June 9: The Great Betrayal

Graeme Decarie at The Decarie Report - 13 hours ago
"The great betrayal" comes at the end of today's blog. But let's start with an irving press column of June 6 which I should have commented on at the time. This is a commentary by a professor of economics at UNB. His name is Herb Emery. has appeared twice now, and he looks like a rising favourite of the irving press. His argument in his column is that New Brunswick needs to develop its natural resources. Interestingly, though, he mentions only fossil fuels which (what a coincidence) is that the irving press and the Conservative party is pushing. He seems to feel it's perfectly safe... more »

Is Trump a racist?

Norma at Collecting My Thoughts - 13 hours ago
For the umpteenth time today I read that Trump is a racist. It's said constantly by Democrats, progressives and socialists. Let's find something he's said that is as racist as what Biden said about Obama back in 2007 ( "first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy"). Maybe you just call that patronizing, but really, the FIRST ARTICULATE African-American--where does that leave the rest of successful, educated black men? Has Trump said negative sexual things about Obama the way Jesse Jackson did? He said he'd like to cut his nuts off... more »

Two sides

Here's an unexpected one.... Both Sky and the BBC have online reports about the EU's plans to ban internet memes, including such things as the hugely popular 'distracted boyfriend' meme: Sky's report gives the critics of the plans their say and then quotes the EU's defence (a well-balanced piece). The BBC's report, however, only gives one side of the argument - the critics' side. That a BBC report could be totally one-sided isn't, of course, unexpected; but it's being one-sided *against* the EU *is*.

My Latest for American Citizens for Taiwan: Being Taiwanese, Being Chinese

*Yes, there is a balloon museum near this spot. Its reputation is inflated, however.* My latest for American Citizens for Taiwan: Being Taiwanese, Being Chinese. This analytical stance looks useful only because so many accept it, but it is an ideological construct. Its implicit and highly ideological assumption is that being Chinese means you are more sympathetic to political links to China, and further, that the two identities are zero-sum: to have more of one means to have less of the other. The authors of the piece, and many readers trained to think in this way, follow this chai... more »

DRDO SWATI Ends Artillery Dominance on Battlefield.

arclein at Terra Forming Terra - 22 hours ago
This type of capability has been obvious for years and has not been implemented mainly because it is not a priority when you have air dominance. If that is not the case, then this changes everything. What you need to know is that a fight between large conventional forces during the twentieth century was dominated by artillery. That meant that 70% of all casualties were caused by indirect fire. This means that all the training in the world was of no matter. Thus the willingness to send ill-trained boys into the line. After all battle instinct also matters. The point is that... more »

I do think that the best bet here is that this is a dog-wolf hybrid. We have ample variation among our dog breeds to supply the rest and it does show us how breeding with wolves can produce a whole palette of oddities that can then be bred up into unique breeds of near wolves. I think we already knew that but had never wanted to do this. It also informs us that those oddities out there, or some of them could well be coyote or wolf-dog hybrids. This can produce a whole slew of variations not easily recognized. After a century and a half, there has been ample opportunity and... more »

Climate Alarmists are notorious for making claims that simply aren’t supported by the facts. They, in turn, accuse “deniers” of using non-peer reviewed research, opinions of a relatively few “skeptics,” and mock them for being anti-science flat-earthers. Problem is, there are simply too many datasets for them to “adjust” to make the facts fit their … Continue reading "How Do You Know Climate Alarmists are Lying? Their Lips are Moving Revisited"

*"Sonnets to Orpheus, Part One, IV"* "You who let yourselves feel: enter the breathing that is more than your own. Let it brush your cheeks as it divides and rejoins beside you. Blessed ones, whole ones, you where the heart begins: You are the bow that shoots the arrows and you are the target. Fear not the pain. Let its weight fall back into the earth; for heavy are the mountains, heavy the seas. The trees you planted in childhood have grown too heavy. You cannot bring them along. Give yourselves to the air, to what you cannot hold." - Rainer Maria Rilke

A New Study Says a War with North Korea Could Be Hell (And Start a U.S.-China War)

Michael Peck at The National Interest - 1 day ago
*Michael Peck* *Security, Asia* And, of course, millions would die. If war erupts with North Korea, then the U.S. military will have problems, according to a series of wargames conducted by the RAND Corporation. Invading North Korea to capture or destroy Kim Jong-un’s nuclear arsenal, or to knock out artillery batteries threatening Seoul, would overstretch and deplete American and South Korean forces. More ominously, this could also trigger Chinese military intervention. RAND focused on the ability of the U.S. military—and especially the U.S. Army, which sponsored the research—... more »

But who the top candidate will be facing in November hasn't been called in 11 districts, some inconsequential and some *extremely* consequential.
