At last, it has happened. With *Obergefell v. Hodges*, same-sex marriage has been declared legal and constitutional in the United States. Same-sex couples can legally marry, just as opposite-sex couples have always had the right to do. Most importantly, laws prohibiting same-sex marriage are now unconstitutional.* For some years on this blog, I used to note every country that joined the equal marriage club, but about two years ago, I stopped counting. More than 20 countries now recognize same-sex marriage as a right, and that number continues to climb. This issue has always been, ... more »

June 28: the meaning of morality

Graeme Decarie at The Moncton Times@Transcript - Good and Bad - 2 hours ago
About a dozen years ago, I read a book whose title I have long forgotten - something like "The hundred greatest people in world history". One can, of course, argue forever about what greatness is, and whether this hundred in particular was the greatest. But they all, without doubt, had qualities of greatness. And there was certainly a bias for the western world. But still- there was an undeniable feature about those chosen. Two peoples stood out as remarkably prominent, though both were only a small part of the population even of the western world - Jews and Scots. And that's not s... more »

Radio 4’s Sunday programme was but an amuse bouche served before the meal proper, which was Sunday Morning Live; quite a meal it was too. It was roughly to do with Ramadan and I.S. [image: U214 class SSK]Hopeful of bagging the Rs 50,000 crore project of the Indian Navy for building six conventional submarines, Germany has said that it has offered some "pretty convincing" business offers to the Indian government for cooperation in the defence sector. German Ambassador to India Michael Steiner said the P-75(I) project was under discussion and that the matter also came up during German Defence Minister Ursula von der Leyen's visit here last month. "They did not talk about how this deal should be done...whether this should be Business-to-Business or Government-to ... more »

Chinese submarine in Karachi, raises concern

Ko Savonije at Naval Open Source INTelligence - 11 hours ago
[image: Type 041 (Yuan) class SSK]Chinese submarines have now reportedly begun to make forays to even Karachi after making similar visits to Colombo over the last one year, sparking further concerns in the Indian security establishment. This is yet another indicator of the fast transformation of the People's Liberation Army-Navy (PLA-N), which operated close to its shores for long, into a "blue-water force with long legs" that is expanding its presence in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). In the latest incident, the PLA-N's conventional Yuan-class 335 submarine entered the Karachi po... more »

Gay marriage: constitutional revisionism is extremely dangerous

Luboš Motl at The Reference Frame - 12 hours ago
I have nothing against gays. My co-existence with gays has been very good and dozens of witnesses exist to confirm my extraordinary tolerance, to say the least. I think that there are biological reasons for gays' inclinations and these inclinations are compatible with their life or individual health. A part of my understanding of the human freedom implies that people may insert their organs wherever they want – as long as they don't harm the freedom and dignity of others. And in a democratic system, voters or their elected representatives may ensure tax breaks for those who insert th... more »

Here is another noble project worth supporting. June 27: Wow! A powerful semi-automatic rifle for only $199.95

Graeme Decarie at The Moncton Times@Transcript - Good and Bad - 17 hours ago
Gee. Just like the rifle that killed three of our police. That's from and ad insert in yesterday's paper. And - 1,500 rounds of ammunition for only $279.What's it useful for? Well, you really don't need it for hunting. You would need it in the woods only if you're suddenly attacked by six or seven deer. And the semi-automatic feature makes it very dangerous in the hands of a sloppy gunner because it means the gun can go off with just an accidental touch of the trigger. But, sometimes, you may want to kill a policeman, and at short range. For that, there's a quite powerful pistol ca... more »

Sodomite Pride: Why are we forced to celebrate male perverts obsessions with men's bottoms (not to mention minge-eating lezzers)?

Social-Freedom National-Justice at Social Freedom Through National Justice - 17 hours ago
Today is pride day - rainbow flags are flying from public buildings, social media propaganda outlets like facebook are awash with the same. In cities across the decadent west, sodomites and their female counterparts are dressed in their best bedroom gear, practically having sex in the streets as idiot liberals and their poor confused children cheer on a display of sordid sexual debauchery. The police (those who aren't mincing about in bondage wear and pink færy costumes and themselves participating in the pride marches) are failing to uphold their legal requirement to protect the ... more »
