
It's a sad Sunday Morning Music for me today, because yesterday I learned that Judith Durham, lead singer of The Seekers during their heyday in the 1960's, died on Friday. Her voice was extraordinary, but so was her life in general, in so many ways. I grew up with The Seekers' music, and it's been an important strand of my musical memories and tastes ever since. A couple of decades ago, a compendium of every single Seekers song was released in a five-CD boxed set, and I bought it at once. It remains a treasured part of my music library. In memory of Judith Durham and The ... read more

Gordon Brown!
This is getting ridiculous now. Last September I posted about how Radio 4's *Sunday* programme “likes giving Gordon Brown a platform to promote his causes”. I wrote: Despite it being a weekly programme featuring very few politicians, the son of the manse has been granted the *Sunday *bully pulpit no less than three times over the past year, pushing his agenda with the BBC's help. Last October he was on demanding that the government 'must act to prevent the loss of a million young people to the job market'. GB News, reviewing the *MoS* front page story last night We've been doing this so long now that we can just guess what the BBC will do sometimes. Before going to bed last night I was reading *The Mail on Sunday*'s scoop about a leaked intelligence report showing that nearly 4 in 10 people illegally crossing the English Channel come from Albania - i.e. from a peaceful country and, therefore, economic migrants not refugees, despite what the BBC insists. Modelling of Campylobacter in Sweden has indicated a 2-week time lag between human cases and broiler prevalence. However, there is no simple relationship between prevalence in chickens bred for meat and patients. Additional... Continue Reading read more

Net Zero Is Not Just For Carbon Emissions -- Now It's Nitrogen
* In recent months the insane world-wide campaign against the emission of carbon into the atmosphere has not been going all that well for the zealots. * Among other things, the Ukraine war has highlighted the fact that wind and solar electricity generators can’t really work on their own to power a modern economy. That has left places like Germany and the UK that built the most of them facing soaring energy prices and dependence on natural gas from Russia for backup.
