10:45pm MDST#Countdown to Anzac Day: So who pulled the trigger that started the war?
So today I had planned to write about the origins of the war that ended peace – ‘'the "seminal catastrophe" of modern times and the calamity from which all other calamities sprang” -- the war that killed 16 millions and destroyed the health, wealth and material well-being of millions more – that ended empires four empires, bankrupted another, and sowed the seeds for a century of totalitarianism – that destroyed for all time “the pre-World War One world, the last afterglow of the most radiant cultural atmosphere in human history.”* But I’ve decided that I won’t. I might do that ne... more »

GOP Generation Y Fund Probably Won't Be As Active This Cycle As It Was Last Cycle
In 2008, when Aaron Schock declared his leadership PAC-- the GOP Generation Y Fund-- was open for business, Schock was the youngest Member of Congress and he claimed the PAC was meant to help elect more young Republican Members. Last cycle Schock raised $782,233 and distributed 510,404 to Republicans to House seats. Electing "young" Republicans, however, doesn't seem to have been on his mind. Chet Raymo, "Lessons"
"Lessons" by Chet Raymo "There is a four-line poem by Yeats, called "Gratitude to the Unknown Instructors": "What they undertook to do They brought to pass; All things hang like a drop of dew Upon a blade of grass." Like so many of the short poems of Yeats, it is hard to know what the poet had in mind, who exactly were the unknown instructors, and if unknown how could they instruct. But as I opened my volume of The Poems this morning, at random, as in the old days people opened the Bible and pointed a finger at a random passage seeking advice or instruction, this is the poem that p... more »

Military Experts Impressed By Latest Islamic State Video Showcasing It`s Capabilities
Islamic State fighters parade on military vehicles along the streets of a northern Raqqa province in Syria. (Reuters) *McClatchy News*: *Video of Islamic State capabilities impresses military experts* *IRBIL, Iraq — The video opens with high-definition footage shot from a drone flying over an oil refinery in central Iraq, but this video isn’t from a multi-million-dollar American drone. Two Competing Views
I think the USA is becoming hollowed out from the inside by its elites delusion and greed. I also think it is still incredibly powerful and highly resilient. Both these essays make a lot of sense: Pepe Escobar: "Eurasia as we know it is dead" All bets are off on how the fateful U.S.-China-Russia triangle will evolve. Arguably, it may take the following pattern: The Americans talk loud and carry an array of sticks; the Russians are not shy to talk back while silently preparing strategically for a long, difficult haul; the Chinese follow a modified “Little Helmsman” Deng Xiaoping do... more »

Help Fund the 'No Drones' TV Ads
The boards (directors and advisers) of the Global Network recently agreed to send $500 to help sponsor these remarkable 'No Drone' TV commercials across the nation in communities that have a drone operations base. Nick Mottern at KnowDrones writes: On February 27, this first-ever TV commercial began a week-long run on various cable channels in Las Vegas, NV, including CNN and MSNBC, showing viewers living near the Creech AFB drone control center what they probably have never seen before – children killed and mutilated by U.S. drones. How to save refugees from drowning? Recolonialization
About 800 refugees – mostly from the black Africa – drowned off Libyan shores. Hot Air argues that this tragedy – much like numerous other harmful events – should be blamed on the U.S.-NATO coup against Moammar Qaddafi in Libya. Some people predict 30,000 migrants to drown just in 2015. But I want to offer you a more general idea. You agree that something is "imperfect" about the countries from which lots of people are fleeing, don't you? I think it should become standard that the countries that accept lots of refugees acquire a part of the territory – or a partial control over t... more »

Responding to a Jewish critic
I recently received the following email from a Jewish man living in the United Kingdom. I've decided to post this particular critic's email along with my reply for educational purposes. I hope that this will be an on-going dialogue, but given the fact most Jews are simply incapable of rationally dealing with criticisms of their individual and collective behavior, their subversive and destructive agendas, and their sacred, entirely fraudulent myths (especially *the fake "Holocaust" narrative of WWII*), I highly doubt that will happen. But, you never know. This man seems genuine and ... more »

EVERYBODY LOVES A CHARADE: Parademaster Bruni says he’s confused!

The charade to which we refer takes the form of a parade staged by our national “press corps.” In these recurring parades, our “journalists” pretend to discuss our presidential campaigns. 5 Corporations Sucking California Dry During the Drought
Jake Anderson As most people in the country know by now, California is currently suffering from a severe, record-breaking drought. In fact, it’s the worst drought in 1,200 years. While Governor Jerry Brown recently issued a mandate for people to start conserving water, large corporations use up and waste vastly more water than individuals and small businesses, often in ways that are detrimental to the environment. Let’s take a look at five of the most massive corporations in California that are the worst culprits when it comes to wasting water: *1. Nestle* Nestle, once mainly k... more »
This New Libertarian Micronation Might Just Be Crazy Enough to Work
Joshua Krause When Czech politician and libertarian activist Vít Jedlička decided to create a micronation in the Balkans, he never had any intention of succeeding. However, after receiving 20,000 requests for citizenship in less than a week, he is now taking the idea seriously. It started a little bit like a protest. But now it’s really turning out to be a real project with real support. This proposed nation, which has since dubbed “Liberland,” would be situated along the border... more »

Prison Labor is Industry’s “Best Kept Secret in Outsourcing” and What Has Killed Your Job
Mac Slavo There’s “free trade.” There’s “fair trade.” And then there’s what’s really happening. The realities of globalization have made the price of labor somewhere between rock bottom and worthless. Since the days of NAFTA, the WTO and a flood of cheap Chinese goods, major corporations – American-based and all the rest — have offshored production, taking advantage of virtual slave labor and the only edge that this kind of competition brings. But now, American companies are taking advantage of something better than low-wage offshore labor – straightforward prison labor may be t... more »

PACITA Keynote: Technology Assessment as Political Myth?
Above is a talk I gave last week in February at the PACITA Conference on Technology Assessment in Berlin. My talk was titled "Technology Assessment as Political Myth?" In the talk I discussed the phrase "basic research" and the so-called "Green Revolution" as examples of the stories that we tell ourselves about how innovation works. It turns out that the stories that we tell about innovation -- about science an technology in the economy and broader society-- are grounded in more than just the empirical. This is work in progress, imperfect and incomplete, but indicative of where m... more »
Ethics Professor Says It’s “Quite Reasonable” to Kill Disabled Babies via Obamacare
Daisy Luther Has anyone else noticed that most professors of ethics aren’t exactly…ummm…ethical? At least the ones who get quoted, anyway. A professor at the highly esteemed Princeton University doesn’t want his Obamacare premiums to increase because of caring for severely disabled babies. Dr. Pete Singer, who teaches ethics (but perhaps needs a little refresher on what the word “ethics” means) argued during a radio interview on Sunday that America should be more accepting of “intentionally ending the lives of severely disabled infants.” First, a definition: Ethics: that branch... more »

The Situation In Greece: WHY Is The Greek Government Robbing From Its Own Citizens Rather Than Telling The IMF Off?
I am truly perplexed by what I am watching happen in Greece right now... The Syriza Government in Athens was elected by the Greek people because that political party offered them a way out of the dire economic mess that the previous criminal regime had created... The Greek nation had been saddled with odious debt amounting to some 280+ BILLION dollars that can never ever be paid back in any Greek's lifetime, and the only way out was definitely to tell the criminal Rothschild controlled and run IMF to take their debt and shove it up their asses! However, just the other day came very ... more »
Parent Offers Epic Response to Vaccine Homework
Heather Callaghan By now readers to this site have seen some outrageous indoctrination assignments springing forth from public schools. Yet wonders never cease when dissecting the exact mechanism of influencing young, impressionable and trusting minds. It cannot be by accident. Over the weekend, a reader sent us an actual homework assignment from an unspecified elementary grade (below). It's titled "Medicine" and coerces the young mind to believe that vaccines (and prescription drugs) are the *main* route to overall health, if not the only route. ADHD: We Have Not Properly Diagnosed This Condition
How can we make this any clearer. ADHD is indicative of sugar hyper response. Any thing else showing up after this is resolved can then be treated. There will be few patients. Obama Administration Approves Arctic Drilling for Shell Oil
I personally oppose drilling and developing oil in the Arctic. The reason for that is that it is way too extreme and we are moving from barely possible to implausible. These seas become ice covered. It will not be possible to divert a thick ice slab away from a fixed facility. That leaves only sub-sea production systems into buried pipelines onto land. Add in the painfully short seasons that actually last about a month to two months and it has to be the most expensive oil on Earth. There are still options but so is building a bridge to Siberia from Alaska. So why are we doing th... more »

April 20: How could they be so stupid?
Early yesterday, a major news story broke in plenty of time to make today's newspapers. But, apparently, nobody at Irving press realized it was important. As usual, all the world news stories seem to have been chosen by a toss of the dice. But this story has consequences to think about. A boat carrying refugees, almost a thousand of them, sank in the Meditteranean, killing all or almost all aboard. Why is that so important? The reason goes back to a conference in Evian, France way back in 1938. Millions of Jews were desperate to get out of Germany. I knew two of them. Bernard and E...more »

[image: MQ-4C Triton]The US Navy has launched flight testing on the Northrop Grumman MQ-4C Triton of one of the first active electronically scanned array (AESA) radars with 360-degree coverage that was developed exclusively for the maritime patrol mission. The Northrop multifunction active sensor (MFAS) completed first flight on board the MQ-4C on 18 April following an extended risk reduction phase on a Gulfstream GII testbed. “We’re very confident the radar is going to work,” Sean Burke, the navy’s MQ-4C programme manager, told reporters about five days before the test flight. Getting value for money isn’t easy in Defence especially when the target keeps altering
[image: HMAS Waller (SSG 75)]Regular readers of this column are well aware there is only so much that can be written – well, intelligently written, anyway – about naval shipbuilding and the new submarine project. And so, because you're accustomed to reading stimulating articles in this space, you might confidently expect your correspondent wouldn't tax your patience with (yet another) fulmination about the incompetence of government policy it comes to the Navy, nor a diatribe on the arcana of modern defence procurement. So let's just take it for granted that our current system is s... more »

Guest Post - Encouraging Manufacturers to Help Preserve the Environment
We count on our manufacturing companies for everything from the windows in our homes to the bricks and steel supporting our cities’ tallest skyscrapers. The finished products these companies create are often beautiful and needed, but the environmental impact of the manufacturing isn’t always as pretty. It is no secret that the manufacturing sector can produce a lot of waste. In fact, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, in 2013 alone, manufacturing processes created close to 8 billion tons of nonhazardous waste. Even worse, a vast majority of that waste ended up in lan... more »

West's Propaganda War on Thailand's Economy Ends in Bombing
*April 21, 2015 *(Tony Cartalucci - NEO) For months after the 2014 military coup that ousted Thaksin Shinawatra's sister, Yingluck Shinawatra from office in Southeast Asia's nation of Thailand, the West has attempted to destabilize and undermine the military-led government that has since then worked ceaselessly to uproot the political machine that had granted the Shinawatra's impunity and maintained their grip on power for over a decade. The Poet: Rainer Maria Rilke, "And Yet..."
"And yet, though we strain against the deadening grip of daily necessity, I sense there is this mystery: All life is being lived. Who is living it then? Is it the things themselves, or something waiting inside them, like an unplayed melody in a flute? Is it the winds blowing over the waters? Is it the branches that signal to each other? Is it flowers interweaving their fragrances or streets, as they wind through time?" ~ Rainer Maria Rilke
“Who Knows What Evil Lurks?”
*“Who Knows What Evil Lurks?”* by Andrew Bard Schmookler "I recently had an interesting experience writing a piece for an American newspaper that’s published me over the years. In my piece, I addressed the puzzle of why it is that some of the most remarkably decent people I know have supported an American leadership that’s itself remarkable precisely for lacking such decency. To that puzzle I proposed an answer in two parts. For one thing, I suggested, these good people have been seduced by leaders expert in displaying the trappings of righteousness—leaders good at using the flag a... more »

*"Alive in Joy: Dispelling Drama"* by Madisyn Taylor, The DailyOM "Some people are so used to creating drama that a peaceful existence seems uncomfortable for them. There are scores of people in the world who seem to be magnets for calamity. They live their lives jumping from one difficult to the next, surrounded by unstable individuals. Some believe themselves victims of fate and decry a universe they regard as malevolent. Others view their chaotic circumstances as just punishments for some failing within. Yet, in truth, neither group has been fated or consigned to suffer. They ar... more »
