Top Ten Hidden Sources of GMOs to Boycott and Keep OUT of Your Shopping Cart
Genetically modified organisms are widely banned across the world, with many of them grown in just a small handful of countries including the United States, Argentina, and Brazil among others. But through these channels and especially through the United States, where Monsanto is headquartered, the assembly line for GMO corn, soy, canola, cotton, sugar and other crops continues to power ahead full-bore, and these ingredients end up in everything from our food to clothing and even fuel products. With that in mind, here are 10 sources of hidden GMOs to avoid whenever possible, as t... more »

While the sheer number of artillery tubes could theoretically kill a large number of civilians, operational issues complicate matters and push the number of civilian casualties greatly downward. Despite the thousands of artillery pieces, only 700 heavier guns and rocket launchers, plus the newer 300-millimeter MRLs, have the range to strike Seoul. Only a third would normally be fired at once, and notional r... more »

The True Measure Of A Just Society
Justin Trudeau has made it clear that he's working for the middle class. Ed Broadbent writes that Trudeau should be working much harder to raise the prospects of the poor: There was a time when reformers looked elsewhere. They said the real test for a progressive government is how it treats the poor. Winning an election by appeals to the middle class is one thing. But continuing with that emphasis while almost five million Canadians are in poverty is a betrayal of the democratic goal of equality. It’s a particular betrayal of poor Canadian children who have been promised equality ... more »

The Minsky Moment in Constitutional Law
During the Panic of 2008, fresh attention was given to the economic research of Hyman Minsky. Minsky proposed a theory to explain periodic financial crises that went something like this: The further the previous crisis receded from memory, the more people discounted the possibility that such an event would recur. This led them to take on more risk or deregulate, which eventually triggered the next crisis. And so on. I wonder if we are now having a Minsky Moment in politics or constitutionalism. In other words, voters and some political elites may be taking for granted the benefits t... more »

Bitcoin holders pay some 7% a year as fees to their "fund managers"
In February, I argued that the unbacked cryptocurrencies (almost all of them except for Tether) should be considered to be stocks in "companies" that simply don't produce any dividends (and have no plans to change it). People still pay huge amounts of money for these basically worthless stocks because they assume that a greater fool will buy it from them for a higher price in the future. India has a completely modern military that has only been enhanced with rising Indian prosperity. All its original doctrines compare to NATO and that should give any adversary pause.
