The Houthis Might be Using North Korean Missiles
*David Axe* *North Korean Missiles, Asia* North Korean missiles may very well have found their way across Asia. *Here's What You Need to Remember: *The Houthis inherited from the defunct Yemeni military a large number of Soviet-exported Scuds as well as North Korean-made Scuds called “Hwasong-6s.” It’s possible the missile strikes that badly damaged a key Saudi oil facility on Sept. 14, 2019 involved far-flying drones firing small, guided munitions. Yemen's Houthi rebels, who have been at war with a Saudi-Emirati coalition since 2015, claimed responsibility for the coordinated a... read more
New Barrier Tech
I have been waiting decades for a company to plausibly solve this exact problem. Right away it means that paper based closures compete directly in fluid containment. All those plastic milk jugs are not so neat anymore. So yes i am paying attention. Let us hope it does not take decades for the technology to gain market penetration. I saw this happen with thin plastic lined tin cans. I saw the first examples back in the sixties in Ontario for peaches. I was clearly superipor to a metal surface. Nothing happened until around twenty some years ago and it is now the standard. ... read more
What drives roots’ decomposition and carbon storage in grassland soils?
This is at least a start. The big takehome is that you want to encourage native plants as your pasture forage. Microbial preference likely contributed to their self selection as native forage. This field shows us a likely layout for a working silvopasture. essentially it shows us a missing row from an orchard configuration. This suggersts that it works well enough but the field looks like it got grazed far too tight. Proper rotational grazing keeps a deep cover of ample broken grass which feeds the earth worms. Those same earthworms likely reduce dying root material as well.... read more
Using CRISPR Technology, Scientists Plan to Grow a More Durable Strawberry
It is obvious that the world of plant genetics has been wonderfully sped up. Of course, the straweberry is very much the low hanging fruit here. What is missing in this to do list is strong flavor enhancement. Most fruit hits the market in a partially unripe state and does not get a lot better in the container like some fruit. We need to do better, not least because I have tasted way better. A superbly flavoured strawberry able to last on the shelf is needed. I once tasted a wild strawberry that was pencil thin and an inch long, obviously untouched by frost. It packed as mu... read more

The Fake ‘Military coup’ In Sudan
The United States, which lost the war in Syria, was forced to leave the country under Russian protection. It is now pursuing its war against state institutions in the Horn of Africa. They have encouraged rivalries among Sudanese tribes and are trying to pass off the military’s dismissal of civilian ministers as a "military coup". In reality, they did not overthrow the Prime Minister, but tried to preserve the unity of what remains of the country after the secession of South Sudan. read more

Explosion of athletes' cardiovascular episodes is way above 5 sigma now
There are lots of people who have been trained to repeat the incredible lies about the safety of the Covid vaccines. These Russian Weapons Are Not Nuclear But They Are Destructive
*Sebastien Roblin* *TOS-1 Buratino, Eurasia* To put it concisely, these are amongst the most devastating explosive weapons short of tactical nuclear weapons. *Here's What You Need to Remember: *Are weapons deploying fuel-air explosives munitions inherently inhumane? While there is a debate to be had whether one manner of killing and harming human beings in war is inherently more unacceptable than another and should be banned, the more proximate concern with heavier FAE weapons that create very large blasts is that they are inherently indiscriminate. Russia's Only Aircraft Carrier Admiral Kuznetsov is Just not Good
*David Axe* *Admiral Kuznetsov, Europe* “Actual aircrafts visit this ship pretty rarely.” *Here's What You Need to Remember: *Since her launch, the 55,000-ton, fossil-fuel-powered flattop has managed just four frontline deployments—all of them to the Mediterranean, and all of them just a few months in duration. Imposing, flexible, able to sail fast and launch devastating air strikes at long range, aircraft carriers are the ultimate expression of national power. Destroying a U.S. Aircraft Carrier is no Easy Feat
*David Axe* *Aircraft Carriers, World* Sinking a carrier is easier said than done. *Here's What You Need to Remember*: To even try to sink an American flattop, you first must hit it. That's not easy, either. No carrier sails without an air wing with as many as 50 fighter aircraft plus several escorting destroyers, cruisers and submarines. Not talking about Sir David Amess
I was watching a fascinating YouTube video the other day - an UnHerd interview with Ayaan Hirsi Ali about how 'wokeness is a gift to Islamism. It began with presenter Freddie Sayers recalling the murder of Sir David Amess MP on 15 October before saying: Have you noticed how it's barely talked about already? It seems strange that after such a momentous event it would be passed over so quickly. Now part of it is to do with the suspect, Ali Harbi Ali, having been charged so the media outlets are understandably wary about interfering with an ongoing court process. ''The line between total impartiality and comment has blurred almost beyond repair at BBC News.''
These Letters to the Editor in yesterday's *Times* are quite something and worth quoting in full: Sir, In the BBC that I joined in 1962 there was no question of establishing a commission on impartiality: impartiality was in its lifeblood. Some of us younger reporters at the time believed that it was promoted to the point of blandness. The two sides of an argument would be presented alongside each other, timed equally by the stopwatch, and the reporter would be invited to conclude with some such inanity as “only time will tell”. What an age ago that seems. Parts of the output are no... read more

This drew a rebuke from former *Newsnight* political editor Michael Crick who tweeted: *Newsnight *has twice just called the Paterson affair a “lobbying scandal”.
