Section Three Action Items
We are fast approaching the first anniversary of the Capitol riot. In that connection, let me suggest two areas that are ripe for action on the application Section Three of the 14th Amendment to that violence. First, the House January 6th Committee should consider the issue. At this point, the Committee is still gathering facts. Media reports indicate that the Committee is also looking at legislative proposals. (One, for example, is a reform of the Electoral Count Act.) If those reports are true, then Section Three action should also be on the table. At a minimum, a House Committe... read more

Ajamu Baraka on US Ethiopian Policy
It's a very interesting environment, and it's interesting that you connect up the issue of media, CNN, for example, and Facebook. That's a very important and interesting kind of connection. Why? Oh, I think we forget that Facebook is supposed to be merely a platform for the exchange of information and ideas. But there's tremendous pressure on Facebook to, in fact, operate as a publisher by deciding what content is appropriate for users to share and what content is inappropriate. France Has A Nuclear Habit It Just Cannot Kick
On July 28, French President Emmanuel Macron landed in Tahiti and said that France owed a “debt” to French Polynesia. These tests were conducted between 1966 and 1996. Macron did not apologize for the environmental and human damage caused by these tests. Talk about condescension and contempt! Bigotry on display
One of the most mind-boggling results of Tuesday's elections in Virginia and elsewhere, in which left-wing candidates did not fare well, has been the reaction of the progressive ultra-liberal left to their loss. Fifty Years Since the End of Bretton Woods
On August 15th, 1971, the then-president of the United States, Richard Nixon, made an eighteen-minute speech to the country whose effects impacted the world. THE OTHERIZATION RULES: Their prudishness now cast aside!
*FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2021* *Their racism brought center stage: *According to literary experts, we liberals have always been willing to generalize about The Others, often in mocking tones. In recent years, we at this site have gone all the way back to sainted Thoreau for a possible example of this tribal predisposition. Eggs Earlier In Life Will Mean Fewer Egg Allergies
In response to increases in allergies, and then paralyzing schools and businesses because many parents conflate any allergic reaction with anaphylaxis, in 2017 allergists and pediatricians began recommending that parents start to introduce peanut product around the time their child begins solid foods to prevent peanut allergy. OSHA Requires Vaccines or Testing For Employees of Large Employers
OSHA has issued an emergency temporary standard to address COVID in the workplace. This standard is in addition to the previously-issued guidelines on mitigating COVID. The emergency standard applies only to workplaces with 100 or more employees, whereas the guidelines apply to all employers. However, the standard is mandatory and the guidlines are just recommendations for best practices. A summary of the standard is here. *When does it start*: I keep seeing articles saying the standard doesn't start until January 4, but I believe this is only partially correct. It says this abou... read more
THE MEDIA: REPUBLICANS CAN WIN BY NOT SEEMING EXTREMIST! EXTREMISTS: NOT SO FAST!
The media believes that the Republican Party has found a formula to win the midterm elections in 2022, and the presidential election in 2024: run candidates like Glenn Youngkin who can appeal to suburban swing voters without alienating the right-wing base. But there's just one problem: the GOP's candidate pool. Consider the party's likely candidate for governor in Arizona. Kari Lake, the Arizona gubernatorial candidate recently endorsed by former President Donald Trump, has embraced fringe far-right figures in her campaign events, including publicly thanking a Nazi sympathizer for ... read more

Biden set to double down on unpopular mandates?
Fox Business: The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) says it is "seeking comment" about whether businesses with fewer than 100 employees should be subject to the COVID-19 vaccine and testing mandate it is implementing on big businesses. OSHA's requirement will force businesses with more than 100 employees to mandate vaccines or else their employees will need to wear masks and be tested for COVID-19 weekly. It will go into effect Jan. 4. ... It is a policy that is already spurring unemployment across the country. read more

Woke policies costly to Democrats
A.J. Kaufman: James Carville believes too much “left-wing nonsense and claptrap” is why his party failed so often in Tuesday’s elections, especially in Virginia. When asked Wednesday how Terry McAuliffe lost to Glenn Youngkin in a state that President Joe Biden won by over 10 points a year earlier, the long-time Democrat strategist told *PBS NewsHour* that it was “stupid wokeness” and the overall agenda pushed by progressives. “What went wrong is stupid wokeness. Don’t just look at Virginia and New Jersey. Look at Long Island, Buffalo, look at Minneapolis, even look at Seattle, ... read more

Pennsylvania also a warning to Democrats
Salena Zito: Voters in the Keystone State, as in Virginia, took Tuesday's election as an opportunity to rebut Democrats' overreach. Driven by the loudest voices in their national party toward issues of social justice, "intersectionality," and "climate justice," Democrats suffered for ignoring everyday issues such as inflation, crime, and education. With mail ballots still pending, Republicans are poised to sweep all four of Pennsylvania's statewide judicial elections. They also made gains in municipal races. In the collar counties surrounding Philadelphia, voters echoed the same... read more
