On the road again
Miss D. and I are on the road again, heading for Libertycon this weekend in Chattanooga, TN. It's our "home" convention, the one we regard as a gathering of friends and literary family. It hasn't been held for two years, thanks to COVID-19 restrictions, so I'm sure there are lots of people as eager as we are to revive it. Blog posting while on the road will be sporadic. When between destinations, as we are at present (we're overnighting in Little Rock, AR), I'll try to put up brief progress reports. At Libertycon, I hope I'll have time for longer posts, both about the conve... read more

Lesley O'Brien, director of Freight Link Europe, said "pretty much everything you buy comes on the back of a truck" so customers were paying more. Her comments come as the RAC said it now costs £98 to fill the average car with petrol and £101.86 with diesel. The motoring group has called for "radical government i... read more

Turkish hilltop where civilization began
Gobekli Tepi is an amazing artifact yet it is also basic as well. No refinedbjoinery is on display nor skilled sculpture. We have nicely squared off stones set up to allow folks to admire them. All good. It is the age and their deliberate burial that amazes. It taskes a well organized society to haul huge amounts of sand and soil in order to massively bury something like this which is why it is rare. I went through this and it largely sounds like the Giant Sloth at work. Most of our other sightings took place on forest soils. This is taking place on stones and hard pan. The hind legs of the Sloth are goat like at the least and we are surely dealing with a robust nail structure at the least. Witnesses suggested that the hoof sounds came across like goat sounds. at least that eliminates the sound of a horse hoof. A robust foot pad is called for and that is shown on our fossil sketches and protruding claws would make noise on rocks and hard pan. The hind legs of the Giant... read more
