Peter Thiel on the dangers of progress
I realize that i have never quite addressed this topic, but then of course, no one else has either and i guide my material and comments toward what others are already chattering about. First though progress is massively real if measured in terms of global liberization of labor and access to material wealth provided you bother to see how the bottom third of that population are doing. They have been steadily doing better because their scant wages gives them way more goods and options. Of course the USA and the developed world is under pressure because the rest of the world is gett... read more
Big Bang
What all this really says is that the Cosmos is vastly older than estimated through the Big Bang concept. The curve shown in the illustyration merely confirms as much as it shows the real rate of change declining. That is easily predicted by elementary considerations based on an original act of creation. Recall one divided by x as x goes to infinity and then recall we only have empirical infinity which is an insanely large number and that one divided by x does not become zero. Rather an im[ortant consideration that everyone has been ignoring ( or dismissing as unimportant )... read more
MIT developed heat engine has no moving parts --- is more efficient than a steam turbine
Moving parts are not really your enemy when you have two centuries to get it right. And no one has optimized the reverse Rankin engine in order to replace cooling towers. And just how do they deal with the sixty percent heat not captured here? If they get to use a working fluid, perhaps they can shove it through a steam turbine or shove it back through. Not nearly so exciting when you are playing with 2000 C. I really like Geothermal because we even have the drilling tech to go deep when we are ready. Enough to think about refrigerating that drill head. This way we tap into t... read more
