"It was like Reagan with a case of diversity. Instead of “Morning in America,” Barack Obama summed up his presidency as an arduous climb out of the Bush abyss, a return to sanity that is now threatened by the gathering darkness of Trumpist barbarity. Obama’s fictional – and, thankfully, final – State of the Union address seems coherent only when juxtaposed with Republican counter-fictions. Together, the two interlocking narratives describe a nation and world of complete fantasy."
Swan Song for a War and Austerity President (Who is Also Black)
This year’s State of the Union Address was a kind of swan song for Barack Obama, his last before “retiring” to three presidential libraries and tens of millions in corporate dollars. Thankfully, Obama was unable to achieve his “Grand Bargain” with the GOP, and “Social Security is fortunate to have emerged relatively intact from seven years of Obama.” But he succeeded in destroying Libya and Syria, and breaking every international law in the book.

This is the Ultra-Orthodox Jewish schools in Britain. Once again double standards. It would be a much bigger story if it were Muslims schools.
“A typical day would start at 8 in the morning, finishing at 10 in the evening. We would sit all day and study our religious texts… We were bred in racism, sexism and bigotry… Libraries, internet, TV, radio, social media or any other source of contact with, or information about, the world around us was strictly banned.
An appalling and heartbreaking story out of Flint, Michigan, where thousands of people drank lead-contaminated water, after a state-appointed emergency manager switched to a questionable water supply in order to cut costs.
We know this much, but how did this happen? Is it still occurring? Has it happened in other cities? Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder is refusing to release correspondence and documents around the decision to use contaminated water.
Michigan is one of just two states that gives blanket exemption to the governor’s office from the Freedom of Information Act.
Please join me in fighting this breathtaking abuse of executive privilege, and call on Gov. Snyder to come clean about the Flint water crisis.
"According to a diagram News 9 received from the University of Kansas, the frack pumps caught fire and all of the trucks connected by metal piping are on fire. All 22 trucks are said to costs about $1 million each."

- The LA Gas Leak Is Scarier Than We Thought
By Maddie Stone, Gizmodo, Jan. 13, 2016
Since a gas leak erupted outside LA on October 23rd, over 83,000 metric tons of methane have escaped to the atmosphere, prompting public officials to evacuate the neighboring community of Porter Ranch. But as a disturbing new analysis shows, a much broader swath of LA is now drowning in methane.
....elevated methane levels were found up to eight miles from the storage site. In a relatively unpolluted areas, methane concentrations will typically fall between 1.85 and 1.95 ppm. In the region surrounding the Porter Ranch leak, concentrations of the invisible pollutant are two to up to 67 times higher.

p What the BC Supreme Court ruling means
Sterritt said the court ruling means the B.C. government would have to start from scratch on consulting with affected First Nations for its own review.
"You're talking about a whole new review process here," said Sterritt. "I'm not sure that Northern Gateway or anyone else would have the appetite for that."
Federal approval stands, says company
However, Northern Gateway says the federal decision stands, and its still working to meet the 209 conditions set out by the NEB, along with the B.C. government's conditions.

"Approval of the project falls within federal jurisdiction and this decision from the B.C. Supreme Court does not change that approval or the project's environmental assessment," said Ivan Giesbrecht, communication manager for Northern Gateway, in a statement.
"Northern Gateway and the project proponents, including Aboriginal Equity Partners, remain committed to this essential Canadian infrastructure."
Northern Gateway hopes to change Trudeau's mind
Tanker ban for B.C.'s North Coast could impact Northern Gateway pipeline
Ottawa's role in the fate of the project has also been in question following Justin Trudeau's Liberal win in October.
Tanker ban for B.C.'s North Coast could impact Northern Gateway pipeline
Ottawa's role in the fate of the project has also been in question following Justin Trudeau's Liberal win in October.
Trudeau has called for a moratorium on crude oil tanker traffic on B.C.'s north coast, which would block the main reason for the pipeline — to ship oil via tanker from Kitimat to Asian markets and elsewhere.
Northern Gateway has been undeterred by that plan, however.
B.C. Justice Minister Suzanne Anton has not yet commented on the court ruling.
