Australian Federal Police raid journalists over exposures of government spying, war crimes
Oscar Grenfell, WSWS, Jun 5 2019
Over the past 24 hours, the Australian Federal Police (AFP) have carried out two raids targeting separate media organisations, for their publication of articles exposing government spying plans and war crimes committed by Australian troops in Afghanistan. Yesterday, AFP officers raided the home of Sunday Telegraph political editor Annika Smethurst in the Australian Capital Territory over an article she wrote in Apr 2018 revealing a secret government proposal to enable the Australian Signals Directorate to conduct domestic spying operations. After 11 am today, AFP officers entered the Sydney building of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) with a search warrant, referencing 2017 reports detailing the involvement of Australian troops in extrajudicial killings and other violations of international law in Afghanistan.
The investigation is reportedly over an Apr 2018 article by Smethurst, revealing that the Coalition government was moving to enable the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD), the country’s main electronic eavesdropping agency, to carry out domestic spying operations, including against Australian citizens.
( Revelations of war crimes in Afghanistan should be old news. Apparently it isn't enough to suppress drug production outside crime syndicate / black ops revenue streams - people have been starving and dying violently  there for - well - centuries )

A Swedish Court Injects Some Sense
    Craig Murray, Jun 5 2019
When, eight years late, the European Arrest Warrant request for Assange was finally put before a Swedish court, the court refused to issue it. Readers of this blog are amongst the very few people who have had the chance to learn the information that the original European Arrest Warrant for Julian Assange from Sweden was not issued by any court but by a prosecutor; that this was upheld in the UK Supreme Court despite the Court’s open acknowledgement that this was not what the UK Parliament had intended by the phrase that the warrant must come from a “judicial authority”; and that the law had been changed immediately thereafter so it could not be done again.

Pindostan Claims Russia ‘Probes Ways’ to Disrupt NATO by Supplying S-400 to Turkey
    Sputnik News, Jun 5 21019
Turkey buying Russia’s S-400 missile systems could contribute to Moscow’s alleged push to disrupt NATO, Pindostan’s NATO ambassador Kay Bailey Hutchison told CNBC. Faschingstein reportedly gave Ankara an earlier ultimatum to either scrap the S-400 deal with Russia or face cancellation of the delivery of 100 F-35 jets. Accusing Russia of continuing “to probe ways” to weaken the alliance, Hutchison said that it would be unacceptable to place the S-400 under the same military control as Pindo F-35 fighter jets. She said:
They may lose association with the F-35s that they have already ordered. You have to make a choice. You can have one or the other, but not both.
Her remarks come after AASD for Security Kathryn Wheelbarger told the Atlantic Council in late May:
Turkey’s deployment of the S-400 would be devastating for Pindostan’s F-35 fighter programme. It would rupture Turkish interoperability with NATO, a key aspect of the defence of the alliance, and let’s be clear: the S-400 is a Russian system designed to shoot down aircraft like the F-35, and it is inconceivable to imagine Russia not taking advantage of that collection opportunity.
