*"Oh Great, Now We Could Lose The Petrodollar" * by Michael Snyder "The economic sanctions that have been imposed upon Russia have caused immense damage, but a loss of the petrodollar would be absolutely devastating for the U.S. economy. Since making an agreement with the Nixon administration in 1974, the Saudis have traded oil exclusively for U.S. dollars. Today, approximately 80 percent of all oil produced in the entire world is traded for dollars, and the “petrodollar” has become one of the foundational pillars of the current global financial system. Can Russia continue war in Ukraine?
DailyWire: Lt. Gen. Ben Hodges told Fox News on Monday that he believes Russian military forces are just days away from not being able to continue to their war against Ukraine. “The Russians went after his [Fmr. Amb. to NATO Kurt Volker’s] training center in Yavoriv, outside the city of Lviv, partly to demonstrate that they could reach the lines of communication that bring supplies and support from Poland into Ukraine,” he said. “But also I think to maybe go after the logistics buildup that’s happening there. Police Killings Continue; Biden Administration Calls For More Law- Enforcement Funding
In Minneapolis, Mayor Jacob Frey, who was in office at the time of the murder of Floyd and the subsequent rebellions in the city and around the country, has now issued a proposal to ban “No-Knock Warrants”. However, the problems of police misconduct and brutality are not new to Minneapolis and the recent initiative by the City of Minneapolis does provide loopholes that would allow the type of law-enforcement intrusions into people’s homes that result in many unjustified deaths. Biden's immigration mistakes
Washington Examiner Editorial: ... Over the last 10 years, across both the Obama and Trump administrations, ICE deported between 226,000 and 410,000 illegal immigrants every year. Under Biden in fiscal year 2021, they deported just 59,000. Even that number is misleading. The Biden DHS memo severely restricting ICE agents' ability to arrest and deport illegal immigrants wasn’t issued until Feb. 18, 2021. More than half of the deportations that occurred in fiscal 2021 actually occurred in the first 4 1/2 months of the fiscal year under former President Donald Trump’s enforcement r... read more

*Fox News:* *Biden’s climate agenda ‘created the perfect storm for Putin,’ Republicans say* *Sen. Thune says energy security is 'a matter of national security'* President Biden’s capitulation to the left on green energy "created the perfect storm" for Russia’s Vladimir Putin to invade Ukraine, Republicans say. The Unrecognized Importance of Petitioning for Redress of Grievances
For the Balkinization symposium on Daniel Carpenter, Democracy by Petition: Popular Politics in Transformation, 1790–1870 (Harvard University Press, 2021). I have read many fine books over the past year, but at the head of the list are Kate Masur’s *Until Justice Be Done: America’s First Civil Rights Movement, From the Revolution to Reconstruction *and now Dan Carpenter’s stunning *Democracy & Petition: Popular Politics in Transformation 1790-1870*. Minority voters join the rebellion against Bidenflation
Federalist: As the Federal Reserve’s Federal Open Markets Committee meets on Tuesday and Wednesday to consider the fate of American monetary policy, they should consider the plight of people like Roger Stephens. The retired airline mechanic who lives in a Los Angeles neighborhood recently told a reporter inflation is taking a toll on his lifestyle. Referring to the president, he commented that “Uncle Joe has put us on a diet….I like to have steak once or twice a month. Documents prove Biden deliberately hit energy business on day one
*Caroline Downey:* *Biden Administration Handicapped Domestic Energy Production on First Day in Office, Memos Reveal* Contrary to President Biden’s recent claims that his administration is pulling out all the stops to alleviate America’s inflation woes, since its early days it has fostered a policy environment that is hostile to domestic energy production, fueling price hikes at the gas pump long before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, according to memos obtained by National Review. On the day Biden took office, his Department of the Interior issued a memo suspending the authority ... read more
Junkyard Dogs
The race for the leadership of the Conservative Party is turning into a brawl among junkyard dogs. Campbell Clark writes: The things Tory leadership candidates are saying about each other are downright scathing. To Canadians outside the Conservative tent, that’s bound to send an ugly message about the folks squabbling inside. Then on Sunday, when Brampton, Ont., mayor and former Ontario provincial Progressive Conservative leader Patrick Brown jumped into the race, Mr. Poilievre’s campaign quickly posted a social-media ad to attack him. Science Conferences Are Worth Your Time, But You Don't Need To Create Emissions Traveling To Them To Benefit
The public are often baffled why environmental journalists attend climate conferences in person, using the rationalization that they do their jobs better if they can talk to people outside formal interviews. What salesperson doesn't feel the same way? Science conferences are also well-attended, groups hosting them even note their high attendance, but the belief that any benefit from flying there and staying in a hotel is meaningful is usually held by people who enjoy going to conferences rather than empirical data. read more read more

The Ukraine war: lies, falsehoods and propaganda are the order of the day
As we've said in these pages on previous occasions, both sides in the Ukraine war - and the Biden administration as well - are lying through their teeth about what caused the war, how it's progressing, and what its outcomes are likely to be.
