In the latest attempt to use the courts to address the climate crisis, five young people are suing 12 EU countries over membership in a treaty that they argue puts the needs of fossil fuel companies above climate action. The young people brought their case before the European Court of Human Rights on Tuesday, as Euractiv reported. The lawsuit targets the Energy Charter Treaty (ECT), which gives energy companies the right to sue governments for compensation when their policies threaten profits. “Governments are still putting profits of the fossil fuel industry over human rights. Biden's energy fiasco
National Review: ... In past attempts to seem like he’s doing something about the problem, Biden has ordered releases of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, pushed electric vehicles, and invoked the Defense Production Act to produce more renewable-energy components. As anyone could have predicted, gas prices were unaffected by those actions. So now he’s just firing off notes to energy CEOs on White House letterhead threatening them with government action if they don’t do what he wants. “Your companies need to work with my Administration to bring forward concrete, near-ter... read more

How Hollywood validates the myth of the good guy with a gun
[image: An image of Keanu Reeves as John Wick, aiming a handgun.] John Wick is just one in a long line of Hollywood’s “good guy with a gun.” | Lionsgate On screen, an armed hero saves the day. But reality is different. He gallops into town, the stranger with the shadowy past, and quick-draws his Winchester to right the town’s wrongs. Or he’s a gruff, pistol-packing cop with an estranged wife and a kid he only sees a few times a year, but he saves a whole building full of people from the terrorists who’ve kidnapped them. HOW'S THAT DEVOLUTION WORKING OUT?

About a quarter of the U.S. population lives in states expected to be affected by the ruling, which struck down a New York gun law.
