It’s been a year since violence erupted in the lobster fishery, but the cases of dozens of people facing charges are in limbo and the status of the “moderate livelihood” fishery remains unresolved
When a commercial lobster fishery makes national headlines, it’s not about good catches. One year ago, confrontation and violence upended the normally business-like commercial lobster season in St. Mary’s Bay and Lobster Fishing Area 35 in southwest Nova Scotia. Tensions between Indigenous and non-Indigenous fishermen in the bay had erupted in several dangerous boat-ramming incidents. […] read more

State Anti-Protest Laws and Their Constitutional Implications
Protest against the Dakota Access Pipeline. (Fibonacci Blue, https://flic.kr/p/NoMmDY; CC BY 2.0, https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.0/) In the past several years, state legislatures across the country have passed laws designed to curb the rights of political protesters and increase their exposure to criminal penalties. Though a few members of Congress have introduced federal anti-protest bills, none has yet been signed into law, making state capitols the primary arena for this trend. As of September, 20 state legislatures have enacted 36 laws since January 2017 that penal... read more

Explained: Russia’s Cold War-Era Kiev-Class Aircraft Carriers
*Kyle Mizokami* *Aircraft Carriers, Eurasia* The Kiev-class carriers were an ambitious attempt to give Russia a powerful ship capable of taking on American aircraft carriers. *Here's What You Need to Know*: Only one of these mighty ships remains. At the tail end of the Cold War, the Soviet Union produced a number of unique aircraft carriers. The Seven Pillars of Capitalism
The notion that capitalism is based on the ideas of John Locke and Adam Smith, that it leads to free markets and liberty, and that it is a humane system is a myth. From my study of the history of the Europeans in the last 500 years, I have reached the conclusion that the seven pillars of capitalism are: free land, free resources, slavery, a proselytizing religion, an armed population convinced of the supremacy of their race, a political establishment hell-bent on expanding its control over other people, and a military led by ruthless warlords and generals. The road to the Western c... read more

When it comes to getting it wrong, the Conservative Party is outstanding in its field. Take the issue of the parliamentary vaccine mandate.
