The Demise of Mesopotamia: The Geopolitics of Water. The Desertification of Iraq
In the long term this will all work out. short term not so wonderful. All of this rergion needs to be fully reforested including all the hills and up the mountains. It was originally forested and dam making merely helps control the flow as may be suitable. Rememeber all the water that falls on the basin still makes to down to the sea. Flooding those marshes takes simply better planning. The same holds true for the Nile delta. How Modern European Populations Have Evolved Over The Past 50,000 Years
The big change was the advent of agriculture and herding. Let me exsplain why, because it happened in the USA over only a century. A hunting bamd consists of at most perhaps twenty folks. worse they are also in the habit of killing off neighboring men in other bands puting pressure on the male population. Thus we preserve breeders and also suffer food shortages in the winter. It is typically difficult for this global population to actually increaser. with the advent of agriculture, the men no longer hunt much or raid their neighbors but concentrate in optimizing the land man... read more
The Genius of Fishing with Tidal Weirs
All very nice and does work in the correct locations. That is the problem. virtually the entire coast is exposed to churning seas at best and this must be avoided or protected from. Protection really means an off shore weir large enough to control incoming wave action. The low tidal stroke of the tropics works very well for this. Yet then we have incoming storm surges. Sooner or later, we have a wreak. So not so easy. The other thing that must be addressed is combining land title with economic viability. All this also needs to make resident land grabs uneconomic as well.... read more
